Isn’t that like saying SF is shit just cuz you played SF: The Movie?

If he is gonna criticize a whole genre, he must be ready to have a more ample margin of judgement.

The entirety of DC movies have been ass beside WM. Majority of Marvel movies are trash. Think his statement has a lot of weight.

I respect Scorcese, but ain’t no way he finna tell me TDK Trilogy, The Boys, Joker aren’t cinema just because they are superhero movies. Im sure im forgetting some other shit

However he is right about the theme park comparisons, part of the appeal is the experience of seeing these larger than live event movies with friends, thats as much a part of it as the movie itself. Sometimes that can make a shit movie more enjoyable than it actually is

One of these things is not like the other.

Which would that be?

Well if I was “being real” () I’d say the worst film was “The Incredible Hulk” and I’d give that a 3/5. I’ve never thought I wasted my money after watching a Marvel film. I damn sure didn’t think any of them were “hot shit.”

Wanna argue about it?

Honestly labeling an entire genre as shit just shows elitist leanings. That is like the rules some film awards have that day they won’t play Netflix original films due to their limited to non existent theater runs. Or all gangster films are of the same caliber.

What’s there to argue about when you sportin’ a shit opinion like that? You can like and enjoy bad things, don’t stop it from being shit. :upside_down_face:

This is what Scorsese said…

In a recent interview in Empire, the Oscar-winning legend said of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, “I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

For most comic book movies…I agree with him.

That is why I say Scorcese can eat a dick.
Dude been a elitist prick for quite some time just because he gained some fame, fortune, and notoriety and he decides to look down on popular fiction because “too low brow” for him.

Keep in mind alot of what scholars claim is classical works of literature was nothing more than cheap popular stories in their days, Charles Dickens sold his stories piecemeal to penny magazines, and William Shakespeare was considered gutter trash by most aristocrats in his time, and there people moving to ban theater until Queen Elizabeth I started to become a patron.

Nah a shit opinion is thinking your personal viewpoint is some undeniable fact. Have several seats sir. :owl:

Scorcese is right though. MCU movies are wild, exciting rides. Movies based on fucking comic book heroes, lol. And they’re AWESOME!

I would use for Marvel the term movie. Cinema comes off as something more designed for awards and accolades. Maybe that’s the best way to interpret his statement. In that case I would agree with him. It does make him sound like an elitist dick but…the guy does have the experience and awards to back it up…

Either way watch what you want and stop caring what some old man in Hollywood says.

It just seems bonkers that directors with tons of accolades like Cameron and Scorsese are settling with firing shots at the MCU as of late. Like yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the timing just makes them sound petty and bitter.

Or that the Incredible Hulk was a 3/5. Lmao bet Thor Dark Workd was a hot 3.5 or 4 out of 5 to you going by that previous rating.

some people watch movies for entertainment. he should realize not every movie is trying be deep or moving, some people just want to turn off and enjoy the ride or have a good laugh.

I think that’s exactly his point about Marvel movies. They’re great for entertainment (hence the analogy to a theme park ride), but shallow in the sense of traditional cinema. I don’t see anything wrong, or even insulting, with what he said. He’s just not into them.

I can’t respect a blanket statement on a whole genre. If you think Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a “theme park” ride you have terrible taste. I dislike musicals but I’m not going say musicals are terrible. A couple of my favorite movies are essentially musicals. South Park Bigger Longer & Uncut has them constantly break out into song and I love that film. Same thing for Team America World Police, which has something else that isn’t my cup of tea. Puppets. Everything should be judged on it’s own merits.

It happens every few years. Previously their targets were action movies. I saw some comment saying these guys aren’t jealous… They are. They wanna be respected for their art and known as fucking Uber superstars with people kissing their ass.

This isn’t new idea, art in general has always wanted that. They claim to be pure about the art, but it’s clear they wanna have people bowing down to hear their ideas and seeing their art. They want the fame, cash, and respect as an artist.

Are you going to put Winter Soldier up against the likes of Goodfellows, The Departed, or Casino?

Because if you think ANY of the MCU movies come even close to the quality of those films, then YOU have terrible taste.

This I completely agree with. Which is why I don’t take offense to Marty saying super hero movies are like theme park rides. I feel like that’s how they are intended. Just like Star Wars. Which is why I don’t get offended by you shitting all over The Last Jedi. I like those movies for what they are- mindless entertainment.

Edit: Wait a minute- you already KNOW I have terrible taste!
