Marvel Comics Thread

Ending of messiah complex was pretty good. I went from hating the new xmen when they book 1st started to really enjoying it, its one of the better books.

I also finally got around to reading ultimates 3/1…trash =(

oh ure gonna love the second issue for sure then…even better than the first

without being sarcastic though, although this issue managed to be worse than the first one, the art is cleaner looking…sole redeeming factor.

did you get the same feeling as i did and when you finished it you just felt like you watched a commercial for a crappy daytime drama?

Design-wise I prefer his old design over NEW SKOUL UDON look.
Are there any other books for Taskmaster than the one UDON worked on?

…and sorry if I should’ve asked this in the other thread, but what are some good Marvel TPB and G. Novels?
I already have IronMan: Extremis, and will try to get the 2 DP books, but need some good recommendations.

pretty much, As much respect as i have for the ultimates both 1&2, 3 crushed that in one book. When i saw the cover i was like oh man this is gonna be sweet! ugh… Hopefully the other ultimates books havent fell off like that. I’ll be trying to catch up today…

Human, ultimate power, ultimate iron man, FF and X-men better not disappoint! (altho the UXM tends to do that anyway)

ultimate power is made of pure fail. i need to read ultimate iron man. ultimate human is not too bad but only one issue has been released

Question- How good are the Marvel Mangaverse series?

Looks like the conclusion to Astonishing x-men is gonna need one more issue (Giant Size Astonishing X-men). Wasn’t expecting that, but I’m glad. Whedon and Cassaday had a great run and I wish they could stay on for longer.

Messiah complex was a waste of my money.

They make a great team. Yet personally I hate delays. I’m talking about freaking month long delays. Kills the momentum of the story imo.

^ Messiah complex was top notch imo. One great run, its made even better if you follow all the x books.

The artwork is nice on the vast majority of books (Udon’s first comic ever was the Avengers Mangaverse book BTW) however the stories are nothing like manga, things move and develop way too fast. I think even faster than Marvel’s regular comics. Most of the stories have very limited runs so that may be why. It always felt to me like they were trying to get in too much story into one issue. I’m sure manga varies and I haven’t read every kind of manga out there and probably never will but I felt Marvel kind of missed the mark doing this, especially if you compare to Ameri-manga like Gold Diggers, Ninja High School, Usagi Yojimbo, etc.

When the Marvel Mangaverse started they dropped 30 issues in one month. So it was one big story really, however most of the books focused on one team or another, Marvel’s usual “See what people like and what sticks” attitude. If the stories were more interconnected than they wound up being, like say I dunno, Messiah Complex - Marvel might of pulled off the manga thing right out of the gate, but I don’t think that was the case IMHO.

After that month I really can’t say much because I was out of it, still whenever I came a cross a Spider-Man Mangaverse story in things like Spider-Man Family it was the same type of speedy story telling which is still an odd thing that you don’t really see in manga. Even One Shot manga stories have much more of a slower pace.

If you get the chance see if you can find the Spider-Man manga by Ryoichi Ikegami of Crying Freeman and Mai the Psychic Gir fame. A big reason why he’s such a realistic artist is because he started out imitating Marvel’s style for Spider-Man, his other works are really great. I’m not too sure if there are TPBs for his Spider-Man manga in English but it’s available in single issues. Sadly Marvel never finished translating the entire run because the manga had gotten way too adult / borderline x-rated and they didn’t want Spidey (even if it was a Japanese Spidey) to go to some of the places the story went.

Del Ray is working on a shojo (girls comic) manga for X-Men and a shonen (boys comic) manga for Wolverine so there’s upcoming stuff to check out too.

The Spider-Man Family comics reprint the Spider-Man J manga from Japan. It’s really kid friendly though, like for the Pokemon crowd. Not really my cup of tea but you can check it out if you are curious.

I’ll avoid that X-Men shojo manga like the plauge but give the Spiderman one a read.

Anyway I recently finished reading M. Complex and I’d like to ask a few questions-
1- Why did Bishop betray the X-Men? Is the future Layla went to the same as the one Apocalypse conquers?
2- Is Xavier dead or will he revived in a cross over along with Magneto?
3- Was the reason Cyclops gave the child to Cable because he didn’t want to ‘decide the child’s fate’?
4- Anyone got any speculations onto which future Cable went to?

…and just for the heck of it- How the heck did Cable come back to life after the attack on Providence?

1 Seems he was the traitor all along, since his arrival.

2 If you actually flip to the end of the comic they actually tell you that he’ll be in the preview for upcoming comics. As soon as next month it seems…

3 Kinda sorta, More like he doesn’t want any one group to “influence” or have control of the baby. I wonder if the baby is Jean or Rachel… It seems like they are hinting at it.

4 Not sure which future cable is off too…

? …I thought Rachel was still alive?
…also about Bishop being the traitor, I wonder if this occurred due to the aftermath of House of M? Maybe Wanda’s alteration caused Bishop’s future which Layla visited to somehow exist.

Rachel is alive, she’s with the new Starjammers. The baby could be how she gets born into this reality somehow / someway.

Not too sure that’s gonna happen though. Would bring up lots of sci-fi arguments of ‘two bodies can’t occupy the same exact space/timeline’ even if Marvel never truly follows that one. Characters meeting possible future versions of themselves happens now and again. Hulk / The Maestro comes to mind.

I would lean against Rachel, but let’s face it logic’s out the window with this one

only reason why i say that i’m kind of skeptical of it being her is because there was a scene during House of M when her and Psylocke are at the nexus of realities, and it shows every different version of psylocke through the different/alternate universes, yet rachel only existed in one. It might be a little far fetched for her to be in the same reality twice, and to have never existed in any other one.

Like i said though who knows though!

Man i really would like to see how the characters from the Marvel U are gonna react to the new Captain America especially the New Avengers.

I wonder if he’ll have a hand in the Secret Invasion arc.

^ I missed what happpen with Cap, The couple of months whee he was brought back i kinda stop following it. (I was disgusted with the way he died)

So who’s this new cap? And how did they find or gettem?

Bucky Barnes is the new Captain America. Steve left Iron Man a letter telling him if he was killed, he wanted Bucky brought into the fold and to give him the shield. Bucky eventually fell into Iron Man’s lap while trying to get vengance for Cap’s death, but instead he read Steve’s last wishes.

Or something like that.

Anyway, I don’t know when the new Cap will interface with the rest of the Marvel Uni. Probably during Secret Invasion. I’m more concerned about what the situation is regarding Spider-Man and the New Avengers since One More Bullshit.

…Is anyone reading Brand New Bullshit? Is it decent? Sano?

pfft…don’t get me started on that bullshit.

Comic Book Resource just did a fan Q&A with Joe Quesada on the OMD/BND arc and man Joe is so full of it. He can’t give a straight answer to save his life.

It seriously seems as though they didn’t think things through with how this BND storyline was gonna affect his other appearances in the New Avengers.
