Marvel Comics Thread

I liked House of M and at least it had a decent fallout.

Civil War ended up being pointless as Cap came back to life pretty soon and everyone just made up with each other.

Marvels cosmic stuff is by far their best though as they don’t have to worry about the effect the stories will have on Spider-Man/Avengers/X-Men. That’s why Annihilation and everything following it have been so good.

Cap didn’t actually die in Civil War - the main series - and he was dead for about a year and a half or so. Winter Soldier filled his shoes in the meantime so it also built up Bucky Cap. Everyone didn’t make up fully until after Secret Invasion and then Siege, when the Heroic Age started. So two years and tons of comics.

Civil War is definitely the most well received of recent Marvel events. Lots of people keep asking for a Pixar Civil War movie (they’ll never do it though because a lot of their animators are lame and think CGI toons can’t work if the characters don’t have smooth surfaces or look simplistic) and comparitively nothing else.

Thanks to Hurricane Sandy it looks like the subways won’t be working for quite some time. I doubt I’ll be able to pick up my comics this week. Otherwise I’m okay, no damage.

Ah well I know what the Marvel Universe is really doing this week. Helping to clean up my city lol!

Glad to hear you’re doing well Sano.

Hey what if its not a hurricane? Didn’t you see that Fantasic Four movie? It’s probably GALACTUS!! O_O

Gillen talks about Young Avengers in January.

Looks like I’ll be putting that on my pull list. Gillen is that dude.

Singer will direct X-Men Days of Future Past instead of Vaughn!

BTW in case you haven’t heard Disney is about to acquire Lucasfilm and they plan to make Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015. Lucas will just be a creative consultant on the film.

It makes me wonder if Dark Horse will lose the Star Wars comic rights and if those will go back to Marvel.

I just want to see Dani again lol!

So I read all the Captain Marvel issues and the only thing I don’t like is the drastic change in the art. Issues 1-3/4 are great, then it takes this horrible dip for whatever reason. Everything else about it is pretty solid. I also liked the time travel story as a way to not only explain the her origin to those somewhat new to the character like myself, but also to give an awesome change of scenery compared to modern day USA.

Yeah, the art was so great the first issues, and now–honestly, I love the art now, too, but you definitely can tell what was better. I’m also loving the time travel aspect of it. Being handled really well. I read through Ms Marvel’s first run as a solo character a few years ago, so I still have a rough idea of where she came from. I’ll be looking forward to comparing it to the new issue when I get my hands on it today.

Damn the art changed eh…still haven’t got around to any issues post issue 4 but I’m not liking what I’m hearing.

The art chage sucked pretty bad, new art isn’t bad but man is it a major drop.

Fuck just realized how small my Marvel pull list has been lately. Only things i’ve been picking up are Spidey, Ms. Marvel, X-Force, and JitM. mainly pulling independants now.

Weakling…behold my marvel collection:

X-men
Uncanny X-men
Wolverine & The X-men
X-Force
X-factor
The Amazing Spiderman
Avenging Spiderman
Scarlet Spiderman
Venom
Uncanny Avengers
Avengers
New Avengers
Secret Avengers
Avengers Academy
The Fantastic 4
The Incredible Hulk
Gambit
Ms.Marvel
The Defenders
Red She-Hulk

Most of these books are getting replaced anyways but my DC collection is even bigger. I was a marvel guy at first but now I’m more of a DC dude.

same though my DC pull list is still pretty small compared to how it used to be.

I wanted to be a very"minor collector"but since I started taking breaks from games and anime I wanted to give a new medium a chance. On the DC side I have like 30+ books and while it is expensive from week to week purchases I can I enjoy roughly 95% of my books. I’ve only dropped like maybe 5 so far and with marvel NOW I have new material to sort through.

I have acquired a full collection of Cable solo stuff. So, what’s good and what’s not? (I’ve already read all of Soldier-X before and enjoyed it.)

Joe Casey’s run is one of the best Marvel runs on any series. He did issues 51-70, mostly with Ladronn. Really amazing superhero comics.

So I read through the latest Captain Marvel. Excellent way to end that first arc. It’s real nice when a writer comes along, respects the history of the character, and puts out a high quality story that’s a good jumping on point, and a good continuing set up for the character. I have high hopes for this book.

Picked up the last issue of Thor, too, and it was nice. Fraction on Thor has been interesting. Don’t think there was anything that was super high end during his run, but the stories were always fun reads. Looking forward to see what Aaron has in store.

Avenging Spider-Man was silly. I like silly, so I liked his team up with Thing.

And now Bendis is going to ruin of that greatness. Why the fuck do we need Iron Man?

Update - Some subways can go to the city in a limited capacity but it’s not hassle free. I have to go uptown for comic book stores, so basically staying home.

My job is by Seaport (well it’s pretty much where Spider-Man’s Horizon Labs would be) and the first floor and all of the basement levels were basically destroyed along with tons of files and records. I work on the 24th floor and sometimes on the lowest level so the loss of files is something I’ll have to deal with.

My job has been closed all week and it’s rumored that we won’t reopen until Thursday. That’s probably when I’ll pick up my comics.

Otherwise I’m okay. Stuck in my hometown and there’s nothing to do here except go to the movies. At least I got to see Wreck-It Ralph. It’s awesome!

Ha sorry about my cabin fever rant. ^_^;

I guess my monthly Marvel books now are like -

Amazing Spider-Man - Will continue even after Marvel Now. I believe in Slott!

Wolverine and the X-Men

Avengers - Will continue. HIIIIKMAAAN!

New Avengers - See above.

Fantastic Four - Dropped now that Hickman’s gone. Not a fan of Fraction on teams.

FF - Big X-Statix fan so I will give it a chance.

Uncanny X-Force - Psylocke and Spiral on the same team hell yeah!

Young Avengers - Love Heinberg’s work on this series and the Point One issue turned me off of Gillen’s take. But I will give it a shot.

That’s about it. Couldn’t hang with Captain Marvel’s artwork so I was out. The story was slow for my tastes too, but that’s just me.

My DC books have boiled down to Batman, Batman Inc. and Batman and Robin. Not a fan of the DC Reboot. I hope Marvel Now is pound for pound a lot better.

Wow not being able to talk about books I read this week. Going through withdrawal. I got the shakes!

Glad you’re safe Sano. Play it smart, pray if you’re into that kinda thing, and hopefully you’ll get through it okay.

Hickman’s Avengers gon’ be so tight.
