New cap arc, OH BRU, why must you toy with my emotions with great story telling!

Astonishing X-Men is growing on me more and more. Love the dialog. Really indifferent about the Northstar / Kyle wedding thing but good for Marjorie Liu that she’s getting a lot of props for it. Been a fan of hers since X-23 like most of you know already.

Preview for the Amazing Spider-Man Annual coming out next week. A world without Spider-Man. Page 6 is funny lol!

Yeah the wedding isn’t a big deal to me, but I really like the book and think Liu is a great writer, I just hope this doesn’t distract to much from the story she is telling.

Was X-23 that good of a read? I used to see it all the time but never thought anything about it, and noone at my local store read it so I never touched it.

I liked it especially when Sana Takeda did the art.

Sooo Eddie Brock is bonded with Toxin now? What the hell happened to him hunting down and killing symbiots while being a cliche jesus freak? I only pic up newer comics once in a while so I don’t get to keep up to date like I used to.

On the plus side I really do like Flash Thompson as the new Venom. interesting design and character and the best aspect of all, it’s NOT Mac Gargan!
Seriously, Mac was the worst venom ever. I just couldn’t get into it.

You should have read Warren Ellis and Mike Deodato’s Thunderbolts, bub.

The Sinister Spider-Man mini was the best Mac story ever.

And Eddie is bonded to Toxin becaus Crimemaster forced Toxin to bond to him and is controlling him.

I liked the Idea of the Thunderbolts when they first showed up, it was an interesting concept but I didn’t care for it in the long run. As the roster and writers changed my interest in it became even less. Seriously, Speedball going all emo and taking the name of what was once a bad ass character (though eventually they raped her story, Yay marvel!) and the insignificant scorpion becoming the worst looking Venom design I’ve ever seen. Nothing short of a lobotomy would get me to like Mac Gargan Venom. But these are just my opinions on it. If you like it, more power to ya. I gave it a chance and it just wasn’t for me.

I see, it wasn’t a willing choice then. So what became of Patrick?

I liked the Ellis and Deodato Venom because they portrayed him the way I think he should always be: an unhinged, unstable monster. Just a danger to everyone around him. It was like Ellis and Deodato gave Venom his balls back. So many comics prior to that Thunderbolts story featured a neutered Venom.

According to Remender Blackheart beat Patrick to death when he took Toxin in that Venom story where he teamed up wtih Rulk, X-23, and the female Ghost Rider. Who is like one of the worse characters introduced in a decade, I don’t think I’ve read a chaarcter so universally hated.

Just saw this and have to say Adi Granov has to be my favorite current Marvel cover artist:

I know nothing of the female ghost rider other than she exists. I really want to get my hands on all the issues of this new Venom series so I can read the whole story. As I have no prior knowledge please enlighten me as to why the female ghost rider is so loathed.

Also, Damn that Avengers pic makes me even more eager. Going see it on Sunday.

Is there any female version of any superhero who isn’t loathed? Outside of like, maybe She-Hulk or Batgirl/Batwoman…

I’m surprised Marvel isn’t calling this new one She-Rider or something.

Lets see if I can name some of the more recent “female versions” of marvel characters: , Hawkeye (female version from the Young Avengers), Rescue (Pepper Pots in her own Iron Man suit), Black Panther (T’Challa’s daughter), Ghost-Rider (female version), the upcoming Capitan Marvel (Carol Danvers aka Ms. Marvel)…

I think that’s it unless other can chime in but yeah, the female versions of characters don’t last long due to a quick decline in readership.

I was talking to Tizoc about this the other day. I thought it was a temporary four issue thing…then she stuck around…and stuck around. She had like no story and was highly uninteresting, ruining what could have been a GREAT Ghost Rider run and honestly, he deserves another good and long series. I’m a big fan, own most if not all of his Volume 1 and 2 stuff and dislike not being able to read about him on a regular basis.

What’s so fucking hard about keeping Blaze the Ghost Rider and doing cool shit?

The thing about female Ghost Rider was that the author wrote a great Johnny Blaze. It was funny, violent, didn’t bother readers with tons of continuity but acknowledged enough back story for long time fans. It tied in with Fear Itself in a way that you didn’t have to read Fear Itself. Toss in great artwork and we finally had the perfect Ghost Rider book.

And them female Ghost Rider came along.

All of a sudden, the comedy, violence, nods to past stories, being rooted strongly into the MU, everything besides the artwork went away pretty much in ONE ISSUE.

To be fair the writer obviously wanted to differentiate this Ghost Rider with the past Ghost Rider. It was all just too much too soon. What was a fun MU book quickly became a dark and serious tale.

They had the audience but then they lost them. It wasn’t because Ghost Rider gained breasts. It was because Ghost Rider lost a sense of humor all because the writer wanted to go against everything that was working for him in the same book.

A risky move and I usually applaud stunts like that. It just didn’t work this time.

Read all the issues of the newest Ghost Rider at a Barnes & Noble and was upset I wasted time on it. What were the names of the ones you all are referring to before the latest volume. Looking on Amazon, all I could find the Danny Ketch Omnibus (bleh)

I see now why she’s hated. more a case of bad timing than bad character. I hate it when comics take a turn from fun to serious. serious comics have their place but if the characters are all one dimensional no one wants to read it. Some of the best stories are when heroes are just being normal people, no fighting enemies or any intense stuff just experiencing life in all it’s aspects.Yes Johnny Storm is entertaining fighting skrulls, he’s even more entertaining just hanging out with Peter Parker or using him as an excuse to get out of a date with someone annoying.
