Newsarama.com : Director Vinton Heuck On AVENGERS: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES

The Nightcrawler stuff that Austen wrote was definitely the best Nightcrawler stuff that anyone’s ever written. Definitely his finest hour. It sucks that they killed him. I hope Austen gets to come back and do some more work with the X-Men. If anyone has the writing chops to resurrect Kurt Wagner in a powerful and meaningful manner, it’s definitely gotta be Austen, a skilled writer who has clearly demonstrated his love for the character with those memorable storylines.

Another Austen story that was super good was that arc where he “remixed” Romeo & Juliet… “She Lies with Angels” was the title, I think. I still don’t think anyone could actually top Shakespeare, but Chuck Austen has come the closest out of all the writers I’ve ever read in my whole life. The way Austen really made us feel for the mutant couple being hated and feared truly added another dimension to the classic romance. When the hillbilly rednecks waged a battle against the mutants, I was truly in doubt that the X-Men could prevail because of the staggering odds they faced. Those rednecks were armed with Sentinel-tech exosuits! That was crazy! It was such a clever way to update and modernize an otherwise timeless classic.

I kept hoping that the romance would turn out happily, but Austen blew away my expectations by having it end in a way I did not forsee. I almost cried at the end of that one. Probably the best romance I’ve ever read in comics, right up there with Blankets, Jesse and Tulip from Preacher, and the Wesley/Dian romance in Sandman Mystery Theatre.

It was also great what Austen did with Havok and that nurse. I’m still bitter that the subsequent writers made Havok get back together with Polaris. Nurse Annie is Havok’s one true love, I don’t care what anyone else says. Hopefully Austen can come back to X-Men someday and fix this.

Last i heard Austen has written off monthlies (for now). He seems to prefer the process of creating his adult baseball comic. Considering all the hate he got for his work @ Marvel and DC, it is a little understandable.

I’ve never been able to find his baseball comic, but I’ve heard only good things about it from fans of erotic comics. I heard that the writing was more intricate than anyone has a right to expect from a porno comic, and that it’s particularly titillating.

I’ve never read his Worldwatch comic, either. That was the one where he said the high concept was, “The Authority, but with more sex.” That sounds pretty awesome! I mean, I got bored of The Authority really fast because they never showed enough whenever Jack Hawksmoor and the Engineer had sex, or when Swift got it on with Grunge from Gen13. Clearly the limitations that DC had placed on WildStorm at the time hurt the series.

I remember when Worldwatch was announced, I was very excited. However, I waited for the trade, only they never made one. Now when I try to track down copies on eBay, they are way too expensive. I mean, we’re talking 20 bucks a pop per issue for these highly prized collectors’ items. I wish I had gotten them when they were fresh. Probably one of my biggest regrets as a comic book fan.

It’s really disheartening to hear that Austen got a lot of hate for his Marvel and DC work. I’d consider him a true master of the craft, just a man full of limitless imagination, but I guess the timing was wrong. He was too many years ahead of the curve. If his X-Men stuff came out today, people would love it.

I never could tell when Zephy was serious or not, but in either case it’s still hilarious to read his posts.

lol true

Anyway, The Trial of Captain America arc is shaping up to be another one of the Bru-classics like Devil in Cell Block D, Winter Soldier and the entire Death of Captain America

Yeah, trial was my jumping back on point and it proved to be a great one.

Yay, now Taskmaster is another good guy who can’t remember his past. We totally don’t have enough of those. Right guys?

I need to start reading more mahvel stuff. Aside from the stuff Sano posted above, are there any other recent series’ I should read?

Captain America
S.H.I.E.L.D
Secret Warriors
Fantastic Four (Hickman’s run)
Thunderbolts (Parker’s run)
Thor (Fraction’s run)
All the Cosmic stuff from Abnett and Laning (highly recomended)

Im about to start reading the Chaos War. Great little comic featuring all the pantheons of Gods from marvel (The God Squad), fucking around on adventures. It was great watching them fuck up other God’s from other planets, during the Secret Invasion.

Also, finally finished reading the Thanos Imperative. Fucking LOVED that series, although the ending wasn’t what I thought it would be.

meh

[details=Spoiler]so basically after all the ‘hype’ over two barely popular characters (Nova and Star-Lord) dying, in the end all they do is scream in Thanos’ face, after he gets pissy cuz Death wouldn’t talk to him AGAIN, while a dead universe seals them up. So now we gotta wait for Thanos to show up again, so that THEY can show up again. Meh.

And I was a little disappointed in Death snubbing Thanos, after all he did (fucking resurrects her). I kinda get that she ignores him just so he will keep proving his love for her, but c’mon, not even a kiss or a thank you or anything?[/details]

I need to read Old Man Logan still…But after Chaos War

About Death, she is always like that to him

Avengers marathon on Disney XD right now, micro-episodes all the way through to the Gamma World two part.

If you are all caught up (Besides the hour special) you can catch Young Justice which is conveniently before Gamma World.

yeah, i know, but after The End, she at least told him she loved him, and after they killed their kid, she admitted feelings for him (which Thanos promptly shot down)

You also have to consider that the Death he resurrected was the one belonging to the Cancerverse. Events and circumstances may not have been the same.

Also, am I the only one enjoying the new Uncanny X-Force? Am I wrong for liking it? People are are a little out of character, sure, but it seems OK.

thx for the suggestions

Anyone know of any marvel characters that have problems with relationships?

Spider-Man and all of his relationships after he got hit with the OMD stick. Hulk and Betty currently but their entire relationship has been rocky, even when they were married.

Luke and Jessica, Cyclops and Emma, Hawkeye and Mockingbird, Mr. Fantastic and Sue seem ‘happy-ish’ as about as far as you can get in comics. Heroic Age and all that jazz.

Secret Avengers was good, once more, not really surprised by that though. I love this new developing story, it seems rather bizarre but it’s drawing me in.

Beast needs more screen time though, although Ant-Man is entertaining me to no end.
