Marvel Comics Thread

Yeah but then again i think the fact that Cyclops kicked him out the X-men and also telling Charles to basically “Go fuck Himself” during the Messiah Complex was good enough.

And then he got shot in the face by Bishop.

Even so, he fucking got a buncha people killed and then made everyone who knew them forget they existed! Just to cover his ass! That’s pretty bad, IMO.

Partial of Marvel’s Solicitations of March 2009

Here a variant of Dark Avengers # 3

^4Play, please fix the URL  Also, most of us figured who he is when we saw that spread of DA vs. NA :), but thanks for linking it.

Ummm don’t some villains do something like that as well, yet we like them a lot more than Xavier?
I’ve never cared about Xavier a lot, but have considered him having done some fucked up stuff in the past. After Messiah CompleX, once he has come to realize the weight of what he had done, he decides to man up, face them and resolve all the BS he has done. He may not be able to fix a lot of things, but that shouldn’t stop him from doing a lot of good things either.

Erm…no?

Ah snap. Well it comes out in the March solicitations:March

Tom Brevoort vs John Byrne on how to fix Marvel

Gah…seems like an outsider vs. insider. I think Byrne should be leading by example, either by starting to write/draw limiteds or serials for whoever or going back to Marvel and working on a title.

What was the Bendis/Kirkland debate that was mentioned?

X-Men 219…were you disappointed Sano?

What happens is that

Spoiler

everything took place in Juggs’ head as he was asleep with his helmet off. Xavier was testing Juggs to see if he’s still going to stay as a good guy or fall to Cytarok’s powers again and become a badguy.

Spiderman Noir #1, for some reason I kinda spoiled the entire issue in this, but know this it is VERY GOOD.

Noir Spidey 1

[details=Spoiler]OK, X-Men Noir used X-Men characters in a Noir settings minus their powers…or at least from what we see in the first issue.
Now Spiderman Noir…let’s take this step-by-step:
Issue begins telling us this story takes place in NYC January 1933, outside the offices of the Daily Bugle building, police officers rush in. They approach J. Jonah Jameson’s office and inform his secretary that they were tipped off about Jameson being shot.
They enter the room to find Jameson on his chair, with a bullet wound, him presumabley dead. Leaning on his table is a man wearing a black trench coat and black mask with a gun in his hand; the cops say he is Spiderman and advance to arrest him. Spidey goes to a window and uses his web shooters to stop one of the cops and escapes.
Turn the clock back 3 weeks ago; Ben Urich begins to tell us a story. He is told by Jameson to go to the Hudson to get photos that’ll make the readers weep, to let them know that life in the US isn’t all cream and peaches as they had thought.
As he is taking photos he notices May Parker rallying the populace and giving a speech about how horrible their lives are, and by ‘they’ I mean the millions that have lost their jobs over the past few years in the US.
Urich notices 3 men; “The Enforcers. Ox, Fancy Dan and Montana. The Goblin’s muscle.” who stop May’s protest and scatter the crowd. As her nephew, Peter Parker tries to stop them, he was assaulted by them and and bruised. As they attempt to attack May, Urich takes a picture of their assault. Dan calls off his boys from attacking Urich, saying that he is ‘Off-limits’.
Urich helps May and Peter back to their home, and Peter mentions his Uncle’s death. Urich says he heard of it and is sorry for their loss. Peter blames the Golbin’s goons for his death, but his Aunt May tells him that there is no proof of that, in addition The Goblin has been attacking most of the places he and his May have been protesting in over the past weeks.
Urich takes some interest in Peter’s flare and decides to take him with him to a bar; The Black Cat. Inside they meet Felicia Hardy, owner of the Cat. Peter and Urich sit down for a round of Whisky. For those wondering if Peter is underage to drink it, read it to find out
Urich and Peter start talking about righteousness and justice and all that. Urich tells him to look around in the Cat. He sees the Mayor of New York getting comfy with a brunette that is “not his wife”, the Chief Detective of the Vice Squad meeting with a man who runs half the brothels in New York, and Adolfus Crane, whom Peter’s uncle held demonstrations to shut down a few of his sweatshops the previous year.
…and then The Golbin enters; Norman Osborn followed by Kraven and Adrian ‘Vulture’ Toomes. Urich explains to Peter that The Goblin freelances requests from people in high places to stop anything they don’t like or makes them look bad, even the most civil of rights that the police would never attempt to stop.
Osborn comes to Urich and Peter’s table and mentions Ben’s death. Peter angered by him, throws his whiskey into Norman’s face. Peter and Urich leave the Cat after this.
Urich decides to enroll Peter to the Bugle and introduces him to Jameson. Jameson explains his desires on the stories he wants to write in the Bugle, a very fine and interesting speech. We then see the two getting various stories on murder, suicide, poverty, etc.
They then go to a diner and talk about Ben’s death, after that, Urich returns to his house. We see him preparing to take what seems to be opium or drugs and it is revealed that he was there witnessing Ben Parker’s murder with The Golbin and his men.[/details]

Man this issue was great, don’t let the first few pages turn you off, cuz after it comes a very neat Noir story. I have not read any Noir stories, besides X-Men, prior to this but I can see this turning out to be a very fun Mini.
…and the art is really good too.

Dark Reign- New Nation, mainly contains previews for future titles that are connected to Dark Reign, but they also include-

Previews

[details=Spoiler]A new Skrull Kill Krew series starting in March! Whether it is a mini or ongoing has yet to be known.
At the end of the NA: Reunion preview…Mockingbird sends a transmission, to whom we are not sure, but maybe she’s trying to contact Nick Fury or perhaps any SHIELD agent that could be able to pick her transmission. It would seem she found something…[/details]

Avengers Initiative 19…wow

[details=Spoiler]Well the Initiatives all over the US are fighting the Skrulls, we even get to see the Great Lakes!
Eventually they all gather to the heroes’ location and help with the fight.
Skrull Dugan is finally killed by Crusader, but alas…he was killed by 3DMan…Crusader disappears in a flash of lighting, his future unkown.[/details]

Good issue, but do not it is NOT drawn by Ramos, the Ramos in this issue is Jay David Ramos who does the colouring.
…but man…shocking issue.

Uncanny X-Men 505

[details=Spoiler]Well Emma starts to question about Logan and Warren’s disappearance after Pixie informs her of Laura’s wounds. Elsewhere Beast and Warren are working on finding more help to solve the mutant dilemma.
Issue ends with Emma contacting Norman that she will meet up with him.[/details]

Thunderbolts 127

[details=Spoiler]Issue involves Moonstone, Bullseye and Venom trying to kill Songbird. Songbird eventually escapes on the Zeus from the Mountain, but it crashes as she is being attack by Venom. Bullseye later catches up on her, and almost kills her, but she is saved by Swordsman. Swordsman tells her that he’ll cover up for her ‘death’ as he destroys the Zeus and Songbird leaves.
Good issue, it also has Moonstone informing Bullseye that Norman’s gonna have them use Avengers’ outfits as part of his new ‘Reign’.
This issue SHOULD take place before that Dark Reign oneshot since Andreas is still alive[/details]

Mighty Avengers 20

[details=Spoiler]Issue begins with a flashback of Pym and Janet exaniming Cap’s body after they thawed it from the ice all those years ago. Cut to Pym, Carol and Simon as they prepare for Janet’s funeral, Pym is taking it hard. As they leave, Carol tells Pym about the events that took place since House of M. where we get single pages showing a basic idea of the stuff that happened.
During the funeral, Hank walks up to the podium asking “How could you do this?” Obviously directed at Tony. Thor appears behind and has his say about how he felt about Janet, and leaves with Hank.
Issue ends with Norman in the Avengers building.

Dunno 'bout you, but the way Thor told Hank that they’ll “mourn together in private” sounds so…wrong.
Other than that decent issue[/details]

DeadPool #5

[details=Spoiler]Oh man this ep. was made of epic hilariousness! Long story short, DP manages to escape from the doc, and kill off both him, his zombies AND Zeke! You don’t mess with the Merc and not pay him up without any consequences!
Gotta love DP’s line: “So…all those guns are full of money?” I so ROFLed at it.
Next issue Tiger Shark![/details]

Ghost Rider #30

[details=Spoiler]Issue begins in Japan where a guy rides his bike to a temple. He finds his master dead and Ketch. Ketch tells him that his master killed himself with a sword rather than tell him the true origins of the Spirit of Vengeance that he is using.
Ketch provokes the guy and he turns into what I believe is Hannya. A short battle ensues, with which Ketch wins and claims the Spirit from the guy.

2 hours later Johnny and co. arrive at the ruined temple. They find Yoshio drained of his Ghost Rider powers, nearly on the brink of insanity or such. Johnny still doesn’t have the will to fight, and the other 2 GRs tell Sara that they will go look for the 2 remaining GRs before Danny does.

Nearby, Ketch along is watching them with a pigeon that Zadkiel is talking to him through. We see what Zadkiel looks like as he assures Danny that he is doing the right. At the same time he is attacking Heaven and easily felling its guards and defenders. Issue ends with a Mr. Kowalski (from Danny’s time as the GR?) in an apartment in Brooklyn, as he gets a Shotgun to go ‘Ghost Rider Hunting’.[/details]

Good comic week.

The Initiative #19

Spoiler

With Crusader and 3D Man splitting time as the series’ de facto lead, it was stunning and saddening, what happened with Crusader.

Can’t believe you guys forgot about X-men:Kingbreaker. Issue was badass.

X-men:KB

[details=Spoiler]

  • Vulcan conquers the Z’Nox pretty easily; the rest of the universe starts to wonder what’s up with the Shi’ar (they don’t appear to have heard any of the more recent news about the civil war).
  • Vulcan is now super-popular with the people; Ka’ardum thinks it’s bad for him to spend all this time tormenting Alex. Deathbird thinks Vulcan can survive his own flaws.
  • Rachel, Lilandra, and Korvus steal the Starjammer back; Lilandra is very insistent on recovering her throne before Universal War III starts.
  • Alex pays another visit to Space Guantanamo, and checks in on how everyone is doing: Raza has killed eight guards by making weapons out of his prosthetics, and now has none; Ch’od is constantly tortured, but is virtually impervious to it and spends his time critiquing the torturers for their lack of art; Polaris has to be drugged constantly because the guards can’t figure out how to shut her powers off (they think she’s a mutant), and the Celestial tech keeps burning out the drugs; Havok has realized that Vulcan is obsessed with making him bow, and so refuses to do so.
  • Vulcan orders all the other criminals at the prison released and sent after Lilandra and co.; Oracle and Nightside are dubious at this.
  • At the end of the issue, it’s revealed that Alex is storing up power from the light that comes into his cell when the door is opened to put food in, and can now generate a few little energy circles.[/details]

John Byrne’s an idiot. He loves himself but hates everything else. He hasn’t made a decent comic book since what, like 1979? And I’m pretty sure he owes most of it to CLAREMONT anyway. And the people on the Byrne forums are mostly idiots, too. It’s hard to believe there are actually people out there who agree with his most of his opinions. I’ve never met a Byrne fan in real life… But I suppose it’s possible I haven’t been to enough conventions.

And his opinions are stupid as well. “No real deaths” and “no fake deaths?” What does that even mean? He doesn’t want people to “write for the trade” but he DOES want people to limit themselves to three issue (or shorter) stories? It doesn’t even seem worth trying to explain the flaw in his logic there.

Brevoort didn’t say anything wrong in his blog post. If anything, he probably got master-baited by Byrne. The old has-been probably feels good about himself that he got a response.

He’s really out of touch.
I’ve heard horror stories of him at conventions.

He must be bitter he didn’t get a cameo in X-Men 3 or something. Who knows?

Thor #12 Preview

I just finished reading Avengers: Initiative. and here are my thoughts

The Initiative

Spoiler

No, no, no, no, no!!! Dammit what the hell! Crusader was probably the coolest hero they had on that book. Issue number 15 or whatever it was when they did his little back story and how he killed his friend, and the change he went through put him up there with some of my fave heroes. I can’t believe he went out like that… Damn you Slott for killing such a cool character!

^
actually

Spoiler

His body seemed to have ‘warped’ at the end of issue, perhaps he ISN’T dead?

The Initiative

Spoiler

yeah well perhaps (regardless of his status) they did that to him b/c they probly dont have any plans for him anytime in the near future bc basically that’s what dying is in comics books and perhaps you can see why i’m bummed about it

Good, Sinster next please.:arazz:
