Marvel 101 (MvC2 ---> Newbies)

ok how do you guys do sent FF combos with A1 instead of a2. like lets say i wanna hit a capcom half life combo. usually when capcom is on the bottom on a2 when i ff i just press all 3 kicks.
(launcher, sj,lp, sj lk, FF with all 3 kicks, lk, hp, SRK rocket punch as corrador comes out,)

its impossibly weird to place your hand like that when capcom is on a1 and i dont think ppl do it like that. how do you guys hit ff combos like that?

This could go to the Sent forum, but ill answer it. instead of calling Capcom while you are performing fast fly, call him at the same time you perform lk. So the combo will look like:

launch, magic series xxx FF, f. lk + A1 (capcom), f+lk xxx SRK rocket punch. .

You can fill in hp instead of the 2nd lk.

I’m not the best Sentinel player but I got his basics down, I’m no Sanford Kelly or Yipes, but I wish I was

You just got to get used to pressing attack button+assist button at the same time (two buttons), it’s real easy. I can do it both ways A1 and A2, it’s good to learn how to do it both ways just in case your characters are switched differently but it’s the easiest on A2 IMO. Don’t get in the habit of hitting all 3 buttons cause Hk might come out instead of Lk.

I’m guessing you’re on a stick? If so this is how I have my hands when I do Lk+A1/A2:
[]Lk+A1 (Thumb and Ring)
[
]Lk+A2 (Thumb and Pinky)
Anyways… here’s a typical easy and basic FF combo that most folks do in game:
[]Launch, sj.Lk, FF sj.Lk+A2, sj.Hp, (A2 hits) Dp Rocket Punch
[
]Launch, sj.Lk, FF sj. Lk+A2, sj.Lk, (A2 hits) Dp Rocket Punch
[]Launch, (slight pause during Super Jump), sj.Lp, FF sj.Lp, Lp Rocket Punch, sj.Lk+A2, sj.Lk (A2 Should hit here), Dp Rocket Punch
Also keep in mind when you do the FF and do Lk+A1/A2 you don’t need to move at all during FF, like pausing putting the stick in neutral for it to come out, it’ll come straight out.

*On the slight pause during the super jump, you gotta be high enough on the character to where like they’re just below you and once you hit them with the Lp, FF Lp, Lp Rocket Punch they’ll be brought up to your height level to where you can just simply hit Lk+A2, Lk (or Hp), Dp Rocket Punch. Deals a LOT of damage since your opponent is getting hit with 2 Rocket Punches.

Yeah you got it right but he really doesn’t need to do the full magic series, just do 1 or 2 hits and then FF combo. But good look on trying to help.

I’m a Magneto player but ever since I moved onto Sentinel I find him more interesting than Magneto. I think it’s more cause he can deal tons of damage with like 3-5 hits plus he got super armor. FF is so goddamn fun, I’m messing around with his unfly now and those are straight beasty!

I play with teams Row and Matrix.

Shout out to all the vets posting up and helping all the new players. Good stuff. Playing on Live and PSN can give you the wrong idea about new players, but to see some of them posting up and asking questions does my heart good. I sounds corny, I know.

We all had to take quite a few beat downs before we could hold our own. No one started out on top and stayed there.

Just to stay on topic, I can confirm that Bman409 is 100% correct. I FF combo with my assists by hitting any normal+assist button at the same time. As for the finger stretching, you’ll get used to it. Of course if you have two good assists on one team (Mags-A and Capcom AAA) it doesn’t really matter. Just combo with the one that’s on A2.

Now, for the IM gods, where can I find some good IM vs character X strats? I can do all the setups and guard breaks fine, but I want to know exactly how to proceed when I actually have to fight them  . I can learn how to A2G fools last.

I wish I could help out on IM but I can’t even do his basic infinite, I dunno what it is but I just can’t get it down. He’s tough to play with IMO since you gotta have very good execution skills with IM. He’s a beast though once you know how to play him, 1 touch kill ftw. It’s funny though how I can’t play with IM but I can play with Sentinel. Lol.

I play with Matrix and Row anyways.

How do you play this game? What would you recommend practicing? I only play classic 2-d fighters that move at a slower pace. Every match I play in this thing goes down to time. Are there any characters you’d reccomend starting with to learn the basics? Are there Basics?

Well if your matches are going to time then obviously you are decent at defense and blocking mixup stuff…

You need to practice so that when you connect you always do 50%+ dmg if possible. That’s just how this game goes… so spend a bit of time in training mode. You don’t have to learn the game at a super high level… but enough to really do some damage when you get the chance.

Work out mixup that is 40-50% dmg into another 40-50% dmg. It’s so easy in this game… and it ensures that even if they don’t fall for it… they take big dmg… but if they do fall for it… they are f’d.

This is probably the deepest fighter you will ever play. Even as deep as Blazblue.

How do you play this game? Well, how do you play SF4, Blazblue and SSBB? It is more or less the same. The only exceptions are DemonHyo (plays MSP in MVC2, and Blanka in SF4) and me (not a pro like DemonHyo, but i count lol. I play Abel, Ken, DeeJay, and Balrog in SF4 and play Scrub and Team Z in MVC2). How you play in other fighters are pretty much similar.

Practice everything you want to know about a top tier character (if you wanna be competitive). If you wanna make a statement like VDO, focus on a low tier character and learn the strengths, weaknesses, and combos with that character.

Get that slow paced mentallity out of your head. This game is fast as hell, so be prepared to think quickly.

First thing to do is to learn how to block. In MVC2, not blocking can kill you extremely quickly. You also got to learn how to get people not to block. Guard breaks, cross-ups, and unblockables are the major ways. to get people to not block. Also try something called mind-fucking lol. Trick them into thinking one thing, and get them as a result.

Characters that I started with to learn the higher marvel portion (started with low-tier) were Storm/Sent/Cable AKA Team Sheild(?). This team teaches everything you need to learn. It teaches you to run away to build meter, rushdown, trap, keepaway, and the gods in general. If you want to start with Magneto, Magneto/Cable/Sent is the team to start with AKA Team Row. This teaches you how to rushdown with Magneto, Keepaway without the help of assist, and how to do quick damaging fast fly combos.

Basics= Runaway, Rushdown, Keepaway, and Trap

Runaway is when you run away using normals to build meter

Rushdown is when you attempt to get your opponent to stop blocking and pressure the hell out of him

Trap is when you keep someone blocking and chip them for major damage. If they don’t block they get hit by a combo.

Keepaway is when you use long range attacks to “keepaway” from your opponent.

Basic stuff you should learn for higher marvel is: Fly/Unfly, Fastfly, Runaway, Keepaway, Traps (spiral trap, Strider/Doom, Sent/Capcom, Jin/Doom (whoops! lol), etc.), ROM infinite, IM infinite, etc.

Hoped I helped

Thanks! I still suck pretty bad at this though (can’t beat arcade mode :/). The flying thing is very intimidating. That and finding some way to reliably do damage has been driving me up a wall.

Everyone has to start somewhere. You just need to get the basics down and then move onto more complicated and advanced combos. Everything is here on the forum just gotta read but I think the best way to learn this game is to actually go in training mode and mess around then refer here to the forums, I do it all the time you’ll get a better understanding… pretty much trial and error learning method.

 @ not being able to beat arcade mode, are you serious?

Yeah :(. Things just happen really fast. Getting a hang of the game a little now. Playing with Iron Man, Capcom, and Gambit. I actually won a few.

Edit: I’m actually using Iron Man, gambit, and capcom. Moriggan wasn’t so great. I refuse to not play gambit he is my fav X-Men character of all time.

Hey! I am not new at this game, since I bought it when it first came out on Dreamcast. Now, in the grand scheme of things, I do feel kinda noob. I would say I beat over 75% of the people I play against online, but there are a few people that completely destroy me.

My question is: your opponent picks Magneto, Storm, and Sentinel…WTF do you do??? WTF CAN you do?

block, pushblock, dodge, and dont let them get you at a disadvantage…just step your defense game up.

pick santhrax… GL

Defend well and make magnus run into your assists… chain something mean off said assist. Don’t let your assists become hail fodder for storm… gotta call em very carefully at times. Sent well… if he’s got no mando with him he’s not actually that bad… just don’t do anything stupid that leaves you or your assist open to HSF loops… in fact thinking about your question again… here’s the best answer for it…

“WTF do you do???” …nothing stupid or careless… the rest should fall into place so long as your op isn’t sanford kelly or some shit.

Hmm… really just depends on how well skilled your opponent is tbh.

Magneto
More than likely he’s gonna be rushing you down with Sent’s Rocket Punch assist all day long, crossing you up with Storm’s Typhoon assist as well. But both assist kinda of depends on where Magneto is too. Best thing to do is keep Magneto away from you, 1 hit is all it takes from him and he’ll drain your vitality with the quickness. He can build meter fast too.

Storm
She can rushdown too but most folks just use her to play keep away and build meter for the other characters. Typhoon xxx Hail Storm, expect to see that a lot!

Sentinel
More than likely gonna use stomp patterns, chip you and play keep away.

MSS is a good team but it lacks a AAA. I think Santhrax, MSP and Matrix counters MSS.

Suki Cancel

Can someone help me explain what suki cancel is? Ive heard the term used on other forums but im not sure what it is. ( i think its supposed to help with rush-down or cross-ups.)

I just downloaded this game for xbox. Looks fun. Im a sf4 and 3s player and i wanna develop some mvc skills for when mvc3 drops next april. First question on the list is : Is this game played at turbo 1 or turbo 2? Because default on xbox is turbo 1. Just dont wanna train my combos and all that shit at turbo 1 if the game is played at turbo 2 ya know?

normal play is turbo1. turbo2 is used if you wanna get real crazy maybe with friends or something.
