If you are set on running iron fist, I’d suggest running a pair of characters that are self sufficient second and third. Something like IF/Wolvie/doom or IF/Wesker/Doom. Iron fist has a mediocre assist, but really needs two support characters to do much of anything. IF has a really hard time threatening low attacks and also has a really hard time comboing off of air throws. This means that iron fist is mostly defeated if your opponent simply holds up back. Obviously, it’s not impossible to do well with him, but you will have to learn the ins and outs of him and really practice getting combos off of air throws. If you can’t threaten low OR air throw, you will have a ton of trouble. Iron fist is decent at getting in against push block, but you have to be wary about auto piloting rekkas. If your opponent push blocks smartly and you whiff one you will eat a full damage punish, so watch out. He’s not a lost cause, but you will have to put in twice as much effort to get to 75% of a herp derp wesker or wolverine. Good luck! And if you need any more specific questions I’ll try to help.
Edit: This is a giant wall of text. Not much useful info here. Ignore if you want.
Thanks for the info. Team selection is one of my primary concerns ATM, so there’s definitely helpful info in there.
On that subject, I do feel good about going IF/_____/Doom, but I’m curious about some alternatives to Wesker. How do you think these guys would fill in that role:
Taskmaster
Vergil
Dante
Nova
Each character seems self-sufficient, but I’m not sure how well they’d work, especially regarding assists (though I imagine Jam Session would be great).
I did mention Frank West initially, but I gather that he isn’t very self-sufficient, and that he wouldn’t be ideal, despite the great assist. Is this the case?
Dante would be actually pretty darn good. One of IF’s main drawbacks is that he has a hard time getting tricky mixups on incoming characters. Using jam session you will be able to set up really really dumb situations on incoming characters using IF’s fast dash speed with an assist call. IF/Dante/Doom would actually work fairly effectively, I imagine.
I really don’t recommend playing Vergil on that team, especially since his execution is really situational and is hard to get used to if you’re new to Marvel. I think a lot of characters will work assuming you have Doom, Dante is one of them even though he also has pretty high execution standards.
Anything happening in the lead-up to FFI? Somebody wanna have a KOF day? Three straight days of SFxT practice? Not having buses ruins EVERYTHING. Looks like no Halifax EB Games are doing ME3 midnight launches so I guess it’s Tuesday morning for us suckers.
Are most of the people without rides in NS? We’ve got people coming from Charlottetown, so we’ll pass near areas like Sackville, Moncton and Sussex on the way. Halifax and places like that would be too far out of the way though.
If people have licenses but not cars - there’s always rentals. Adding another expense to the weekend isn’t ideal but if you split it four ways it might be more reasonable. I know Jon not going is pretty out of the ordinary, and I haven’t heard anything from Nick about going so I assume he won’t be. And there’s always the bus if you want to go the Ridiculously Overpriced route…
To my knowledge there’s only two cars going up to FFI. I don’t know if I’ll be entering SFxT even though I really want to, if the buses don’t come back I can’t pick up my copy, haha.
Another problem is that Acadian Lines are on strike in NB and PEI. So, you can get anywhere in NS, but once you want to go beyond that, you’re effed. You can’t take the train either because it doesn’t stop in Saint John.
I asked Eli if he was going, but he’s not. As far as I know, no one from NS in the Tekken group is going, though I could be wrong. If people have driver’s licenses, they may want to look into renting a car. I’m really surprised that not more people are planning on going though, or at least people who can give rides. :<
You guys Blazblue is IMPOSSIBLE. Also it is impossible to learn matchups online unless you are specifically trying to learn Platinum (seriously: I have not been able to fight anyone online but Platinum. Vita too. I don’t get it) I am probably going to take Tyler’s advice and rock a Cheap-Ass Tager until I can actually play the game. I am also looking for a way to mute A-11’s voice and only her voice. Most annoying fighting game char ever?
There are probably so many Plats because people didn’t want to bother paying for DLC characters, but now that she comes with the game, everyone is trying her out. Also, if you play on PSN or XBL, you’re going to have the same problem, albeit with Ragna, and the occasional Hazama or Tager. Seriously, I haven’t played ranked myself, but 90% of the matches are Ragna players, from what I’ve heard.
My advice is that if you must play online, do player matches instead of ranked. Nobody ever takes ranked seriously, and if you want to improve your game, player matches are where it’s at. Ranked is too much noise, too many various levels of styles and skills to adapt to.
My main problem with Lambda is the constant murmuring - high-pitched yet subaudible verbal nonsense the whole match that never lets up for even a friggin’ second. (I also kind of think everybody talks too much all of the time in this game, but it’s worth it for the ninja dude who yells THIS IS LI’L KIM!) I have to mute the TV when I fight her or I’ll smash something (not unlike the baby in Catherine). I will give player matches a shot for sure, I think I was doing rankeds while waiting in training mode. I kind of like how it locks in your char when you play ranked!
