If these are going to stay in, then please remove me from SF4.
There’s really no reason to pre-emptively ban any characters from tournament play. Gouken isn’t even anywhere close to the top tier and yet somehow he’s banned. After the Japanese have had access to him, too, and not used him to dethrone Sagat/Ryu yet. So what’s with this? Seth isn’t even broken when selectable as a player character (proven pretty much by fact already in the time they’ve gotten to playtest him). There’s absolutely no reason for it. It seems like a poor call in judgment in what seems to otherwise be another awesome year for Final Round.
Because every year the FR thread devolves into pointless debates about tournament rules.
It’s specifically the wrong thread, in this case, because the exact discussion you wish to have is being held elsewhere. Go there, hopefully that will come to some sort of consensus (doubt it…).
So what you’re saying is caring about it and trying to have some kind of reform is pointless? There should probably be a link to the “right” thread so that I may post there instead of cancelling my and 12 other peoples’ trip. I’m not going to waste my time with random, pointless, unexplained rules changes in a tournament that should know better at this point.
It seems like everyone forgets its Larry’s tournament. If he decides on a rule, thats final. When the game comes out on console there is a chance that rule might change, but as of right now that is the rule.
Bottom line, we don’t need ban drama in this thread.
Not drama, discussion. It’s his tournament and I respect that. But not having a basis for the calls that are made leads to unhappy tournament goers: you know, the ones giving Larry money? I would just like some explanation for bannings is all. I’m flying in from Ohio, I deserve an explanation.

I didn’t see anything mentioning a ban on Gouken… or Seth for that matter, but as I said before, being a final boss no matter how bad a character is grounds for a ban in most people’s eyes and I’m fine with that.
All I want to know is where the heck the idea came from. Especially since Gouken is one of the new characters I’m most interested in learning.
I have had this debate in several threads in the sf4 section. Please reserch the sf4 threads to see what I’ve said on this subject. Just keep in mind that in older threads some of my post were erased from the matrix so you will never know the full reason. That topic always starts as a nice debate and then turns into flames/bash shinblanka threads! I don’t want that negative energy in this thread. If me banning 2 characters in SF4 will cause you not to come to FR12, then I will erase your name from the list.
I don’t want unhappy tournament goers at FR12, but those are the rules. As I’ve said in the other threads ***nothing is set in stone ***and I could change my mind when the console is released.:rolleyes: The problem is convicing me to unban them. With all of the flames/disrespectful post towards me on these forums and beyond srk will make it a hard sell now. I Don’t respond well towards the bashing method of trying to get me to change my rules at fr12. If anything that would make me unwilling to bend on the rules that are set. This will be the last time I address this issue until the week before FR12. My final verdit will come then.
I’ll edit you name out if you want me to sir. I don’t want unhappy players at FR12 and I wouldn’t want to waste your time or money. Everyone’s time is valuble and it shouldn’t be wasted imo. You should do what you feel is right for you sir. That’s what i’m trying to do with FR12. I figured if I Ban them now that those that didn’t agree with the ban wouldn’t attend. It would give me sometime to test them out when the console version is released, so I can make a better ruling on if my ban was justified or not through a lot of testing and getting opinions from other players I respect in the community.
It would be unfair to anyone if I waited until 1 week before FR12 and surprized everyone with the ban that I planned to do in the 1st place. I would rather give you the option to choose if you are willing to attend a tournament with those rule’s or sit this one out. I’m not trying to set the sf4 console tournament rules standard for the whole community with this ban, but some people are taking it to that level. I don’t believe a Major Tournament should be the testing grounds for characters I believe to be Gill-ish. Not within 3 weeks of the console release!
If I believe those characters maybe on the Gill side of broken BS then I reserve the right to ban them 1st and test them out 2nd to prove they aren’t gamebreaking. I was only going to ban seth at 1st, but someone pointed out several people saying that at CES tournament that they thought gouken was worst than seth. I was also told it wasn’t fair to ban seth and not ban gouken since they both are in question in being broken or not. I agreed with them and added gouken just to be fair. I wish the game would have been out on console atleast 2 months before FR12, but it won’t be.
There will be 2 1/2 weeks worth of testing that will need to be done before I can make the final verdit on seth and gouken. This issue is pretty much dead to me until that time comes. Please take this debate to the proper threads and let’s not derail this thread anymore than it already has been. Thank you.
