[Mar 2, 2012] FINAL ROUND XV apart of the Evolution 2k12 "PITSTOP" Road to EVO (Atlanta, GA)

Also shout out to the one honda player who waited til TWO SETS to go complain to a judge that it was not on 2012…my boy was pissed he had to replay those matches lol

I hate to hear about that, Mexiwont. Last time I went, I noticed several well known players having at-length discussion with tourney organizers standing at boards. Pointing here and there on the brackets. Organizers would change names around to where they would point to. Just those times when you say, “If I walked up to this person running my tourney and made a suggestion to shuffle certain players around, would he listen to me?”.

My only beef with that is if you’re a top player you shouldn’t give a shit who you have to fight: friend or not. Bulldoze them and keep it moving. There has to be some type of seeding system that does not involve players playing in the tourney helping make the decisions. Instant DQ to any non tourney organizer attempting to buy in, alter, negotiate, or second guess tourney organizer decisions. If anything, that shit should be insulting to the tourney organizers. But this will always be an issue. I know you personally, Mexi, so it sucks to hear you got screwed like that.

And that IS getting screwed. You’re right, it’s not about the fact you lost, it’s about the fact that someone flaunted celebrity and money, hopped in, beat you, then basically shitted on you by just leaving the tourney. I mean, if you’re still in Mobile, you traveled 6+ hours to participate in a game you’re very passionate about to get shitted on when you were expecting to go in and have a good time and play by the rules like all others.

The FGC is a great thing but sometimes it’s a joke.

Wait, Strider who? I didn’t DQ ANYBODY in your AE pool because they weren’t around. I only DQ’d three people in the entire tournament, and two were people who had friends tell me they were out.

Wait, are you talking about 801 Strider? The wait was because he was waiting to play his match on Stream, and the stream line was like a 30 minute wait. He was the first person I sent up there to play, and when I realized it was taking so long, I ended up sending the next streaming match up a half an hour early so it wouldn’t interfere with how the pool was run.

I won’t DQ anybody for quite some time. When I ran the pools my time limit was 20 minutes because I can always run other matches. It’s not fair of me to DQ somebody two minutes after I call them. That’s fucked up. Nobody wants to pay a bunch of money to come to our tournament and get kicked out of the brackets unless they’re an idiot or an asshole. I don’t like DQing people at all, and I know how to run the FUCK out of a bracket, so DQing is always a last resort.

Matter of fact, unless I’m confusing you, and you weren’t in pool 2, pool 2 was the only pool that basically finished on time.

I’d really like to know who FloE gave money to. This is a huge issue to me. I don’t give preferential treatment to any players. It’s not fair to have somebody waltz in super late and be all hollywood and shit. I don’t play that shit.

Yes 801 Strider, and yes I was in pool 2. And you DQd Arthur’s 2nd round match at the same time we were waiting for Strider…and when I asked him where he was he said he was eating, not playing on the stream like you said. In fact, he was called over the loud speaker 3 or 4 times, along with the other guy, and you DQd the other guy and not Strider, who showed up 5 minutes after. I was there when you DQd the guy, so unless you unDQd him or had someone filling in for you at the time it definitely happened. Either way, not sore over it, just an observation.

I don’t remember for sure who it was. Talk to Flash about who was helping him and who let Floe in the bracket, I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of it.

RPD, yeah, shitty situation indeed. I’m actually living in San Antonio TX now so I’m a bit farther away. Good to see you’re still around the scene.

that was so fun.

SOOOO I got a chance to interview some of the big names in the FGC last weekend at final round. I kept things light and just talked about their placing in the tournaments they entered, their thoughts on SfxT, and whether or not they like what MLG is doing with all of these new events.

The first batch of interviews are up now, and I got a chance to talk to Seth Killian, UltraChen, Arturo, Nerdjosh, iPeru, Skisonic, Sherryjenix, Scott Popular, Markman, and Clockwork. The second batch will include Spooky, Yipes, Noel Brown, and a few others.

The playlist can be found here:

Also I’ll embed a few of the better interviews after the spoiler:

I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous talking to Seth Killian and a few others but I tried to keep things laid back and let the guys talk about whatever was on their mind at the time.

Hope you guys like it

Arthur played his matches though. I don’t think he got DQ’d. I DQ’d somebody named Kurasama, and Noel Brown. And Strider was sent to the stream. If they told him there was a wait and he left then that was on the folks running the stream. I didn’t even know who Strider was until somebody came over and said he was decent. I think the only “Name” in your pool was Noel.

I’ll get BobSMack to pull the bracket just to be sure.

I don’t remember the name of the guy, might’ve been kurasama. But yeah, I was saying you DQd Arthur’s opponent, who was Noel Brown, not Arthur himself, in response to you saying you didn’t DQ anyone in the pool.

Either way man, this point has run its course. I don’t know all of the details surrounding all of this stuff, just stating what I saw and that it seemed inconsistent. With everything going on that day it wouldn’t surprise me if someone fed Strider wrong info and he took off. The bigger issue was the Floe thing and that needed to be brought to someone’s attention.

I also noticed something like this in my Marvel pool.

I looked at it at around 1 in the AM on Friday night (Saturday morning) and I had one well known player (Alex Valle) in there.

The next day, when my pool was scheduled to start, Noel Brown was magically at the bottom of my (very weak, as far as well known players go) pool.

I don’t know if this was just a fuck up on the part of the the guys running the site, or just possibly something with the brackets and having 400 people, but it did seem a bit suspicious/disappointing to me.

Other than that, good ass tournament. I was hype about all the new stuff that’s happened since last year (Host of online game show finale, several arcade machines of a game that’s not out in the US on free play, NOS, etc.). Feels like the community has grown so much in the last year, and using Final Round as a judge, I like the way it’s going. Next year, you guys will be ready to accommodate the hugeness that is bound to be FRXVI

With over 250+ people for SC and 400+ for MvC and SF, it’s pretty difficult to keep track of everybody when they’re playing in different games. I recall waiting well over an hour for Kensou to finish up at KoF despite telling him to come to SC5 immediately after his match was done in KoF. We had twice as many people as had shown last year. Even with the chaos, this was by far the best Final Round that I have been a part of and cannot wait to see how big we do it next year

Also, not DQing “known” players immediately is nothing new, and with more and more sponsorship money becoming involved it definitely shouldn’t be unexpected. I don’t think anybody would DQ Justin Wong after 2 minutes if he showed up to one of their locals and was in the bathroom for 10 minutes when his match came up. This isn’t to say that people are “buying” their way as somebody insinuated earlier, but business decisions have to be made while also being fair towards everybody else (hence the Wolfkrone DQ and many others).

Much love for all that showed!

as far as brackets go…I wasnt having any of that no showing stuff or being late…despite setbacks we where understaffed but everyone put in hard work (to those that didnt ead…im dead serious) to make the magic happen…at the end of the day I could barely walk but it was a good accomplishment type of pain.saying that the event “was poorly ran” is one of the dumbest things I have heard this month…making due with what you have and adjusting to a situation shows strong character and commitment…I know certain things where not to some people’s favor but one could use this experience to make an even better event and thats ok…

oh and about players buying their way into brackets…wtf…

BRACKET FAVORITIZM FOR TOP PLAYERS IS NOT A PRACTICE OF FR! To create a fair tournament I apoligize if anything happen that I wasn’t aware of in that manner. Just because someone is a top player shouldn’t be the reason they get an extra chance. As organizers we have to think up a better way to get people in their pools for their matches. I’m already thinking of new ways to achieve a better balance of brackets for players that play in multiple games over the weekend. Sorry if people weekend was ruined over piss poor management. That fall apon my shoulders.

who ran pool 16 of AE? dude’s pretty fuckin awesome lol

overall it was a crazy event, i was really tired by the end of each day, crazy to think that i didnt go out to play any MMs at all haha

didnt do well in the tournament i entered, but id like to think i did pretty good at managing some if not most of the team japan, and cheerin for them until i lost my voice lol

ill definitely try to go again next year, maybe entering 2-3 games instead of just one (though in a way i was glad i did so because id probably die of exhaustion lol)

FRXVI GET HYPE

Thank you sir but we can do much better. I’m glad you enjoyed your trip to frxv.

Final Round XV was insane than last year. We had more than we anticipated and on top of that. We didn’t know the game weren’t up-to-date for 2 consoles for AE until Justin Wong notice it. Also, the monitor were acting up while doing the AE. 400+ players…That’s insane…Especially for Final Round. We tried our best to get everything running smooth.

As for next year. I’ll ensure to validate every console before we open the door and let everyone play casual before the tournament starts.

I was there from 8am till 2ishAM. Shit was crazy on that Saturday night.

For those who were in pool 2 for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Thank you for being patient with me. It was my first time running a bracket with Final Round XV. But, I ran that smooth as hell with your help and cooperation. Thank you for making it easier on me and for your pool part. I’ll ensure to make it easier next year at Final Round XVI.

Hello everyone, i’m official back and it has been a crazy 2 weeks for me personally and T.O. wise and I would like to look at what happen during FRXV from my own eyes. Hopefully this can help others not to make the mistakes I did moving forward in T.O.! While the matches on sunday was great and everyone enjoyed watching/playing on sunday at frxv SATURDAY WAS A CLUSTER ON A MASSIVE SCALE! There is nothing I can say or do to make that any better than it was. It was a total dropped ball by ME because I didn’t have enough system or volunteers to handle the amount of players/spectators that would attend this years event. So let’s run through the list of fuck up’s on my part during FRXV: 1. short staff= stress to the staff/volunteers I had and that lead to problems with players and the tournament itself. People shouldn’t have to leave their vacations like Eric Small, John Gallagher robin, Hal, and countless others that volunteer onsite to help me out with FR like they did! I really appreciate that fella’s. That was some real stand up/respect you guys gave me during FRXV. 2. short on equipment= stress on everyone! I had to take some monitors from other area’s to get the bigger events rolling. 3. Equipment being ready onsite= stress on me/players and delaying the tournament. Just make sure all of your systems have all of the correct info/patches before the event starts. I know to do that, but some way some how things got lost in the matrix and it didn’t happen until the systems was on site. 4. at the door registration= is the devil that i’m leaning towards getting rid of at this moment. For me it’s becoming a hassle to sign people up at the door with the size FR is becoming. While I could still have at the door reg next year without problems, it would be easier to just arrive at the venue not worry about rebalance the brackets due to late entry’s at the door. I see why Evo doesn’t fool with that BS anymore. I may have to follow suit next year. 5. Multiple huge tournaments going on the same day= Now that FRXV has gone and past I see SCV and KOF13 are not going anywhere in attendance! At this year event we set records for those games in attendance with 254+ in SCV and 174 in KOF13. They both was on the same day as the 2 huge events umvc3 and ae that had 400+ players. That = I need a bigger boat! lol 6. Room size= I could have move something around to give us more room, but the way the room was set up we used every inch of that room for tournament and it was just too freaking small for that size of event PLUS sponsors/vendor booths! I’m already looking into a bigger venue for next year! 7. I wasn’t as hands on with the brackets like i’m normally are during FR= a problem I could catch everything that happen during FRXV. Somethings shouldn’t happen during a tournament regaurdless of how late things are running. These are things we’ll correct in the future. Those are the main problems I had during FRXV from the tournament aspect, but I can correct those things. By all means i’m not telling others how to run their own event, but i’m simply going over things that went horribly wrong at FRXV and for you guys to avoid my mistakes. Most of these things should have never happen, but they did and I take full responsibility for those things as it was a piss poor performance in organizing an event imo! I will not use my personal issue as an excuse! That would be disrespecting my mother memory and I won’t do that! If I start something I must see it through! That’s what she taught me and that’s why i didn’t cancel FRXV. Thanks to everyone that attended FRXV and I hope you return for next years event…

sf4, umvc3, SCV, and kof13 had top 8 payouts. The rest had top 3 payouts due to the small size of the events with no prize bonus. I can’t post on the front page of eventhubs for some reason, but here is the break down for the top 8 games.

  1. 45% + $1000 to be paid by Evo.
  2. 22.5%
  3. 10%
  4. 7.5%
  5. 5%
  6. 5%
  7. 2.5%
  8. 2.5%

The Evo bonus will be handled by Evo staff. If we didn’t have the Evo prize Bonus we prolly would have stay at the regular top 3 only. There was an error with the first plane ticket for ageo joe on our part that he was stranded in japan until a mutual friend in japan paid for the 2nd ticket. Me and scott popular owed him each half of the plane ticket to get joe to FRXV. I’ve paid my half and i’m sure scott popular will handle his end when he gets back to japan. Why would we spend an extra $1400+ to make sure to fly him out just to cheat him out of his prize money? Why would we do that? Regardless of what problems we had during the event on saturday there has NEVER been anytime in the history of FINAL ROUND THAT PLAYERS DIDN’T GET PAID! Ask the SCV players if they got paid in a timely manner! I can’t even believe this is an issue!

Larry, please accept my condolences on the passing of your mother - to you and your family. I know how painful it is to lose a parent.

Following through with the tournament was simply incredible on your part, and just reinforces your dedication to the community for all these years. Unfortunately I couldn’t make this one, but I’ve enjoyed all I have attended in the past.

Even though I’ve pretty much stopped playing, I hope to make it down next year sir. Hope to see you then.

Finally now that I’m actually settled down I can actually send some shouts out:

First of big shouts to everyone who came to final round. This event was amazing. It was quite a challenge to run this event this year, but I’m glad most of you enjoyed it.

Big shouts to Larry for letting me help run this event for the 5th year in a row, it seems like yesterday I was in a separate room trying to help run Smash and Melty Blood. I also gotta throw you some love for letting me DJ on Friday. Even though the party was canceled I had a blast on friday. Also thanks for letting a brotha create the intro beat, and be put to the video with the sickness.

Big shouts to all of the Final Round Staff. It was nice to see my family again.

Big Shouts to the DJ from Florida who was PRO AS SHIT, and was tagging with on Friday. Its nice to see other people jam, it was fun.

Big shouts to Spooky, Nerdjosh, Arturo Sanchez, Afro Cole, Choco, Online Tony, Eddie Mu, Amy Wong, Remix, Yipes, and probably a whole bunch of people I’m forgetting…Till we meet again…in like 3 months.

Man, shoutouts to my man Larry for always holding the most bomb tourney in the south! I’ve only missed one since I started going and I plan on keeping it that way, shit is always so hype!

GoforBroke: Thanks for running the pool, it’s always a thankless job and no offense but a lot of us could tell you didn’t run tourney brackets normally lol but we helped you out as much as we could.

I have a question for you Larry, since I qualified for 9th for UMvC3, I’m supposed to be seeded for Evo right? Are you going to contact everyone for their evo points soon? I heard from Spooky you were going to get our info in our email eventually so it’ll get mailed out to us.
