at first, he used Guy. Then I think he dropped him for cammy.
Hmm, guile is very difficult (it’s difficult for any non-fireball character anyway xD).
I didnt play a lot against good honda to tell. I beat them all until now.
Chun is annoying, but i dont think its too difficult too. Her backdash is annoying, but you can easily do wakeup game/option select, since her EX SBK is slow.
Good match v-ryu. I gotta say though, I was lookin for you to do the lp Fukiage in the corner after you hit em w/ the EX Hayate.

3 new matches I just recorded today from my online battle log hehe
2 against Seth and 1 against Rufus. . .haven’t really practiced anything fancy or OS’s or nothing like that. Slowly learning them just working on my pressure and what not while trying to maintain my mind games with defense. Weird I know -_-
The funny thing is all of the Makoto’s I have seen thus far all are pretty different. Can’t wait to see some more of em
Man NinjaCW good stuff. Second round of second match with Seth was awesome. I was having problems with a Seth today actually. Seems the second he starts his offensive attack all I could do was block. Man can it get frustrating. This is the problem I often have with heavily offensive character. Rufus, Fei Long, Seth, Cammy, C. Viper…
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get out of sequences of block strings? I always seem to get knocked out of back dash, and Ex-Karakusa rarely ever actually works the way i intend for it to. I guess neutral jump? This is currently my biggest pitfall. Perhaps it’s just the nature of Makoto. Unless you get on the offensive first is there really much hope of getting it back?
Ninja the more I watch of your videos the more I come to realize that the biggest travesty for makoto is that her ariel axe, for some reason, isn’t an overhead.
Also, if you are going to start posting vids again can you put some up of matches vs shotos or sagat please?
No safe jump if you do LP fukiage
I do it if opponent is near stun, or when I have EX to do EX tsurugi, or when i’m very close to corner (fukiage sometimes miss if you’re too far. And you get punish :(:( )
Without that, i prefer use safe jump or wakeup mixup
(EX hayate -> straight jump+move = safe jump (4F+) if opponent quick recovery). Cammy’s cannon spike is 4F+ move.
Unlucky, he didnt quick recovery
Gotcha. That makes sense.
Ninja if there is a correct way to play makoto, I’d say the way you play her is how.
I know IAT is very important sadly i suck at getting it to hit correctly or pulling it off consistently. Honestly If you can’t do IAT you minds well drop makoto. /me cry’s a river.
Mmm, correct would be pushing it. NinjaCW takes the tools he enjoys using and sticks with them. Take a look at FlashM for example however, and you see a far more old-school third strike approach involving heavy usage of karakusa, fukiage juggle combos, and feints. I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen NinjaCW use fukiage purposefully in the matches I’ve seen him play. He feints, but not to the extent that FlashM does.
So I would say, really, Makoto is just a very dynamic character that has a lot of tools who can be played in many different ways, from focusing on IAT mixup to focusing on karakusa mixups and anywhere in between.
And in regards to the IAT, it’s not too hard. If you’re trying to do: :qcb::uf:+:k:, it most likely won’t work (or at least I’ve never gotten it to come out that way). I find I approach 100% consistency using :uf::r::df::qcb:+:k:.
So instead of “Buffer Tsurugi” > “Jump” > “Finish Tsurugi”, doing “Jump” > “Do Tsurugi really fast” works perfectly well. It’s very different than say, Cammy’s tiger-knee cannon strike.
Makoto = Toyota AE86?
FlashM is able to mix in feints for days because one he doesn’t miss the s.mp *2 link very often and he doesn’t play a bunch of mashers. When I FINALLY get people to start blocking then I will move on to that part of my game but I rarely do it because people just don’t block so I have to ram s.mp and Tsurugi down their throats with overheads. I would love to attempt a karakusa but because I’m fairly certain they are backdashing or holding up or up/back just keep hitting them.
Ninja edit - Not saying I use her perfectly but that’s just reasoning you don’t see me using so many other moves plus I’m still learning and dealing with all the really bad match ups. Gonna try to upload some tonight of me losing so you get an idea of my pain lol People seem to think I don’t lose and I lose A LOT lol.
Got some games I wanna put up against a Viper and another Rufus. I don’t seem to have many Shoto/Sagat players on my list let alone run into them but ill save and post if the match is worth anything.
I’m glad you got that out in the air. Honestly that my biggest problem with makoto is that I can’t beat people that mash consistently but people who actually know what there are doing and don’t mash are much easier fights. Losing to someone who literally mashes on jab for free is  but I’ma work on IAT and see if it will force people to not just throw out normals or back dashing or jumping up.
Heh I was thinking of making a post discussing the validity of hayate feints. I’m not a big fan of them at all, ESPECIALLY after a karakusa. Go for the guaranteed fucking damage. There’s nothing worse than eating a DP after your feint setup or having the opponent backdash away. GET DAT FREE DAMAGE SON.
Makoto is totally the Toyota AE86 and definitely requires a Takumi at the wheel:wgrin:
Hayate feints that move you closer or keep you at the same range do make for some kind of extended offense. There has to be some value in that.
It could probably only serve to supplement an effective offense as opposed to providing for one though…
I think you should use the feints because they work well in karakusa mixups. Its not about the DMG all the time, even though its a big part of the game but, if your trying to get a ultra off and u have no meter, using feints and baiting reversals is your best way of going about it. I know what your coming from but feints is still a big part of her mix-up.
wtf i play a good rose player and any move i do is slower then hers…not one thing i could do against her…any advice?
Use your projectile, but don’t abuse it
is this NOT a Makoto thread?
