Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

the whole ex rekka into ultra is ridiculous with this character. he gets ex rekka from everything and then his ultra goes for full animation grounded or juggled. the whole overhead into ex rekka into ultra is BS… IMO, any ex overhead should lead to knockdown!

Ultra Street Fighter IV mixup night #27 results

  1. Mago (Yang, Fei Long)
  2. KoujiKOG (T.Hawk)
  3. Dogura (Rolento)
  4. Meu (Makoto)
  5. Mero (Elena)
  6. J (Abel)
  7. Haitani (Rufus)
  8. Harideshi (M.Bison)

meu lost to dogura’s rolento!

elena, rolento, rufus are all pretty stupid imo. the high low mixup with elena and rolento and the ex messiah bs with rufus. oh, I forgot the q bomb bs with elf…

I’m ready for SF5!

Rolento stick, with that range and speed, is like kryptonite for Makoto. Plus he seems always safe and get close to him isn’t that easy, especially with our close to none safe options. Stay in once we reach him is the only hope in this MU. Even if Meu and Misse are good players, none of them have the knowledge of VRyu or the pure skill of Haitani. We don’t have a phenom.

^ Why doesn’t he HC his s.HP more than half the time? Is it to bait something out?

No, mistakes.

That’s a pretty clean USF4 Makoto 101 if I ever saw one, that match against this Cody.

Tetsu hasn’t changed yet. Good to know

This match seems played by 3 different Makotos. Three first one try to be safest as possible, the second was very lucky, the third use ex fuki how is supposed to be used. The Boxer knows the MU, that’s why all those FA was useless against him, but those punches from downtown was stupid since even a kara-throw can beat it. Whatever, he lose and Makoto wins, so I’m glad

In this set Tetsu shows what to do and not to do against Yang. Playing too close against him without having frame adv or meter for EX Karakusa is… stupid. Yang’s crouch shorts are faster and have good range, also st.lp is good against Makoto when she’s close. Tetsu do too many MK Tsurugis and Mago punish them every fucking time. Also A2A why not j.mk/hk instead of tsurugis against the dives? J.HK is GDLK against him in that situation plus does a lot of stun. Do a safe jump with j.hk then a pair of cr.lp’s put every character in the game in blockstun, with that the opponent can’t mash a DP against us:

Don’t know why j.hk works better than j.hp since they are all fierce attacks, but whatever, do that destroys the block-then-mash game of many happy shoryu players. Last:everytime Tetsu was cornered and he’s out of health he finally goes for an hail Mary karakusa. WRONG. Only who don’t know Makoto goes for a meaty blockstring, some try to evade our grab with a neutral jump (solution: wait a bit then raw AA U1) and only good players think about another way to trick us. Mago choose the airborne overhead. In that situation a raw U1 is the only way to survive, sounds noobish, but hey, people forget Seichusen is our only invincible reversal,so…

Karakusa EX once you have the possibility to do that and punish harder you can,Yang need to respect our close game and learn mashing 3f shorts aren’t safe as they think. After a pair of those we can go back with our general plan made of high-low mix-ups. Since Yang’s dive is not even close to the Yun one be on point with the proper AA or FA that shit if you smell the upcoming dive. If Yang knock you down don’t try to counter it,block and backdash or FA+backdash after blocking.

The only way Yang can beat Makoto is from his cr.lp/lk xx Rekka stuff, if you don’t panic is all beatable.

I think one thing to not forget in watching this set… Mago and tetsumakoto aren’t exactly the same level of players, and I understand a lot fo what tetsu is doing from personal experience of long sets against a better player than me using Yang. ( Played Ranix a lot a few months ago )
This matchup require a lot of patience, and its very hard to keep composure over a lot of games because Yang’s pressure is just tough to handle mentally.

Yeah, is a very different match, isn’t Yun so for this reason we don’t have to go faster than him. Yang is for patient players,is similar to Fei,but he has a dive. He don’t do a great damage/stun like Makoto, he needs 4/5 combos to do what Makoto does with 2/3. He’s the first one who wants to avoid the risk,go slowly at first and put him in health disadvantage works. Even force him to relies on DP can be useful, bait that shit and punish. I don’t see many Yangs around since AE, some people lack in experience against him,Tetsu is one of them. Mago played Yang like he plays Fei Long, whiff punish everything with cr.lk xx rekka, every normal at a -4 and over disadvantage even. Yang cr.lk takes him out of ex karakusa range, he knows the matchup. He punish with a DP everytime Tetsu goes for a low blockstun jumpin… Mago is on another level in knowledge.

meu ft10 vs cammy

Damn that Cammy was feeling herself a lot.

Meu is playing great, but I feel like he’s too respectful in his oki, he almost always just sit there and wait for her to wakeup with something, while getting most of his damage from good neutral situations.

I guess that’s what DWU did to her sadly.

By the way, Duke and Misse played quite a few matches on stream during Starting Over. I kind ahope someone regroup them in a video, not sure if it will happen tho.

Please help me to improve my neutral game and my game in general:

The last one doesn’t have audio. I struggle against Sagat and I think it has to do with my poor ability to control the close-mid range. As I watched these I realized that I need to be walking forward more instead of only trying to find windows to dash. My wake up reads need work, is there any OS you guys could recommend for me to use based on what you’ve seen?
