Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

Impressive, and interesting.
That Makoto almost always went with a heavy tsurugi as ender instead of a jHP for a reset, but it worked well because most of his opponent weren’t doing DWU on that one. ( which might actually be hard to do, because you have to react fast to the fact that’s it’s a hard KD and not a jHP )
He also wasn’t actively trying to convert his fLP or crLK into ex fukiage, instead going for traditional normal pressure. Mostly due to novelty.

The damage looks good atleast, can’t complain. And the axekick nerf is really hard to notice from watching only.

That last match against Tokido is awesome
Look at how smart that Red focus was oO

The player in the A-cho videos is Kamenosuke. Always uses U1 and picks black school girl uniform.

Well damn me, people make highlights quicker than we can see matches now.

I laughed.

Chun has the Seth stomp mix up now ? Or did she always had that ?

It’s like asking why San Goku can perform a kamehameha since it’s Cell’s attack
Seth stole all his techs.

I never saw a Chun do this before, I thought her cross up attack wasn’t good enough to hit after stomp consistently.

Some footage of the current top Makoto player, imo his Mak is nothing special but still nice to see some usf4 play:

I see HK tsurigi dominating the pressure game now!

Didn’t take long for Vryu to find stuff.
The axekick on the first setup is a cross up and avoid reversal DP. It’s from the PC mod but I see no reason why it would not work in the real thing.

I can’t count how many times citi let Sanford alive for free. Around 12:00 min. citi starts playing more aggressive. Try to fight Sagat midscreen it’s too risky and let him have control of the match with his superior zoning/spacing. Makoto can destroy that plan forcing Sagat to mash some TU’s to leave Makoto out of him. Sanford was lucky, many n.jumps/blocked dp’s unpunished, but probably he knows citi habits very well. Citi goes also for risky st.mp*2 combos when classic st.hpxxhayate would be a better idea. Nice set btw.

I don’t get why so many Makotos choose U1 instead of U2 in this match. Probably because of the combo-ability of Seichusen, but with that Sagat can throw out fireballs 24/7. Even I can understand the reason I prefer use U2 as a fear factor, with that Sagat need to think twice before throwing shit at me. Even Vryu seems prefer U1 instead of U2 against Gat.

Works already. We don’t need to crossdown every time after an air reset, people knows what’s gonna happen after that. Like this we put the opponent in a dangerous guess with many possibilities for us to stun them. Vryu really deserves that sensei title

Don’t forget fake cross down by crouching! Pretty sure Vryu found that too!

In high level play against sagat, U2 is useless imo. you want the opponent to be afraid of getting command grabbed. i finally gave in and started plinking so i was just having fun doing mp*3 or hp xx mp mp against him. aside from all that youve mentioned, i also missed a few ultras and went for combos instead. playing against sanford is not a case where i can just dash or jump in on him. he is pretty good at getting you to fight at mid screen. as you were able to see, he was able to kara Dp my wiffed ax kick.

Haitani used U2 to beat Ryan Hart at TGS and that Supersantaruman guy at Thaiger Uppercut. On the other hand, Kamenosuke did really well against a high level arcade Sagat (will link later) in one of those A-cho sets using U1. Picking your ultra in this particular match is weighed more on personal preference than level of play.

U2 obviously keeps Sagat from throwing full screen fireballs and helps against mid-range fireballs if you have the reactions. I’m not trying to single you out, but count how much life you lost due to Tiger Shots and fireball chip to get an idea of why U2 is viable against Sagat. U2 can also be done in reaction to Tiger Knee, where it usually triggers a cinematic. Sagat takes risks with block strings into specials (especially Tiger Knee) if your reactions are on point. This can arguably be done with U1 as well, but U2 scores more damage with the follow up and provides the hold LK safety option (AKA you fucked up option).

U1 is viable for all the same reasons it is against any character, but Makoto is surprisingly difficult to AA in this match up which leads to j.FP > U1 as a realistic mid-screen damage option when jumps are properly mixed up with IATs, late Tsurugis, and plink Tsurugis. Jump-in > U1 is a pretty underutilized combo for mid-screen damage, I forget to use it myself all the time, but it won’t be as important in Ultra with the EX Fukiage combos. This isn’t to say I advocate constantly jumping in on Sagat, but the threat of U1 damage from a jump at mid-screen is pretty noteworthy. Plus, U1 leads to an easy safe jump that is not available to U2.

Edit: here’s the Kamenosuke match. Unfortunately it is not the blow up I remember. The score is either 7-6 Kamenosuke or 6-6 tied. He plays like a lunatic, but it’s still awesome material for the Sagat match up.
