Do you guys think Shiro might go back to Abel in 2012?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many whiff punishes or outstretched limbs being tagged in like…ever.
Quick question, why does every pro I see respect Zangief’s wake-up game EVERY time with jb.HP or the like? I mean, these Zangiefs never wake-up reversal, they know it’s stupid and won’t work. So they always counter the jb.HP or just let them do it and get off free on wake-up.
My humble opinion:
Because it is the safest bet for Makoto since, for gief on wakeup, backdash>LP SPD beats 90% of her options while wakup lariat beats EX kara and Tsurugi. Of course we can safejump OS U1 to beat the backdash, but that’s going all in, and will lose to neutral jump headbutt or just good ol’ blocking. Also, the jump back HP allows for punishing of 90% of Gief’s offensive wakup options outside of U2 of course.
That’s why I hate playing gief. We have to resort to playing footsies and running away, and its kind of anti makoto. There’s no wakup games, no blockstrings, usually no karakusa, and no tricks or treats because as long as they are churning that butter, we risk a KD everytime we step in range if there is ever a gap in anything. so its usually just best to find that perfect distance where c.MP will beat everything and do what I will call a Robo special (c.MP whiff, they jump, LP Fuki lol i’ve seen you write that like 5 times) because it works extremely well against gief. Fighting him is really different than fighting anyone else, especially when he has any EX meter at all and/or ultra 2. He’s much harder than, say Thawk simply because of Lariat. I can deal with the grab range but with the superb poking, lariat, limb grabbing, EX GH, and U2 he can be a handfull if you get too close to him. I suppose jb.HP is just the most balanced since it generally protects you while still punish several of his options. If you come up empty its ok, IMO since it is so difficult for gief to punish without U2.
I’m curious though, what other options do you use?
Edit - Oh yeah, am I the only one that thinks its peanut butter jelly time when I see gief get hit with MK IAT??? I could do the whole dance in between IAT and U1 LMAO:

Safe jump OS doesn’t lose to neutral jump or blocking - it loses to EX SPD Unless you do a late Tsurugi, then you get PUNISHED with an SPD/U1.
I like pressing into Gief at first (on a read, of course, no way in hell will I do that against 800 PP 5,000 BP Spinny MacSpinner Gief) to make him feel like I’m gonna keep attacking him, then start working the empty jump backs or just let off. It works, usually. Gief is like any character, he has invincible reversals but he can pay dearly for failing that. Smart Giefs just don’t go for it, they get respected all day for their character and know no one’s gonna attack them. They’ll crouch-tech and wait for a Lariat AA or just watch you jump back and get back to chasing you. NO!!! Fuck that, I know where the mind games stand … they’ll be eating c.LP, f+LP+HP for dinner like the rest of the smart players, the bastards!!!
Meaty Oroshi beats every guef wakeup option (except u1 and EX spd). And you can punish his backdash with stMK
I’m the opposite: I love playing a good Gief because it keeps me on my toes and lets me practice controlling space with Makoto’s normals, which is something I sometimes neglect in the face of rushing down.
I know it’s dangerous to do against a Gief that blocks but I have yet to find one who does online. I do late hk tsurugi which beats lariat and if you time it, jump headbutt gets beaten too. I also abuse Zangief’s wake up with meaty mp into ex oroshi when he doesn’t have meter.
The only thing you have to watch out for is ultra 2 for the tsurugi and change it up when he blocks. Like always, change it up once they learn. I figure once they start blocking, you can just empty jump into throw or karakusa.
Gief, more than any other character I face, gets completely broken down mentally when they get karakusa’d, at least the ones I’ve faced. It goes against the Gief mentality: HE’S the one that’s supposed to be doning the grabbing, not vice versa.
More videos for your entertainment!!
Nice short videos of curiosities for all to enjoy (I’ll leave the informative video posts to the Makoto gods)
The first is me getting demolished by a rufus player after his internal guile theme started playing

The second is a two back to back ultras

(yes I was apart of his 23 game win streak…he was on fire that night. Ive played long sets two other times with him and Ive edged him out both times…not this time. But I did win this game to end the streak)
Next this ryu player not only disrupted a perfectly placed cross up, but then he hit me with super into ultra!

though the emphasis of this video was on the super into ultra, I had to leave in the fact that I killed him in the end!
Finally a math formula
Raging Makoto + Low health Seth = Salty opponent : )

(this video is for Robot Makoto, who justifiably criticized me for not punishing that last seth player after I blocked his ultra…hope this is better)
Personally, I would have not activated Super at all. I would have gone for a Karakusa and attempted (I say attempted because with online conditions being the way they are, things don’t always come out, even though I can hit them offline with my eyes closed) to st HP - HC - st MP - EX Hayate - Fuki - EX Tsrugi. You would have only burned two bars and done a lot of damage. After all, that was only one round for you. I think ahead and think about doing the maximum damage with as little meter use as possible if I’ve got another round ahead of me.
Meter is important for Makoto, that’s why I initially thought that her new TC, Super Cancelable option was pants. Although, from reading some posts on here it seems that it is indeed Special cancelable, which seems far better. I don’t like wasting a full load of meter on Super unless it’s going to kill.
Edit: You know, it doesn’t matter what I say really. Everybody, and I mean everybody does unorthodox things in the heat of the moment. It’s easy for someone to sit here and look at someone elses video and say, “well, you should have done that!” If we all had the benefit of hindsight, then we’d all be far better players.
My execution is garbage, it’s the weakest part of my overall game and it holds me back as a player I feel. I never go for hayate cancel combos becaus I can almost never pll them off consistently no matter how hard I practice them. It’s kind of frustrating because I feel like I’m on the precipice of really breaking through to that next level too sometimes but my “stupid fingers” hold me back.
They can be a bit difficult, especially when you’re starting out. I’m at the stage where I can hit them all the time offline. However, online it’s hit and miss. Sometimes I’ll do a Hayate cancel and I’ll just get the rush punch. It’s a real problem for me when playing online. Certain things just don’t work with Makoto if I’ve got a laggy connection. Namely her Hayate cancels, and even her corner combo’s, whereas the Fukiage won’t hit after an EX Hayate. It really annoys me because that’s a lot of damage right there that I’m missing out on.
This is true. I usually would save it for the next round (which I won anyway) but I figured the super would kill. Got lucky with the air to air and with him not blocking the over head. In hindsight maybe I should have focus attacked, tsurgi, fierce, ex hayate, fukiage… It definitely would have been less luck involved
Sorry for sounding condescending, Mcgowan, the last thing I’d want to do is sound like that. I know you’ve stuck with Makoto for a good while now, as I remember playing you way back, I think before AE dropped.
Getting my HD PVR today. Once I get it set up, I’ll record a few of my recent replays and post them here for analysis. I’ve been playing Makoto since Super, but I’m still really bad since I often only get to play on the one or two days off I get a week.
ok this time i got some questions with the matches
but 1st a funny vid

now thats outta the way. 1st off is a match vs a fei long player. i learn during this match that when i get in the corner pressured vs fei im fucked. idk what to do when i get pressured by fei…also lol j.fierce for fei. anyway the guy was decent but i felt i coulda won if i knew how to fight fei better.

second is a rog match. i always had trouble with rog even before i started playing makoto. only cause idk how to beat the safe ass dashing punches. as you see in this vid when my opponent found out idk what to do against those he just let em fly… it was one point i was like “hey lets try ex karakusa i have armor too!” and got ate…any tips on how to beat those or what the strategy vs rog?

last vid is a match i won vs ken. im posting this one cause i felt i did some good things in this match. but i want some critique nonetheless

Here is my scrubby Makoto. The wakeup Ultra in the second round was my attempt at an escape, but I ended up confusing myself on which side I was on. I’m not sure how I got confused, because when I watch the video in retrospect, its pretty obvious, but yeah. I have plenty more replays saved, including one where I get hit by every single one of this Chun Li’s overhead kick special (don’t know the name, Hozansho or something?) and I lose both rounds to cr. lk xx EX Lightning Legs, Ultra 2. I’ll upload it later when I get my HD PVR problem fixed.
Also, if anyone has an HD PVR, I’d like some help with it. My computer is very decent but I still can only record at lower bitrates without it skipping out on recording large chunks of the match. Does my internet have anything to do with this? I recorded the match wireless, if plugging it directly into my router would help then I’ll just do that, I just did it wireless to test it out. I’ve already posted in Tech Talk, but have yet to receive a response. Tips would help, for both my recording problem and my match play.

Sorry for the double post, but I didn’t want to reply to someone’s video and post my own in the same entry.
I can only really help you in the Rog match since I have a friend who plays him a lot. I don’t get any experience vs Fei and I don’t know any decent Kens.
st. MP beats non EX dash punches on reaction, but you have to be really on point in seeing them.
meaty cr. LK OS tech throw beats all his wakeup options except for EX Headbutt (I think, it might actually beat EX but I’m not sure).
But yeah, other headbutts will just plain whiff and you can punish afterwards.
