Makoto Video Thread/Match Critiques

I know i wont hit from a distance but it builds meter for me? also im repeatedly doing it so i can eventually execute it well enough to do it instantly, atm its impossible. But yes you are correct, i need much more practice, ill catch you all up eventually

My amazing what?

  • Stop jumping back. Jump back is only good for stuff like immediate jb.HP or jb.MP to stuff jumps.
  • Don’t jump to move unless full screen.
  • Stop holding down-back, Evil Ryu can’t do some 1-frame shit from a mile away. You’re not fighting scrub Ibukis or whatever. Holding down-back = giving your opponent freedom of movement = less chance to have correct spacing or advance.
  • Dash more. FA dash through fireballs.
  • Work on your mix-ups, re-read the AEMAKOTO mix-ups.
  • Don’t use Tsurugi off of a direct jump-in, that’s terrible. j.HP >>>>>>>>> MK Tsurugi as a jump-in.
  • f+HP TC is good, but it’s more for punishing FAs and a once in a while thing, at a specific range. Like most of Makoto’s moves, they’re a footsie tool, not a thoughtless poke like some Dictator s.HK shit. At your level you’ll eat a lot of jump-ins because of that move. It’s a great tool, but its use should be limited.
  • f+MK TC is bad, about the only good thing it’s good for is punishing T. Hawk’s Condor Dive and the lucky f+MK, EX Tsurugi mix-up. You should just dash up instead of using f+MK.
  • Don’t random U1.

Honestly, and we’re not trying to be mean here (except for hehwat, I guess), you need to learn Makoto before you post more videos, because you haven’t got a clue yet. Watch a lot of these guys: BIGDANMUL, Haitani, V-Ryu, Shiro, and MILD COCOA17, and some lesser known Makotos (not players, Makotos) like Shiro-Itachi, Momochi, Mok11bk (one of my old favorites), and for a blast from the past, FlashMetroid. FlashMetroid’s style is really different, lots of Hayate Cancels … not really effective, but he won with those low-reward high-risk mind games in a way most players wouldn’t have a shot with.

Thanks for that, it helps a lot. ok lol i wont post any more vids till i got a clue what I’m doing. the next time it will be much better. no worries about hehwat, his trolling is as as bad as my makoto.

lol hitbox @ 2:03

also why do it seem like all chun gotta do it get a good poking game going on and makoto can’t do nothing but try and counter with c.MP os?

Cause once you do get in it seems to be hard for Chun to get Makoto off her.

Isn’t that 95% of Makoto’s match ups?

My wannabe Makoto is awaiting for your criticizes. I tried to work on my setups. The second round was pure crap by me. I got hit by every single tatsumaki :frowning: How may i punish them effectivly ? I saw that you can clp, dash crossover. I am unable to detect when it’s a long or a short tatsumaki, therefore a chp seems risky.

  • Stop with the mid-screen or further FA, backdash. That’s a really, really, really bad habit to just do randomly, unless it’s match-up specific or off a read.
  • Don’t use c.HP whenever the opponent is in range. Lots of new Makotos use this move a lot, I’m not sure why, it’s unsafe and slow.
  • Stop jumping in with Tsurugi … there’s no reason to do it … and every reason not to.
  • Stop always crossing up with f+HK on knockdown. That’s okay once in a while, really good on charge characters, but man, you give up lots of mix-ups just to try to mess with inputs and reflexes.
  • There are lots of ways to get in, you’re not using enough of them. Dash up mix-ups (there are a lot of these), buffer poking, AAing into mix-ups, IA HK Tsurugi, and f+MP are by far the most prevalent of these. Use f+MP A LOT more, trust me, the move’s good, and people get nervous and want to jump at you while you’re doing it. Luckily for you, the hitbox is so good on f+MP you can sort of spam it at range and just hold forward, looking for a jump, then bam, Fukiage into 328 damage.
  • You “should” (it worked, so whatever, but …) have let off when that dude was getting hit over and over on wake-up. A shit ton of people, good players included, will Ultra or try something when times are so desperate. I’d have mashed DP FADC, that’s for sure. Be careful, you went from bait to 100% attacking and you never let go, something that won’t work often.
  • You did the right punish (FA3, MK Tsurugi), but you should s.HP after. You know it’s gonna hit, and you’re point blank, so go for the best you can. In that situation, ending in FA3, MK Tsurugi, c.HP would probably have been better, you get a good knockdown with similar damage for no meter.

So, I’d like you to do these things for a while: no FAs without a purpose, start buffer poking with c.MP/s.MP/c.LK (with meter), use f+MP a lot more, use EX Oroshi less, don’t use f+HK at all, and no Tsurugis off of jump-ins. I want to see your AA game, your block strings, and your mind games in your next video.

Thank you very much.

Cany anyone clarify what is happening at around 13:16? It looks like he is st.lk whiff cancel to backdash? I didn’t even know that was possible.

yeah, really what was that?

Kindevu’s Makoto versus Filipino champ’s Seth

time for more “amateur night” videos!!

Both are mere curiosities
The first is super Mak vs Darth Vader (just cause its funny)
and the second is the use of Ultra 2 to escape a point blank demon (which I had thought was unescapable)

Yeah, the demon is actually vulnerable a little after start-up. I once accidentally used HK (meaty) to stop it. When I saw the demon, I though “I am so dead”, but nope.
