Her command throw just DOESN’T work like it used to in 3’s no matter what you try…
Everyone since the dawn of SF4 has been mashing option select throws during block strings so if you try to mix it up with a karakusa in between strings it will always lose to a throw and Makoto’s stamina is too low and her damage/stun is unproportionately low compared to the risk she has to take.

if only ex oroshi didn’t lose to throws. i don’t get why ex oroshi is not immune to throw attempts.
same with juri’s ex pinwheel. so far, things aren’t looking too good for makoto and juri.
So I got my ass handed to me by Honda every time I fought him. Is there a good move for stuffing his headbutt or should I just block/jump over it?
I think you can EX hayate punish honda’s headbutt - if u hit him in corner - u can reset by F+lk and kara / dash under kara for mixup.
I still think she has potential (probably being stubborn) but I think most of her tourney wins will be 100% flawless game play with her dash and spacing and just being patient. You have to LITERALLY be in the right spot given what ever AA you want to use.
Fukiage is 350+ damage and around 400+ stun with a KD techable but a KD none-the-less. We have to explore everything fully to completely know if this character is tourney viable or not. 3 days of trying all the shit we’re trying isn’t enough she has a high learning curve, all of her damage isn’t laid out for us and we’re gonna have to find it the hard way.
I think since SSF4 isn’t a new game/system there isn’t big discoveries as there was before,
and with frame data and most glitch knowledge up, there’s not much left to find out outside of hitboxes (stmp is great but that’s not gonna pull her through everything, let alone shoto’s)
so it’s like, as far as our knowledge goes of her right now, she has some really good stuff, but that good stuff is about as big in quantity as a grain of salt, and is situational as getting super each match with her meter-building abilities (some characters will be able to punish her meter-building abilities, like cammy’s spiral arrow and bisons scissor kick)

I feel the same way but I’m going to keep exploring how to fight with her. She still has the power it’s just so damn hard compared to how easy some of the cast has it. I think the main problem is what happens in a tourney and you only have 2 games. . .you can’t train someone to be afraid of karakusa unless they already fear it in general or fear you. The hardest thing is gonna be learning to win without Kara until you are 95% sure someone is gonna sit still to let you get it off. I lose so many matches for ATTEMPTING to kara someone cause they are always trying to get out.
Give it time and maybe we’ll figure out how to fight with her.
FYI she’s the only reason I even bought this damn game so I’m not giving up on her in 3 days haha!

i just dont know its depressin i love her so much
the best i’ve come up with so far is:
stand outside/around mp range dependant on matchup (ball park)
use her array of pokes ; ur options are as big as they them, since a lot of her command normals and shit aren’t that good or are too slow < jab
stmp great, smk fine AA but it doesn’t really mean she’s going to be doing anything other than that with it, and they know when they’re jumping in it’s range cause you can’t manuever yourself fast enough
but uh b4 i rant again, basically just the last cave unpolished is discovering her poke potential, basically in theory at best,
makoto’s game plan will be for almost every match:
generally have play camp/reactionary since you can’t chase down, and if u do you must spend meter which ur ex moves such as we all know by now, and ex cancel hayate to get in isn’t worth it either cause by that point ur 2 from a super
utilizing spacing/poking will be your only viable way to get any shred of meter, eventually having super once every two ish rounds if they dont brake your defense-esque style
TL;DR: strongest use so far = a turtle-ish poke-game, in which is her best and only way to viably gain meter, for super
once you have super, things can change (vague area), but then no matter what it’s back to the start next round with building super (if u needed it last one)
loses to: zoners - you can’t get in/you have to spend ex to get in/stay in, meaning no super meaning gg
hey guys. I was browsing the Dee Jay thread and I found one of the earlier posts in the matchup thread. I think this is a good idea for us to try out. but if you’re all against it, it’s fine.
So, in case if any of us has a bigger access to players who play all the characters, we can get some sort of groundwork for the matchups and we wont have to worry about not finding information on a character in the next month or so.
I’m getting zoned like a motherfucker by Guile. Any suggestions?
I’m kind of surprised that I’m having as much fun with Makoto as I’ve been having considering I loathed in 3S. I’ve been playing for eight hours, which is probably why I’m starting to even worse than I was before. Still, I’m having fun getting my ass kicked and I don’t see what everyone’s so mopey about already.
Only problem I’ve been having with her so far after “adjusting” is getting crossed-up for relatively “free” if I do anything other than Focus Attack --> Dash Forward.
Then again, I kind of suck against Ryu’s solid abilities. That said, I’m more worried about Dudley and Boxer than him when it comes to Makoto.

Not an expert or anything, but I did manage to beat a Guile twice after he whooped me.
I basically stopped jumping unless it was to avoid EX Sonic Boom. Same with using Tsurugi, since Guile is probably only character in the entire game with a (horizontal) projectile that IA RK Tsurugi doesn’t work on.
I mainly tried to outpoke him with c.mp, f.mp and f.hp (only one HP) when I wasn’t crossing him-up. I think that Oroshi is probably her best move in this fight if you can make them hesitant to throw you; you should be really prepared to break their throws anyway. Since it hits overhead and Guile players are usually crouching when they aren’t advancing behind a Sonic Boom…yeah. Just don’t do too much or he might (EX) Flash Kick you, though since he’s crouching, you should be trying to grab with Karakusa as well anyway.
Just be patient and be thankful that he has to at least charge his “get out of pressure free” ability unlike the Shotos. (Ugh, if I heard “Shoryuken!” one more time.)
I’m still having trouble with dealing people who are fond of jumping on top of me. Even with the few times that LP Fukiage works, it’s rather difficult to capitalize with Tsurugi.

As far as offline players are concerned, I have a friend who lives down the street and plays a decent Cammy and is learning Ibuki.
I also have another friend who plays a decent Ryu, Akuma, and, by default, a decent Ken.
I can try and take these match ups and experiment with them.
Ughh a decently played Dudley destroys me everytime. But then again, it might just be the fact i suck with makoto. Anybody got tips against dudley? Another note, i did a karakusa,hp,ex hayate, FADC, dash into F.lk(reset), karakusa, hp, ex hayate and they died there. They proceeded to send me a msg saying that all of it was bullshit…yay for hatemail?
