welcome to street fighter iv
Hayate cancel only work against very defensive player for me. Maybe it’s a mistake but i stopped to use it. At a high level, when people really know how to play safe, it could be a way to mixup but not with people always buffering their move during the block animation whatever happen after.
Same with the Hayate FADC to karasuka.
normal move Hayate cancel make you lose some frame advantage (except on HP), so yeah it’s work only VS defensive players. If you know they will throw, then it’s time to tsurugi.
if opponent starts to mash light after stMP -> hayate cancel. Simply do:
st.MP -> hayate cancel -> EX oroshi
oh, and dont do stMP -> Hayate cancel when you’re too close. They can throw you
If Rufus does Ultra 2, these are some things you can do to avoid/mitigate the chip damage.
You have to judge the distance between him and you, and pick the appropriate response based on what’s available to you.
If you have Ultra 2, you can hit him with a variety of versions and timings based on where he is on the screen. I suggest practicing it before trying it, here are some options:
[]If you were cornered, LK hits him.
[]If you were midscreen, HK hits him if you use it immediately, but seems to trade often if your timing is late.
[]If you are knocked down or can’t reversal U2 for some reason, MK Abare seems more reliable than HK when done late.
[]Super-> MK Abare also can work.
If you have Ultra 1, and you were right on top of him, you can of course just reversal U1. If he activated at a further range, you can do a delayed U1 but it’s very risky based on range. One thing that can work is Super -> U1 to extend your invulnerability period while he moves closer to you. If you were at a distance where Super -> U1 will whiff, you can usually do jump-back -> U1.
If you don’t have ultra, you do still have some worthwhile options. If he activates at point blank range, do a reversal backdash. You’ll take 1 hit and get knocked down, less damage than if you blocked the whole thing. Then do a reversal backdash when you wake up to avoid the final hit. From there, you have enough time to do whatever punish you want. For example, you can do j.HK, s.HP xx Hayate xx Super, Ultra 1, which may be worthwhile since it does more damage than straight up reversal super -> ultra 1, if you can afford to take the 1 hit for knockdown.
If he activated at a little further than point blank range, you can immediately do a f+HK. You will take 1 hit and get knocked down, just like the above. Backdash when you wake up as usual. It works from a decent distance, maybe around s.MK range?
And if you are even further than that, you can hold neutral jump after the ultra flash and do a HK/EX Tsurugi on the way down. This will hit him cleanly out of his U2 if you time it properly, or trade favorably (damage-wise) if timed wrong. MK Tsurugi can work too, but it’s not recommended because you can’t follow up since you were so high up.
There is a distance between F+HK and neutral jump Tsurugi where neither response will work. In that case you can always jump back and block in time. If you don’t have super/ultra I can’t find anything else that helps you avoid damage at this particular range, but it’s okay because the block damage after you jump back is fairly low, a little higher than you take for the F+HK option.

Do most things on this video hold true for Makoto? He’s a pain to fight, so I’m researching him as much as I can.
Dunno if it is old news but, I was really fucking around one match and managed to trade fukiage with Ryu’s shoryuken multiple times in the same match. I wasn’t purposefully looking for it, it just happened to happen a couple of times in the same match.
vs dictator,
I was having sucess baiting out reversal ex crushers with a simple karakusa. I don’t think it’s throw invincible on startup… it won’t beat out ex scissorkick and you’ll still be in recovery so an ex headstomp will still floor you but it’s there…
so say… sweep->dash meaty st. MP (he ex crushers) you input the karakusa between two st. MP’s and if he does the ex crusher, your st. MP should whiff and the karakusa should grab it, if he doesn’t, the other st. mp should come out after he blocks the first…
I was also having the same kind of sucess vs. boxer’s dash punch stuff… I’ll sit around and troll with whiffed st. mp’s and be inputting karakusa and if I see him doing his shit, you can choke a bitch.
Also, all of his and dictators reversals move them forward, so meatying a near-instant mk tsurugi should still be blocked if he doesn’t decide to reversal, andthing else you will go over and have time to dash at them in their recovery.
Karakusa seems to like to grab limbs and shit … Maybe we should start looking at how to use defensive non-ex karakusa…
against rufus, option select techthrow+crMK works very well after a dive kick
1LK+LP+MK
If rufus does another dive kick, he gets hit by crMK.
If he throws, makoto tech throws
If he does any normal move, makoto will guard
oh, be sure to delay a beat the option select. Or you can hit by a normal move.
Not too earlier to not be countered and not too late to be able to tech throw
^^ good shit, v-ryu.
Can I have some tips against Cammy and Zangief(I don’t know if its spelled right or not).
Yea this is what I have been doing but my timing is still off x_x
Dis shit is hard to do. Im been trying to get the timing down. Is there a certain way u supposed to do it?
Ok, as of right now with me anyway Rufus is just a silly hard match up. I feel I have to play the PERFECT guessing game of my life to even compete with that monster. Even with the OS which was a great help still isn’t enough because he can just alter the jump angle so well. Unless my timing is off and it’s supposed to hit him if he just jumps in general then this is my fault but I played with it for a while in training mode.
Rufus is quite beatable though don’t get me wrong just you can’t get ahead of yourself when fighting against him. You scored a knockdown you can’t sit around trying to bait EX Messiah all day because in this match up I feel the only thing that can control him is the ability to stun him and do big damage quick.
Thus far I have tried to go through a bunch of scenarios that warrant him to not do EX Messiah and there is nothing that beats it clean or evades it consistently. Though off of c.FP if you get this god like timing on jumping (NOT INSTANT) EX Tsurugi you will knock him out of EX Messiah. Off of the same set up a delayed back dash into lp Fukiage will hit him out of EX Messiah as he’s coming towards you for a combo as well. These are both options that have to be scouted really well though as it’s hard to react to it and you kind of just have to go all in (maybe in the future with a lot of practice).
Other than that though it’s a normal hard match for me, just have to be careful once I get knocked down and block/tech very well. So far I’m finding that I have to bait people into trying to throw me a lot as it’s the only way to open up your game. Once you get people saying to themselves “Ok tick throw is powerful against this guy I’ll do it all day” you can make a pretty good run and fast.
If you take 2-3 throws depending on how much meter you have you will make that back up really quick. Probably with a knockdown or putting them into the corner enabling you to do what you please. I don’t see many videos of other Makoto players because it’s pretty rare so I basically just come up with mix ups in my head and certain situations that can net me some damage and/or a knockdown.
I call these type of match ups “Kill or be Killed” in this match up, play your game not the other player.
Ninjacw found this out last night about ex messiah; Can make rufus ex messiah last hits whiff on block: just cr block closest range (no lights), makoto must walk a little closer after dash cause of dist leaves her.
I don’t remember that x_x but I did notice it before. Thought it was a fluke honestly haha. That helps out that match a little more now since I now have a mix up against him on wake up other than him doing it for free with no consequence.
Are you referring to getting an ex messiah off and FADCing out of it, or just doing it with only 1 bar. Against Rufus i would meaty s.LP against Rufus on wakeup to bait out Ex-Messiah since the attack recovers before ex-messiah reversal hits, have you tried this or do you regard it as too risky to meaty it?
And for Candeisis what do you mean by walk a little closer after dash?
Dictator’s wakeup is easy to beat for any character. All you do is walkup and light punch chain, or s.LP if you’re confident and you’ll recover before he attacks just like what i said before about rufus ex-messiah, but Dictator is even easier to beat than ex-messiah. If it’s a headstomp you just walk forward if you notice the ex-headstomp and punish.
Edit: and you stop after one attack once he wakes up btw, you don’t keep on chaining it or do another s.LP of course.
He means after you dash up just walk a bit closer because you’re not fully next to them. Yea I will put a meaty c.lp out there because it does recover fast enough. I wish i could do a meaty s.mp and could recover fast enough. Not sure on the frames but I’ll at least give it a shot -_-
