Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

EX Karakusa has trash range and can EASILY be out-ranged by most jabs.

The only advice I can give regarding corner pressure is to pick Ultra 2 against him and use it to escape. He can probably punish it with MGB (I imagine), but I haven’t tested it yet and I’ve been safe using it thus far against other characters. Otherwise you’re fucked.

yeah, the match is probably more in my favor while i still have him outside before he starts his pressure or even better when i start mine. it’s just that once he starts it’s very frustrating, mp mgb is safe on block and leaves dudley just out of ex karakusa range…

Ah, thanks. I’ve been using MK tsurugi the whole time. Will try HK from now on.

I’ve just resorted to spamming F.MP all day against Dudley and taking the hits. If he focus attacks, he hits you, but you recover faster than he does so you can hit him again. If he blocks it, it’s still unpunishable, and if you go for it again it’s still really hard to beat unless he does an EX DP. Once he starts blocking mix in EX oroshis and Cr.HP. to mix him up into knockdown. From there the game is in your favor. You can control your range really well by mixing in Cr.MP if you start getting too close for comfort, or you can get close and risk a karakusa. Seriously I’ve had way more success with this than actually trying to fight him and zone him simply because his FP is just SO damaging you want to exclude it at all costs.

Pretty sure you can punish a normal headbut with ex hayate

I’ll ask again cause it wasn’t really answered (or I missed it.) What are her options against Guy? seems like everything the poor girl does gets beat by either cr.MP or some other junk.

just fyi all headbutts have different recovery. fierce has the most, jab has less. ex has the least.

cr.MK beats elbow drops clean. Free reset off of that. s.lk > mk vs his FA. Haven’t played against many Guy(s), but from what I feel, just do the typical Makoto stuff against him. As usual, you don’t wanna jump too much or you’re going to eat an air grab(ton of damage and knock down, not healthy at all).

EX Hayate comes out in 16 frames.

Headbutt disadvantages:
lp: -9
mp: -13
hp: -16
EX: -8

Something you can play with against Honda - and be aware that this is a gimmick and is absolutely not safe - is dashing in and blocking/OS teching after a blocked headbutt (if you don’t have meter to punish, or aren’t sure if he used MP or HP). Honda is at a frame advantage if you dash in on him like this (haven’t tested how significant with the different strengths), so you’re basically putting yourself into his mixup if he can react immediately. It does get you right up on him, though, which is IMO worth a risk now and again given how hard it can be to get in on a Honda that’s trying to zone you out.

Feeling pretty good about the Balrog matchup.

f+fp completely destroys his dash punches except the ex ones. os c.mp -> ex oroshi handles most of his ex punches.

The only thing he has that beats out your meaty attacks is ex headbutt.

Without his dash punches, he’s gonna have a really hard time getting in on Mak, and when Mak knocks him down, he’s basically free.

'course, when he does get rolling, that’s not good for Mak either. But atm I’m thinking that it’s worse for him when she gets rolling. His jabs are also a problem, but otherwise, I’m thinking that if Mak’s gonna have any matches in her favor, the Balrog match could be a contender.

you’re gonna get ochio thrown if you do this, lol.

balrog has a terrible wakeup game vs anyone with a move that hits low, no big surprises there. at least he can ex dash straight on wakeup if you throw out an obvious meaty.

how are you using f+hp to deal with dash punches? it’s really slow so you obviously aren’t doing it on reaction to dash straights, are you just throwing it out there at just inside of max dash straight range to discourage them? aren’t you getting counterpoked with dash straight or s.hk? inquiring minds want to know!

the other thing that balrog has in this matchup is this little gem … http://otersi.com/00_interesting_frames/balrog_jhk.png . oh, and a monstrous footsie game, haha.

This is EX Fukiage’s time to shine.

Like I said, it’s completely unsafe. Assuming a smart Honda, you’re basically putting yourself into a 50-50. If you think he’s going for Ochio, you can NJ or tsurugi (and then get nailed by the EX headbutt he’s charged for). It sucks, yeah, but it’s an ugly matchup anyway.

or Ultra 1

Has anyone been able to consistently beat dictator?

I have been having problems dealing with his scissor kick traps. Sometimes they’ll screw up and I can fit a c.lk xx lp hayate in, but since the lp hayate leaves us at even frames, I often get put back into the scissors trap.

I read that s.mp should counter most of his options but I was getting countered with ex scissor when I tried. That’s probably just tough luck but is there any other options I can use? I was thinking of using ex oroshi but normally they are just out of range unless they went for the scissors again.

Also, I was wondering how everyone is doing with hitting headstomps with fukiage. I’ve been too afraid to fukiage and just blocking instead. Is that what is going to be the tide turner in this match up?

Boxer I feel pretty comfortable fighting him, here’s why for me:

Basically on wake up his best options are back dash, headbutt, block when I fight him. He should NOT be doing any type of wake up EX dashpunches of any sort because you can just karakusa him on wake up for using that tactic. FK Tsurugi beats back dash and jump I forget the timing sorry.

I find that a lot of people love to back dash on wake up or do a reversal once you take away that backdash and people actually start to sit still is when the magic happens

I’ve found that on either my wake up or the opponents wake up, people like to jump straight up to bait Karakusa. I eventually caught on to it and started throwing out MP Fukiage, or sometimes U1 if I have it. Helps keep them grounded.

Has anyone tried using EX orochi or whatever her overhead is as an antiair? i’ve had moderate success with it and its great for getting a knockdown. Mainly taking advantage of the invincibility frames on it although its not many.

I do it at times just to keep the person in check. But most of the time i’ll just AA with something else or block those type of jump ins.

Current worst match ups:

Bison
Abel
Rufus

I have almost no solutions to any important parts of those first two match ups. EX karakusa never seems to reach bison. Tsurugi seems to be a good idea for Abel but, I still feel like I’m squirming for anything at all in that fight.

bison has a really fast walkspeed, so that might be why. ibuki can walk backwards out of karakusa if you try for it after a dash.
