Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

Ash (or anyone) have you guys been using cr.jab against Balrog’s wakeup? I believe it stuffs/interrupts headbutt as well. I’ve yet to eat a headbutt when I simply spam it. I really need to test it though to be sure. Maybe EX headbutt works?

Makes sense that it would stuff all of his wakeup options, since I know you can do the same thing with Viper’s c.lk. ex headbutt hits it tho.

Ex karakusa does not absorb two jabs from boxer fyi, and cr jab gets hit by headbutt, stick to the list that dude made of meaties that avoid it c.lk, c.mp, c.hp.

She has good offensive options, especially once you get her momentum going, but I actually turtle at times in certain matchups. I’ll spend all day IA tsuruging over projectiles if I have a lifelead or it’s a tie. I just watch for them when they move in or do something like a Hadouken FADC followup. Or if it’s Guile, he just walks forward for free and the game of getting in begins.

Ironically, she has great pokes and is slightly like 3S Chun if you sit on that Super meter. Only rushdown is a good option now. Although on wakeup you’re best off just blocking. It sort of sucks, but you have to block sometimes. Besides, SSFIV has safejumps all day so might as well get used to blocking and teching.

against honda, like was stated before you can S.mp headbutt. You can also block the Fierce headbutt and punish with EX hayate. Other hayates are either out of range or too slow. His Mp and Lp headbutts recover too fast. It is also not possible to punish FP headbutt with U2

Somethin Im playin with…between her j. hp and j. mk her jump-ins are lookin quite ambiguous if you vary the timing on the j. hp, especially in the corner. Gonna try it out this week during casuals.

Only Ex headbutt is invulnerable, you have no fear against balrog’s wakeup unless he has an ex-meter, same with Dudley, only Ex DP is invulnerable. I generally meaty with S.LP to bait out ex headbutts and slower ultras like metsu Hadouken, Makoto’s U2 etc, C.LP while chainable has a fraction longer recovery so it can’t stuff up as many things, except ex armor.

can you punish Fierce Headbutt with HP KaraHayate? Just curious on that.

well, hp headbutt is -16f on block. hp hayate hits in 20f. kind of doubt it.

No, the range isn’t the problem. It’s just too slow. That is unless Kara speeds it up, but that’s just silly.

In the Viper matchup, it should be added that Makato’s dash goes under Viper’s overhead and Burn Kick.

I’m not sure I think Makoto is low tier anymore.

shhh…you’re going to ruin the surprise =)

the surprise every mak player knows about since day one.

fuck a tier list!!

True talk.

the more i play her, the more i’m wondering if keeping 4 EX to use her ultra is not better than using EX moves for guessing game.

I like that Makoto is labeled as low tier. It keeps the tierwhores out and cuts a lot of the bullshit out.

i haven’t got much experience with makoto yet but i burn meter faster than i do money on a night out, i can’t remember the last time i saved up enough ex to do the supercancel.

Honestly I burn meter like crazy against more skilled opponents. It’s rare that I actually have enough for super. EX Oroshi is a huge fucking crutch for me right now. With that being said I’ve yet to take advantage of whiffing specials when my opponent decides to sit across the screen. Jab Oroshi builds a good amount of meter on whiff.

I usually use lp fukiage or Instant tsurugis to build meter. Does Oroshi actually build more meter?

move/total frames/meter gain on whiff
lp fukiage/46/30
early lp tsurugi/36/10
any non-EX oroshi/43/30
lp hayate/35/20

At least according to current srk wiki data…

Edit: Added lp hayate
