Makoto Strategy and Match-ups

Toughts on the MU vs Hugo?
Getting in on him feels really rough from my short time playing vs him. He has a good anti air and pokes that seem to contest/trade with a lot of Makoto’s pokes.

Thoughts on the Poison matchup? I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

any advice on the poison matchup she is a real pain in the ass to deal with

Yeah she’s very annoying.
Good keep away game, hard to navigate the fireball game, decent mix ups and air to air options.

Any advice against the new Guy ?
I’m getting murdered by the improved run stop stMP stHP target combo, It seems stMP can’t counterpôke it at all

I’d asked some questions a few weeks back. Now that the game has been out a good while, was just wondering if you guys had some practical input:

  1. For which match-ups have you tried Ultra Combo W? Has it worked out?

  2. Going off Eventscrubs “tier list”, they have her match-ups listed as such:

Good (5.5 or higher): Dhalsim, Fuerte, Gouken, Decapre, Blanka, Rolento
Bad (4.5 or less): Hugo, Ryu, Adon, C Viper, Ibuki, Hakan, Juri, Evil Ryu, Yang, Chun-Li, M Bison, Yun, Rose, Fei Long, Ken, T Hawk, Cammy, Guile, Zangief, Rufus, Balrog
(everyone else is neutral)

Thoughts? I definitely have some disagreements with the bad section. Ryu, Adon, Viper, Ibuki, Yang, Yun, Rose, Fei, Ken, and Cammy should all be neutral, 5-5. Hakan also isn’t nearly as bad as the other grapplers.

I use W ultra in the mirror match U2 shuts down backdash on reaction. Good against shotos to dissuade fireballs other than that I go ultra 2 with red focus for characters with 1000 stamina it’s higher, the damage is better than nerfed U1.

Rolento I would put as even his mobility and air normals are good. Mak just has an edge in the damage department. She has a lot more even matchups now because with meter the risk/reward game is heavily in her favor.

Can we still focus dash + ex grab through Ryu’s cr.mk + fireball?

I got blown up earlier trying to do it. If so it’s gonna make the fireball ground game unbelievably more annoying.

I’m also having LOADS of trouble with Poison’s fireballs still. WTF is up with them?

Poison fireball is weird, it’s erither very tall or very fast and it was really quick recovery.
I don’t know exactly what to do against it yet either.

with the exception of hugo, I fell like all the new characters have some unbalanced stuff. I especially hate the fact that they all have some type of safe ex special move that leads to ultra and breaks focus. I mean it’s stupid!!!

Wekll, Hugo has some pretty silly tools too, EX backbreaker, stHP, kara EX Ultra throw, etc…
He’s just a bit complicated so bad Hugo look awful. :stuck_out_tongue:

well then I stand corrected! they all have some stupid shit!

just factor in the nerfs (most noteably, the tsurigi and U2 nerf) and the fuki buff and it’s almost all relevant (referring to rindoukan bible)

Almost all of it.
EX Fuki stuff is still being figured out, and the nerfs are pretty straight foirward so.

C. Viper, kind of like makoto without the nerfs!

that’s a lot of stun and damage for one bar and no reset at 30s mark!

Viper is fun, she’s a stun machine in the corner like us, but that’s kind of the end of the comparison.

I think they’re pretty similar!
her ex siesmo has similar properties to ex oroshi in that they can both be thrown and have limited invincibility frames. her burn kick kinda work like tsurigis and can lead to big damage just like tsurigi (the inputs are even similar). her faints are kinda like hayate cancels just easier, and now they both have a dp that hits grounded and leads to all sorts of stuff. the big difference is the karakusa imo!

I dunno, I play both, and they have a really distinct style in my opinion.
Their normal move set is so different, they have a radically different approach up close. She plays a zoning game a lot more than you’d think.
Trying to play Viper the same as Mak got me killed a lot at the beginning.

What is the general consensus on Makoto though? I like the new fuki stuff and I think it’s really fun, but for some reason it never deals as much damage as I hoped it would.
