I think at the arcs that don’t leave the jf.hk right over your head, you can actually beat it with cr.mk. I’ve had some success with it. Don’t feel like it’s worth the bet sometimes since they go for a full combo if you miss.

How do you guys approach the mirror match?
Need some tips on how to “control” opposing Makoto players and make the matchup less frantic. As of now the main thing I do is avoid dashing up and throw out long active hitboxes like c.MP and s.HK to catch their dashes… that’s about it
tbh if i know a mirror ia coming i counter pick with cammy 
if one sneaks up on me though i keep my distance until a knockdown.
I love the mirror. It’s pure chaos and madness and I strive in that kind of games. Kinda hard to give advice about plaing it tho.
Just be fast. Don’t let the other Makoto know where you are going to be on the screen. Don’t let yourself get read.
As far as specific punish, you can Ultra1 all version of hayate on block.

It depends on the level of player you’re dealing with, if you’re playing online just os backdash from a knockdown and repeat.
Anyone here know their way around Akuma matchup? I played a Makoto tonight and I had absolutely no good strategies against her. Any one care to shed some light on this one?
Just work on your keep away game and watch out for her dashes.
I’m not 100% sure but I think Makoto is one of the character that can’t crouch under the second hit of your far sHK, that tool can be pretty good.
Other than that, I don’t really know what specifics you would want to know…
Don’t be greedy with demon flip setups if you don’t want to get Fukiage in the face, punish mistakes as much as you can, remember that you can’t sweep her after tatsu, don’t throw unsafe fireballs when she has U2 loaded, etc
I just realized when doing some research to answer this that we have almost no recent matches between high level akumas and makoto. Atleast from Japan.
To be honest akuma vs. Makoto is a very funny matchup its slightly in akumas favor. The burst damage allows her to keep him on his toes especially badly spaced fireballs( ex hayate punish\u2). F.HK the move every akuma haunts makoto with, its good against her but becareful her standing mp beats it preemptively. The knockdown game is in his favor heavily so make the sweep and air fireballs be your threat that leads to knockdown scare her from approaching. As the makoto player they will most likely be looking for a random HK tsurugi,sweep, jump HP, exhayate, and u2 punish to get the ball rolling. Makoto is hoping you position yourself wrong so she can go nuts. That’s my two cents hope it helps.
Youre 100% right about that. I looked for Infiltration but only videos I found he played Hakan against Haitani, Tokido has a few against some upper-mid level Maks but he played the matchup kind of how I figured.
I just wanted to hear from some actual Mak players and see what it is they’re looking for to get in and some of the tech they have in this MU because there isn’t a single decent Mak player in FL and getting blown up because of MU inexepierence doesnt feel too good.
Infiltration actually believe Makoto is a bad match for Akuma, and he will often play Ryu against her. Or Hakan I guess.
What would be really cool would be to get a set between Tokido and Haitani. We will have to wait for next Topanga league B I guess, since they’re both in it.

Re: ibuki.
This character is problematic, and most of the reasons seem to boil down to her cr mp. It’s active for what, seven frames? And it just stuffs most ways of getting in. However, cr lk from Makoto is pretty invaluable. You empty jump instead of whiff a normal jumping over her for unblockable and unfortunately she also gets to crouch and whiff punish Her corner unblockable is pretty unreliable vs Makoto, though, as while Makoto can’t block, you can just simple jump out of the crossup in any direction, which they can option select with the DP but if you jump forwards or backwards it messes up the timing. Running away seems strong, because Ibuki wants to be just within slide range, and Makoto punishes slide well w/ cr lk /cr hp / sthk / tsurugi / oroshi. Neutral meter gain is hard. Spin kicks stuff cr mp and outrange cr lk but can be st mp’d. After blocking EX DP, dash forward and react to wether kunai are thrown. Also be wary, Ibuki can U1 blocked tsurugis. Mix up the angles of Tsurugi so you can circumvent anti airs to the point that they straight up let you chip them out. Third spin kick can be FADC’d through to karakusa. Yamase is strong. U1 will not catch Ibuki during backdash. Crossup mk gets fukiaged.
Have you played the new Ibuki? Rhys was telling me that shes completely ruined as a character. Idk if I’m going to judge that quickly. They said the same thing about Cammy.
