Greetings fellow sumo wrestlers! Ever since AE, I’ve been having a lot of trouble with the Makoto matchup, specifically her command throw. Any tips on how to avoid this or on the matchup in general would be much appreciated!

jump?

apparently spamming neutral jump jab owns her

No shit. I’m looking for any advice on how to see the throw coming, common habits Makotos have, option selects, etc. If there’s no way around this besides doing my best to predict it, fine. In that case, any general advice would be much appreciated.

Since it have shit range, the throw is always done after a dash. The mix up that good makotos online do is dash and then use that two fists punches for punishing jumps so they try to make you scared of jumping, once they they get meter they will go for the grab -> ultra.

Throwing fast pokes when you are at dash range works well. Don’t use often hk or hp because she can jump in and punish it hard, only use hp for bad jumps. Ex headbutt beats anything after the dash and same with lk slam. ALWAYS jump if she dash with the ultra ready and you have not charge, is better to eat some punches than the ultra.

In few words, Hold down back.

Edit: The grammar was a mess.

Truth. But he also forgot to mention jumping (even wiffing normals really like ochio from full screen) leads to Abare Tosanami (Ultra 2) which is surprisingly good. Good enough to make you stay on the ground once you’ve been hit with it (and the combo after it) enough.

Best advice is to stay out of that situation by always having an EX headbutt at your disposal and keeping her at arms length with a good poke like standing medium or cr. jab. Watch for backdashes and be ready to punish cuz Makotos do that often. Butt slam to get out of pressure but don’t get predictable about it. Thats all I’ve got.

First Post lol
Neutral Jump, Fierce drift backwards. She’ll try to cross you up if she sees this coming with forward-RH, but if you drift properly, this should get rid of that issue.

Also, oddly enough, standing RH will keep her at bay as well,as long as you can assure she’ll approach you on foot. Does a lot of Damage too…

If she’s flying through the air though, I got trouble, her air Fierce just blows me up when I dont have meter and even if I block, I cant handle the block strings after… + kara karakusa… I’ve tried St. Fierce but I’m not getting the trade i want, plus EX kick thing beats it all out… Ideas?

I haven’t tried it against Makoto but I use j.short to beat Seth’s j.fierce which has similar priority to Makoto’s. From my experience, j.short is very good because of its high priority and huge hitbox
