Personally, I’ve had a really hard time settling on a main. Right now I’m sticking with Birdie because playing Dudley in SFIV made me really rely on strong normals and using special moves to catch opponents off-guard (I may or may not have been playing Dudley the wrong way, it was my first Street Fighter). Birdie’s the closest I’ve gotten to feeling comfortable with that in SFV, but even then it’s rough dealing with how…ponderous he is. Amazing damage and the V-System is fun, though. ^^
I really haven’t settled into a proper main, though. I think the devs have done a spectacular job of designing and in some cases re-imagining the fighters, and they’re really really interesting from a playstyle and presentation standpoint…but none of them really leap out and say “Oi! Main me!”, yet. I’m really curious to see what happens with the DLC characters…Alex was very faithful to his 3s incarnation from what I’ve gathered, and it sounds like Guile is going to be a case of iterative change rather than a huge overhaul like Nash or Vega. I’m really curious to see what happens with Balrog - I believe the devs have said he’s going to be different from before. After SFV I like aggro boxing - if he ends up going hybrid or motion I’ll really have to try him!
But yeah, donuts for now. Really cool to hear why people like their mains in this thread. =)

Why: His forward dash is one of the best things I’ve ever seen in a fighting game. He’s probably not the ideal choice for a beginner like myself, but I don’t care, octo-walk 4 life.
I do need to decide on a sub that would complement Dhalsim well. Maybe someone like Cammy?
I’ve been maining Laura since beta. I played a lot of Dudley in 3S and 4, and Hinako is my favorite KoF character period. Laura seemed like the best of both worlds - crazy mixup, corner game and movement like Dudley, but also with a command throw and charging moves like Hinako’s palm strike. Amazing stuff.
I thought that I wouldn’t like FANG since his character concept was weird, but I’ve grown to like him a lot since his theme made me start looking at FANG matches more. I’m terrible at charge characters but I think I can have him at least as a secondary.
Ken in this game is badass. I feel like he’s awesome and suits me and I just haven’t put in as much time as with Laura and so I still suck with him, though.
Try Laura until Rog comes out. It was kind of enlightening for me, maybe it will be for you, too.

I plan to main Urien when he comes out. I didn’t play sf4 because Urien wasn’t in that game. So now finally I’m gonna be playing street fighter once again in my life. Aegis till I fucking die.
