Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

First off, last week. I knew the direction the episode was heading with the hot redhead, but to think Megan would resort to get a hooker for a threesome to “spice” up her marriage. Damn.

This ep. Pete is such a self-absorbed bastard I wish he could suffer some Saw~esque demise. Freaking hypocrite extraordinaire.

I knew Ginsberg had issues, but being completely schizophrenic was a surprise. Poor Peggy keeps attracting oddballs.

Don and Peggy bonding again was nice, they have a very realistic platonic relationship. I was hoping she would bring up her baby that she gave away but…

I don’t think Peggy will ever bring up that baby.

Lou is feeling very threatened with his job security. I wonder whats happening on the last episode of this midseason finale

Spoiler

RIP Bert Cooper

Lou is done for. With Don and Ted, there’s no need to bring him to McCann. But holy shit Cutler has it out for Don. That guy fucking hates his guts.

Spoiler

Sacrificing Bert to save Don, RIP :frowning:

Well didnt that episode wrap everything up super nice with a pretty bow, Don n Peggy all sweet again, Ted comming out of his coma and getting to become Bruce Wayne, Pete snapping out of being bitch made, Roger finally becomming the big boss man and ofcourse Ginger Tits going from c*nt to happy miss daisy cause money got tossed at her.

S8 gonna be a super McKenn villian arc? I honestly dont know why they cut out all the drama, and yea fight me Sally Draper will be going in the dirty old man thread soon, I know what you niggas were all thinking about.

Why was Ted acting like that again? Because of Peggy or something right? Joan’s been terrible all season

He went to LA to avoid Peggy and try and save his marriage but lately hes just been kinda dying away, probably cause Pete is going nuts and LA is shite. Probably the isolation and the fact (as Don exactly puts it) he wants to be in creative and not be arsed with the business side. Dunno if I missed anything else.

I think Ted is still upset about Ocean Spray. Motherfucker needs to learn to let go.

Joan is unhappy because she’s losing her luster and wants to finally get a real relationship. Ted is unhappy for multiple reasons, namely his move to L.A.

Sally Draper’s actress is being forced to grow up way too fast for what the show is asking for, she’s like 14 IRL and they’re making it like she a rebellious high school senior. Oh well, that’s Hollywood I guess…

One thing I have noticed is that anytime the story arc is centered on a female character, Matt Weiner gets female co-writer to help bring some perspective, that’s smart.

Tim Gunn’s dad, is such a sneaky underhanded wimp, he couldn’t even show the slightest decency after Cooper’s sudden passing… who I didn’t necessarily care for anyways, but still…

Peggy getting that “Draper” moment with Burger Chef was very nice. Her character really shined this ep.

it’s not rare that i agree with @RockBogart‌ when it comes to mad men, but that was def a major theme of the episode. the hate that joan has for don makes no sense considering he’s the only one that fought against forcing her to whore herself to the jaguar dealer and has generally been the main person to actually treat her decently.

and don’t get me started on megan!

He didn’t prevent her from doing shit. Joan chose to sleep with that guy for her own personal gain. She negotiated the partnership because they needed the car association’s money. For sure it’s awful the way she treats Don now, but she’s right. Now that she has a stake as a partner, and had to give up her body to get it, she’s not going to sit idly by while he loses his mind and costs the firm money. If they had landed Hershey’s they would have been worth a whole lot more than they are now.

he didn’t prevent her, but he was the only one that actually was with her on the side of “umm, this guy’s a creep, are you fucking serious?!”, rather than everyone else who was telling her to take it for the team even though she obviously didn’t want to.

as far as hershey goes, i doubt it. according the economics of the show, the only things that matter are cars and cigarettes, remember they had vicks, heineken, kleenex, etc… and the only that mattered was lucky strike.

and they lost lucky strike cause Sal wouldnt take one for the team  oh that sexism. Then they were in a ton of shit for ages.

They make a big deal of losing Hershey’s at the end of season six because the money the company would bring in was over seven-figures–not including all of the other candy lines they would have had a chance to advertise for. And when Joan mentions the loss of money, it was a direct reference to his meltdown at the Hershey’s pitch. Hell, it’s a central point in the entire first half of season seven.

all of season 6 was a meltdown for don, the hershey incident was just the final straw. at one point, cooper even tells him that he’s been fucking up and it’s time to get back to business, which he doesn’t (that actually might’ve been season 5). i’m pretty sure joan blamed him for losing jaguar, since she seemed pretty upset about that…regardless, it’s like cooper told roger, she should’ve fell in line with the team!

Hey guys, long time no see (mostly the cancer), but I just wanted to drop in and say that this season started off a little rocky, but holy shit did I love how it ended. Joan hates Don for many reasons, costing them Jaguar which she whored herself for, costing her lots of money if the company went public, and his general cavalier attitude about the business she has a stake in. Don is a wild card. He does good things, but he also flips off the cigarette industry publicly. He costs them accounts. Don is good at what he does, but he isn’t a good guy. He’s not a team player and they run a team business. I’m sure more than a few people would trade the money he generates for the headaches he often causes.

Don is nearly out, Harrys computer is gonna take his job if it doesnt somehow manage to hospitalise the rest of the office first. Don isnt a nice guy, pretty aparent with his selfish bullshit behaviour but… he is well connected and well liked by the major clients, or at the very least gets them round to his way of thinking sans hersheys.

Joan is a bitch, bitch who got a taste of that sweet money. I dont think she dislikes Don I think she is professionally threatened by him, like she thinks she is on the fasttrack to the top and the only way to do it cleanly is to take motherfucker Don out.

Pete still GOAT.

I wouldn’t label Joan a bitch. She’s doing what she needs to ensure the future of her family. With no one else looking out for them, she’s gotta do what she’s gotta do. And after fucking a dude for compensation, she feels like she needs to make sure it’s worth it because if not she’s just another street walker. I’m sure the impact of that night still hasn’t left her.

What Don did to Big Tobacco didn’t hurt current business when he did it. Lucky Strike was already leaving them, so Don was protecting the company’s reputation.

Dafuq Joan turns down guys trying to look after her like twice a season, sure they might all be shitty choices, but she is a power trippin bitch. Hell even Ken ditched her to go to Nam because he couldnt stand her bullshit. Now if a dude leaves a big titty chick to volunteer for Vietnam, am saying shes a bitch.

She can’t turn down guys? She’s hit on every day. She isn’t obliged to blow all of them. She didn’t even immediately sleep with Herb. She had to think it over and even got a partnership stake in the company for it. It was not a puerile decision and she handled it accordingly.
