Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

I will agree, she isn’t as affectionate as she once was and there is bitterness, but it’s clear that she still loves him. Don can’t seem to get his act together, so of course their marriage is on borrowed time. He’s the root cause of all his “misfortune.”

That intro maybe foreshadowing his demise literally

eh, their relationship fell apart because she wasn’t who don thought she was. he thought she loved advertising and she hated it, then she read him the riot act about how she didn’t need him to “make it” and he accepted it…and then she begged him to put her in that cinderella ad campaign which he did at the cost of becoming disillusioned with her and almost immediately going back to his old habits.

great episode.

Megan is every French woman I’ve ever encountered, and that’s a lot. The whole being crazy and not knowing what she wants in life and trying desperately for a grip in life is exactly what every French woman I know is going through right now.

That said, those teacher’s tits…

Isn’t that what most characters in the show are doing

Brief plot point list of the past 2 episodes:

Ep.2

-Scumbag Pete look even “douchier” than before in his Cali getup, and seems to have met the perfect gal for him; one who is just a devious if not moreso. Bonnie and Clyde.

-Poor sweet Dawn, she has to put up with all this bullshit racism and office politics. Still, I’m glad the show doesn’t just turn a blind eye to this era’s treatment of “colored people”. Cooper is definitely channeling his inner “Don Sterling” when he said he didn’t want Dawn at the front of the reception hall.

-Peggy “Draper” finally has the success and prestige she wants, but seems even less fulfilled than before. Career v. relationships, either way, I really miss her innocence.

-Sally Draper making Don open up and be honest, as well as her stoic “I love you.” probably warmed Don’s heart more than anything in last few years.

**Ep.3
**
-The awkwardness of Don walking back into SCP was very palpable. Reminded me of dropping a place you used to work and seeing the same people after years passed.

-Don’s “replacement” is such a sexist and arrogant douchebag. I hope he disappears by mid-season.

-I’m surprised by Joan’s dismissal of Don considering how amicable they were prior to the end of last season. I knew she wouldn’t want him there, but she seems to have no regard for him at all anymore, interesting…

-Roger Sterling finally doing his job and logically laying down the hammer when he pulled out the- “You really want Don to be your enemy?” card.

-The way Sterling’s hippie side piece was looking at Don was hilarious; she wanted the D badly.

-I didn’t know farm girls were so “casual” with their wardrobe. Still, I’d be a little cautious of meeting a “Bessie Lou” out in Wyoming.

-Betty is such a fucking child. Her kid may have been unknowingly inconsiderate, but the way she acted made her look even more juvenile. What a petty bitch.

Don needs replacing with a character who isnt a narcoleptic zombie, 1 card dealing, overly simplfied complicated nigga.

Seriously get this asshole on the lubes to hell and make Pete center piece, at least hes got the whole hidden kid deal going on, Don is just the same ole sorry bullshit now.

its interesting how in this season Cutler and Sterling aren’t agreeing on anything.

Betty is such a child. She gets pissed at Bobby just because of the sandwich lol. She ruined the whole day. Felt bad for that kid after

Anyone catch this episode?

It was pretty good. The dynamic with Rodger and his daughter was good.

I knew something was up with her

She’s being a brat. You were hurt as a kid so you’re going to do the exact thing to your child? Brilliant.

Yep and Roger had to work to provide for the family. What the hell has she done lol’

Don’s hitting a low if Freddy is telling him he’s got a problem

Lol. I knew Don’s ego couldn’t stomach a role reversal with Peggy. Hopefully he can rebuild his dignity.

Sterling empathizes with his daughter since he’s been on his own hippie sexcapade looking to “find himself”, so his interaction with her at the commune also revealed to him that his daughter is a reflecting his character trait of insecurity.

And I find it amusing how insulting Pete is towards Peggy considering he was obsessed with having her many seasons ago and how he seeded her up. I really hope that part of the story get resolved by the end of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if much of Peggy’s anguish subconsciously stems from this.

don getting pissed and blowing up was obviously part of lou’s dual, glad he (don) pulled it together, though.

roger seemed fine with letting margaret work out her shit with those hippies until it was thrown in his face that she was up there getting fucked and that paternal instinct kicked in.

I don’t think he was ever okay with her just abandoning her kid. He seem genuinely upset over that. Then she threw that “but you did that to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” bullshit. It showed that she’s just a selfish little twat. Don’t want to give me money? Fine. I’m going to be a complete fuckwad about it.

i don’t think he was ever okay with it, but if you look at the arc of his visit, he was definitely less antagonistic than mona and seemed to be moving towards reaching some sort of middle ground until that dude took her away in the middle of the night…they even gave that scene the dramatic cinematography!

and yeah she’s definitely a spoiled brat, but she was making some vald points in her flawed defense talking about her mom getting drunk, crying in the bathroom, etc… her whole storyline just seems like evidence why you shouldn’t get married and have kids young. can’t be a dumb 20-something when you got a kid at home.

Oh, boo-hoo. My husband is making millions lemme go to the bathroom and cry about it! Daddy isn’t home? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, but I’ll still go to him for a asshole full of money that he’ll happily give me!

She lost her moral high ground long ago. She’s nothing but a gold digging asshole and when she didn’t get what she wanted she ran away.

have a heart!

I’m always left disappointed when the episode ends and nobody has shanked Pete Campbell.

wtf show is going on hiatus for another year again?

What’s Megan’s end-game? She’s now avoiding Don coming out to visit her in California. I’m dying to know why.
