Mad Men Thread (Season 3 begins 8/16 on AMC)

Spoiler

The competition with the ads between Don and Ginsberg was interesting to see.

lol @ Pete, fantasizing about the ‘Gilmore Girl’ coming to visit him at his office.
Why you gotta tell the insurance guy that you want to screw his wife?

‘Fat Betty’ was mad.

OMG UGLY BETTY!

don don don. i don’t like this new "pete campbell’ side to him, being sleazy and insecure and petty. jealous, even. roger is handling the new breed of talent a lot better i think. ‘screw it, i’m rich’.

roger has unstoppable swag levels, i’m glad to see him still working his magic. don has been pretty lackluster this season, not too happy about it.

pete is pete is pete, now and forever.

sad that kenny had to give up his writing shit, i loved his laid-back attitude. perfect foil for pete.

There’s an interesting arc going on here. The happier Don gets, the worse at his job he becomes. I’m sure anyone involved in the arts can relate.

This episode was a little on-the-nose about Betty’s awful pettiness, to the point where I found myself wishing they’d just hurry up and marginalize her again. There’s much more interesting material in the world of Mad Men. Betty’s side story is like those few minutes at a family gathering when you’re stuck talking to a relative you’d rather avoid.

At least it served a plot function. Now Sally knows about Anna Draper.

Petty Betty still losing. If only she could stop acting like she’s in her terrible twos and just try being a good mother. I like how Sally was smart enough to through her indignant trickery back in Betty’s face.

Don’s underhandedness would’ve gotten a smh if it wasn’t for the fact that Ginsberg is an annoying douchebag. Don’s exchange with him in the elevator was ownage at its finest. I hope the writers find a way for me to actually like Ginsberg, because I really want to like his character on some level.

+1 For Roger actually feeling himself without being completely condescending. Introspective Roger is a mindfuck.

I think you just hate Jewish people because Ginsberg has been nothing but charming. Never move to New York if you think he is an annoying douchebag.

Great episode for Joan tonight!

And did Don start to “take it back” with his speech?

Poor Pete. So excited, but…Still can’t get any love.

He’s a douche, not even close to Pete’s level but a douche still. Ginsberg’s pops is Jewish but he’s charming and loves his foster son very much.

I’ve always loved the exchanges between Don and Joan, basically 2 Alphas who understand what it’s like to be too pretty and charming. They also knew right off the bat that they’d never get along because they both exist on the same hierarchy.

The Krishna bits were hilarious, and Paul seems to follow all the historical trends of his era doesn’t he?

lol @ Pete’s turn for announcements. No one clapped. Stay losing Pete.

Next Week Pete

Spoiler

Look like his wife suspects, or found out. Stay losing forever Pete, FOR-EV-ER!

Mercedes must be just tickled pink that the voice of their car is so excited to talk up Jaguars. Now whenever I see those commercials I’m just going to think why there aren’t Jags on the screen.

Also, how are you ever going to try to get excited/assume anything about the next week clips? They are purposely extremely vague and almost never have anything to do with whatever you think they have to do with.

Annie is going to be mad about like putting money in a fund for their daughter or something.

It was very funny to see Megan freak out and Don to be so calm and explain exactly what he did after he tried to play the anger sex card.

Everything else in the ep was awesome, but the thing everybody needs to talk about is the UST between Don and Joan, because… fuck it, their babies would look like Greek gods.

I don’t expect it to go anywhere, at least, not anywhere that you’d expect a TV show to take it–i.e. Joan ending Don’s faithful streak.

^Getting Don and Joan together in an episode is like someone satisfying a craving. Outside of Peggy I don’t think Don has any other female intellectual match.

Did Sterling-Cooper ever get a car manufacturer?

Don and Joan have always shared a close respectful relationship.

Kind of like a really attractive brother and sister.

Just started watching this show. I’m on like episode 6. Don’t know what to think yet.

I need to rewatch. I remember what happened in the show’s past, but it’s a mishmash as far as what happened and when.

It’s a damn good show, though. It rewards the patient and attentive viewer. Sort of like The Wire, but not nearly as unforgiving.

I want to punch that one guy… I can’t remember his name. I about died when Drapper tried to fire his bitch ass.

Pete, probably. He is extraordinarily punchable.

The show starts slow but by the time the first season ends you will be hooked.

And Pete is the best, you are bitch made for not liking him.

YES! Welcome to the fold Ronin. stares at VS and grins :badboy:

Has Mad Men had an episode this season that was even mediocre? I just caught up on the last two weeks and it was amazing. I love how Mad Men can hold a scene for that little extra beat, that little line or word that just pushes the slow-burn awesomeness of it all. I was a bit annoyed at Betty being up to her old tricks, but holy shit, the conversation between Joan and Don was amazing.

I hated Pete so much when I started watching the show, but he’s so horribly douchey in an awe inspiring way. He’s so fucking self destructive and needy.

The new emerging Lane storyline is also quite interesting…

The “worst” episode so far was the one two weeks ago.

That was like a best episode for like 75 percent of the rest of television.

I liked seeing Betty’s pettiness being thrown back in her face.
