Yes. I am. Also what parts have Hori been supplying arcades? Last I checked almost every japanese arcade cabinet uses Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. Hori in house parts up until the Hayabusa have been laughable.
No I haven’t. I’ve simply kept this to relevant products. Arcade Sticks, which are the only thing that actually matter in this discussion. You want to talk about “dodging the point” when you’re trying to create a blanket statement that because Madcatz Product A from 2000 is shitty, Madcatz Product B from 2008 is shitty. I never denied that Madcatz has had bad products in the past. That doesn’t matter right now though, because we’re talking about their arcade sticks, which have been very well put together, and their staff has been incredibly receptive to fixing the mistakes that have come up. (Try getting something fixed from Hori, it’s actually pretty damn hard) These issues with the buttons are an exception to the norm, and are taken care of quickly by the company in most cases. Hori has also made some absolute shit.
If you want “specific examples” of the other companies fucking up Look up footage from the last MVC2 tournament from Seasons Beatings where the controllers kept disconnecting- that was because of the MAS PCBs. HAPP switching over all of their shit to China, and using shitty microswitches instead of the old Cherry Switches is pretty fucking well documented. I shouldn’t have to spoonfeed you this shit.
I’m still wondering what parts Hori is supplying to arcades. The fact that you’re willing to put the Hori products on a pedestal simply because of pedigree shows that you, above everyone else is too blind to actually do any research on the market and make an informed choice. Funny that you’d call other people “sheeple” (For the record I actually own more Hori sticks than I do Madcatz sticks <3)
I don’t think any of us are “butthurt” (nice try though, this isn’t 4chan), and there’s nothing wrong with us clicking dislike if we disagree with what you’re saying. There’s no reason for us to get you banned. You’re free to have an opinion, that doesn’t mean it’s fact like you keep trying to spout.
I’m baffled as to how anyone can defend Hori with such vehemence when this is the same company which not only cleared the EX2 for release, but also wanted to charge $80 for it.
To go over their consistent fails briefly (I’ve taken apart and modded almost every Hori stick made):
Poor quality wire running from stock joysticks to the pcb
Randomly designed pcb’s from the awful (EX2, HRAP EX, FS3, BlazBlue HRAP) to the “it makes no sense” (VX:SA, V3:SA)
Crap USB cables, even in the VLX’s
Bizarre company decisions (spending a fortune on developing Fighting Edge stock parts only never to offer them for sale or possibly even use them in a stick ever again, only having 4 Sanwa RG buttons in their latest stick, only having quick disconnects in some HRAP models)
Cable compartment doors were designed to fall off
Their community manager is non-existent aside from some cut & paste clips posted on SRK once a blue moon.
I could go on…
MadCatz are far from perfect (I hate the Strekken style case) and they used to make really bad stuff prior to that horrible street fighter four game, but IMO they immediately surpassed Hori with the release of the original TE.
Did you buy this new or used? People use to buy these sticks rip the parts out for there SE Put the SE Parts back in them and return them to Gamestop. I remember this being an issue a while ago it’s sad this has happened to you.
As for the EX2 for being as cheap as it was and being knockoff parts the EX2 actually wasn’t bad I’ve had mine for years now as I dont use it anymore I’ve played on it hardcore and it still works has not died and it still has stock, For what it is it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be, They’re also great to mod easy travel stick.
I’ve never had a problem with madcatz, I missed the part where he said he got them directly from MadCatz, But there older products weren’t as good but it’s all trial and error to make perfect.
I find it ironic that you tell people to “do a bit of research” when the one who actually needs to do a bit of research is you. Also, this kind of misinformed, biased, inciteful ranting is the exact kind of thing we don’t want in Tech Talk. Quit it or there will be administrative repercussions.
i also had this problem with an SCV stick and a MVC3 stick… I never looked beyond it, I gave them away as prizes but it did bother me… for a minute there I thought they were supposed to be knock offs and not sanwas. Until I read this thread
Also, as I previously stated, “misinformed, biased, inciteful” ranting has never be appreciated in Tech Talk. If you can’t be bothered to write a well written, well researched post with proper sources, tests, etc. in a neutral, non-inflammatory tone, then don’t.
Just to throw in my 2 cents, not that it’ll be wanted but whatevs:
I’ve never had any problem with any piece of Madcatz equipment that I’ve ever owned, even before 2009 pre-SF4 era. Pads and everything, never had a problem or issue. I still have my old Madcatz pad laying around somewhere for my PS2.
Madcatz stepped up their quality and is now one of, if not THE biggest name in the commercial fight stick business. You go to a major and I guarantee that you’ll see more Madcatz than any other stick there. And everybody is happy with their purchase and is glad to be using it.
Not knocking the other companies whatsoever, I love Hori and I still miss my HRAP that I used to own before I sold off my collection, but I think that Madcatz deserves a fair shake and acknowledgement of how much they’ve stepped up their quality and service.
One of the main reasons I think we get great service from MadCatz is that they are a company based in the US, where most of us are, and if not, they have a decent presence in other countries (CAN/UK/SE Asia?). That said, MadCatz seems to take community interaction and feedback seriously, which is what we are really paying for in the long run… right? :v
I agree. I’d say it’s all MadCatz and Qanba now. In my scene it’s about even with a slight nudge towards Qanba, but that’s cuz Canadian Joysticks is totally awesome!
