I’m fully expecting a thin list of changes. Negligible nerfs on top and buffs on the bottom. It’s why I supported a bi annual balance schedule. Because capcom has shown with sf4 that they’re either unable or unwilling to give each character equal (and deserving) attention.

But nerfs to what? What does Bison has that needs nerfs? If Capcom nerfs anything than they will show how bad at balancing they are.
EX DR will probably be nerfed.

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment, when you look at the new characters and the balance changes on the whole for USF IV and not just Bison’s buffs and nerfs he ended up around the same strength or slightly better. He’s generally considered mid tier to upper mid tier in USF IV.

Even in V Capcoms balancing was weird in how they decided who got a 3 frame normal and a DP. Urien and Chun chars that have an overall solid design + some BS get EX reversals but Bison doesn’t because he has + long ranged normals? He doesn’t even deserve a 3 frame normal? Rashid is all over the place with super good mobility and has a 3 frame normal and an EX reversal but Bison who has the worst walk speed doesn’t get a 3 frame normal or an EX reversal?

After Super E.Honda was considered pretty bad overall. In USF IV, they nerfed his EX. Headbutt to be less safe on block. Even though he was low tier, the nerf was justified because it was just absolute terrible game design that he had a reversal that was safe on block 90% of the time.
Capcom improved Gouken in USF IV so I don’t see as a knock against Capcom’s team. As for Dee Jay, the nerfs he got were surprising but I’d imagine the reason for it was they thought he might be a bit strong without them.
Balancing is not an exact science, they are not going to get everything right.

I think with Bison they originally decided to compensate for Bison’s slow walk speed and crap ant air’s he was going do a lot of damage and have really strong safe pressure. Then they realized in the beta that he was overpowered and accidentally over nerfed him.
Final strength is not everything. Having an interresting design is also part of a good job. Bison used to rely a lot on scissors. Instead of giving Psycho Crusher more uses (faster startup, less charge, more stun, more damage), USF4 buffed Scissors even more.
Skull Diver, DR and Headpress remained useless.
7 years of specials being useless.
Other characters suffered from this too. Blanka’s non-EX Rainbow Ball and Zangief’s Running Bear Grab also remained totally useless for the entire game’s lifespan.
Everyone says “this is one of the most balanced games” just because there’s not a broken character like vanilla SF4 Sagat; I say bullshit!!! top tier are balanced among them, but the weak characters are extremely weak; simply because they have CERO options.
If they give Bison a reversal (which I don’t think it will happen) I hope is not a EX one he is already too dependent in EX meter as it is. He can be good without having a 3 frame if not look at Nash; but of course he has Plus2 special, a lot of mobility, a good Vskill ect, ect, ect.
I do think Bison needs a NOT ex reversal and a AA just that and he will be mid tier; once again all the characters that have a reversal are top tier
Even gouken is a bad example of sfiv balancing.
Sfiv ssfiv, ae and ae2012 were all incomplete
They had to rdesign him based on fan ideas to make him work as a mid tier.
Also, look at his ssf4 and ae vesions to see unneeded nerfs to an underwhelming char.
Deejay was the same. I never understood what kind of stuff they smoked to think he would become stron with those changes.
On the other hand, check cfiend s video about ultra yun. “we made ex lunge +1 again because yun has a hard time getting in”

Gouken may have been badly balanced up till Ultra but that does not indicate the SF IV series was badly balanced overall.
Super, 2012 and Ultra overall were reasonably balanced.
In every SF series there has been top, middle and bottom tier.
Its extremely hard to balance a game that has many varied characters as SF IV did. Overall they did a reasonable job even if some balance changes were highly dubious.
Anyway with V there is nothing in as broken as the Alpha or SF III games, that’s for sure.
Set yourself up for fail. Capcom is gonna trickle in two random bug fixes for Bison at the end of the year.
Like what VEX Ex Psycho blast not going off when an opponent is grounded?

He wasn’t overpowered in Beta. He was strong and as much of a scrub killer as ever. Everyone was a scrub in those days.

Small buffs just arent going to cut it with this character this time, safer pressure isnt going to cut it this time, more damage and stun really isnt going to cut it this time…All of that will help…but this character will be nothing more than a battery for the opponent’s V gauge, if he doesnt get some more utility in his moves and options. Lord knows, change his v skill…Have you ever actually looked at how much V gauge Mika gets if she armors a headstomp with the mic…The rate at which we get meter compared to how long we keep V trigger is really upsetting.
Salt in here is getting pretty high. Fuckin’ blood pressure is going up.
In a match earlier today I tried to v-skill a Dhalsim’s limb. He wasn’t throwing the extended limbs around so much but I was just ready for it. It was such a good read. But then it was s.HP which hits low. I think v-skill could be really useful if it absorbed low attacks. I know we’ve been over ways to fix Bison multiple times but I would really enjoy if they just buffed his specials to make them usefull and made v-skill his defensive option. I don’t mind that much no invincible reversal. Make v-skill 3f startup and absorb low. It would be usefull against sweeps, which Bison is weak against considering his slow walk speed. It would add some hype to the game when Bison gets a clutch victory out of a good v-skill read.
Bison is bad but my only real issue with the game is Gief, Laura and Mika. All other match ups, even when they’re not that great, I can control my frustration, try to adapt and enjoy the game. Those 3 characters, they make me feel like I can’t win by “git gud”. They make me feel like the best I can hope for is that they’re gonna screw up big time. It’s frustrating for sure that I’m doing mostly good in our local tourneys right up to the point where I have to fight one of those characters and I look like a super bronze. How can there be such a big gap in my performance just from my opponent’s character choice?
So yeah I understand why the blood pressure is so high in here. I feel it. I feel it more now than at any point in time when I was playing USFIV even against Guile. But I also think that we gotta look forward to S2. We can’t be that far off from a decent character and I’m sure Capcom can recognize that Bison has issues and is absent from most top 8.

It was more of an observation after watching some replays…The way things are at high level…it’s going to be reeeaaallly hard for Bison if this keeps up.
