honestly, they would do it to appease fans. I know as a customer, I wanted DLC 3 months ago. They made a huge deal about MvC3 being able to adapt through dlc, and here we are talking about a new version of the game, and it isn’t even 6 months old. And alternate costumes alone will not appease fans. If they are smart there will be DLC following SDCC/EVO…

If the characters were directly relevant to my interest and the span of time is far enough away, I might buy it too. They would have to be characters I really wanted, but I could see myself getting $5 to $10 worth of fun out of them in some cases. That said, I think this is pretty wild speculation unless it is very, very easy for Capcom to ‘back port’ these supposed characters from UMvC3 work into something that would function properly in regular MvC3. Focusing on what UMvC3 itself might hold may be a more productive idea overall…

I have a hard time believing that since the release of Vanilla MvC3 they don’t have 2-4 characters already done or damn near close to done. I mean seriously those shadow battles aren’t that hard to code in the scheme of things. But it is Capcom, and we will probably have to wait. And that means the characters better be the most wanted/hype causing characters ever. And while vanilla MvC3 has a very good varied cast, they do have a habit of picking “salty” characters

If SMvC3 goes the AE DLC route… and it totally depends when it’s released, if we get vanilla DLC chars in let’s say august and SMvC3 hits early 2012, a lot of peeps will get them.
I have a feeling we’ll get some DLC chars first (to keep us busy) and a few months later an update with other (new) DLC chars.

Why this way? Because it produces more money.

If by “talking about the MML3 aftermath” you mean “we’ve moved on to debating the likelihood of additional Regular MvC3 DLC characters”, yeah. I’m inclined to agree with the points Diek and Stellar have raised, if there is enough gap of time between the DLC characters and UMvC3. And even then, they still have to overcome the “I know this purchase will be obsoleted” stigma somehow. Maybe by saying the characters will be forward-compatible with UMvC3? That could do it.

Otherwise, there is a large crowd of consumers who refuse to buy DLC if they can come up with even a small reason to do so. Some of them are just wallet-conscious, others perhaps too wallet-conscious, others still are doing it to ‘send a message’ to publishers, etc.

In any case, if Capcom can prove to buyers that the gap of time will be sufficiently large, or the DLC will be forward-compatible, that might work.

Only a few more days now, definitely hoping for some Gambit action! Also if PW really is in I’m curious as to how he’ll work. Not too excited about Red Arremer, secretly hope that the red/horny character is Daredevil (though I know some of the hints had nothing to do with DD, and Lup moved on to new hints after everyone decided RA). Thanos would be neat if he had a different moveset too. HOPPING ON THE THANOS HYPE TRAIN.
