@Damascus. I don’t think Vangief has been playing much lately since his performance at Evo 2010. Back then there weren’t very many Ibuki players, so it’s plausible that he doesn’t have much Ibuki experience.

Rufus has two moves that he probably used against. One is Snake Strike, which is where his fat ass jumps in the air and punches you like a thousand times. The other move is called…well I don’t know the actual name, I just call it his spin kick, or his bullshit kick. He spins around in the air a bunch of times and hits you like 4 times, with the fifth hit being one of his three enders. I’m guessing he used the snake strike against you, since it seems to have some brief invulnerability, and it’s vertical hit box would do a great job to beat kunai mix-ups. The spin kick versino most likely would have him going in the wrong direction, or just hitting you once out of the air.

Is dosu koi his headbutt or butt slam? I’m guessing his headbutt. It is definitely not spammable, since everybody in the entire cast can jab him out of it. And even then, it doesn’t do a thing when Honda’s back is on the ground. His neutral+fierce can be neutralized by good Vipers, and from what I saw the entire time I watched Latif practice before SBO quals, no Honda could stop him whatsoever. And we have some pretty good Hondas around these parts.

According to the local Honda guys, Honda beats Viper at low levels, but at the highest levels, Viper beats Honda.

I was speaking about Snake Strike. Ex Messiah whiffs anyway.
I couldn’t land a single Kunai anyway, so I guess here goes vortex.
Moreover I’m afraid to block EX messiah on reaction because if the Rufus is smart (I haven’t seen anybody doing that though) and delays the EX Messiah follow up, it would beat my neckbreaker

Dosu Koi = headbutt

WeirdoNeo does play a pretty good Juri, but I think it just takes some getting used to (especially since he plays her very very rushdown).

Chris Hu plays a decent Seth but he wasn’t at SJam. Gridman also plays a decent Seth, but it seems for the most part he has switched over to CViper.

I saw your match against Vangief and it was definitely clear he did not know a thing about the Ibuki matchup. Makes sense since he basically hasn’t shown up to tournaments since like Evo 2010? First match you basically just vortexed him to death, while he tried to crouch Lariat. Second match he seemingly adapted (or rather, mashed EX gh to get out of vortex, which you didn’t option select!!) and play footsies much more confidently: ala SPD footsies. You probably could have had him if you simply option selected to keep him in the vortex. Also you definitely should have gone for at least full TC4 everytime, if not TC4 , st.LP , st.MK, and not just TC4 3hit. It’s Zangief; I don’t know why you were concerned about hitboxes.

EX Snake Strike has 7f startup and near full invincibility. It has good autocorrect ability, but at 7f startup, as long as your kunai isn’t crossup while you land on the other side, he’ll never hit you.

I believe the spin kick move thing eltrouble is referring to is Jesus Kick (or Messiah Kick). Everyone has called it that since vanilla, and it should be obvious because every time Rufus does it, it like a kick from Jesus that saves him from getting pressured at all.

Headbutt definitely is good vs CViper because her jabs are pieces of shit. The only reason it isn’t spammable is because CViper has no real incentive to stay on the ground. If you are good at making it autocorrect (ie: if your name is Mike Ross) then it is incredibly useful when Honda’s back is on the ground.

Why would EX Messiah beat your Neckbreaker punish when his back is turned?

If he does a smart overhead followup, Rufus will jump over your neckbreaker and… land on you, punishing your attempt. He can actually do that on reaction.
I’ll have to try for the kunais against EX SS though, as I tried some setups like that and they did not work. He must be invincible or something. Or I just dropped the setups

And yes, I sucked balls in this Vangief match. 3hit TC4 is just a “I don’t wanna use my brain” bad habit on my behalf. And… seriously, he caught me with some very nonsense SPDs xD

My next step here is to be sure I know how to OS when I crossup. I actually OS’d my jumps but missed all of them, either hitting the button too early, or ending up doing the wrong motion.
This + making sure I know how to handle those unusual matchups such as Guy should help me.

Solution: use LP Neckbreaker. If he goes for the overhead, you should still be behind him and recover in time to do an even bigger punish.

I think Vangief has been on that League of Legends.

Speaking of LoL, am I the only person in the world who GREATLY prefers Dota1 and Dota2 over LoL or HoN? The grind to level cap is annoying, and near impossible on pubs, since each individual hero isn’t nearly as powerful as they used to be in Dota.

I just started playing Dota 2 a week ago and I’ve never played DotA, LoL, or HoN.

From my limited experience with the game, and from what I’m told, Dota 2 = Dota 1+. Not much has changed other than few item and hero tweaks. General mechanics are identical with a slightly improved interface.

the sound is amazing in dota2!

I am playing SFIV, Persona 4, FIFA12, Battlefield3 and I still have to play my solo games aka Dark Souls & Assassin’s Creed revelations.
DOA5 is coming very soon
Oh, and I am also having fun on CS:GO.

For my own sake I decided I wouldn’t lay a single finger on LoL/DotA. I don’t even have enough time to play the games I already enjoy (except if I’m willing to stop sports, which I’m definitely not going to do), I don’t want another time-consuming game ^^

BTW, I lost to Aquasilk’s Gief at Big Two yesterday. The match was extremely (and surprisingly) tight (surprisingly because I don’t feel like I handle the Gief matchup correctly), I ended up losing the last round to Aquasilk’s specialty: jump instant u2 to punish a backdash. Backdash coming because… I tried a Tsumuji loop and I dropped it u_u
Also, hard to do, but I believe that Raida is an extremely powerful tool in a match against a smart Gief with U2, since you won’t be able to overhead neither EX Kazegiri him too much when he gets it (aquasilk can punish your overhead with U2 on reaction, so don’t mess with this guy). Being able to recognize his setups and Raida them is very important imho, even if risky, you don’t have any reliable option to escape from Gief if he’s at point blank range with U2 stocked, you’d have to guess, and jumping/overhead/backdash will put you at risk of U2

Don’t really care much for sound or graphics, as long as the gameplay is solid. I suppose I’m OG like that.

Yeah, you sound like you’re pretty stacked on games to play for awhile. Personally I use Gamefly, which is like a video game rental system that uses the mail. Think Netflix but with video games, sans a decent PC selection or stream service. It encourages me to swim through games pretty quickly and move onto the next thing. I don’t really have time to go after every single achivement, trophy, treasure hunts, and other little time wasters, so I just blaze through the main content and interesting side quests as quickly as possible.

Aquasilk is actually a pretty solid player. It’s rare to see a Gief player that doesn’t rely on OS’s and plays with that OG feel. Just keep in mind the dude ALWAYS goes for U2 setups.

“I SPD, and I protect the fucking skies.” – Aquasilk.

So how do you use Raida? You OS into it? I haven’t found much use for it in the game outside of combos, and trying to style on Sims that go for the reach-around too often.

I don’t like going quickly through a game, I always try to appreciate it as much as I can =)

I lost 2 - 1 to Silk, he tried to U2 me at almost every round lol. I got hit by one because of a backdash lol.
And that’s the tricky part about this Raida I’m talking about. You don’t OS it. You try it.
Basically what I got out of those matchups is, it is a very bad position to be at point blank range vs a Gief with U2 stocked.
Here are your solutions and the risk:

  • Blocking -> SPD (say 200 dmg) to another wakeup situation exactly similar (ie. guess again and watch out for your low health bar) or punish U2 => moderate risk
  • Overhead: st.MP (best outcome so far, you just get reset, but he can quickly come back to point blank range and you’re in a 50/50 situation ), or Ultra 2 (let’s say it’ll be 450 dmg) => TEH RISK
  • Backdash: green hand/EX green hand to come back to point blank range and go all over again, or U2 => TEH RISK
  • Neutral jump: you’ll get hit by at least a reaction lariat to another point blank situation, or at worst a reaction U2 => TEH RISK
  • Back jump: reaction U2** => TEH RISK**
  • Mash EX Kazegiri: either hit him and go back to a good position, or eat an U2 in yo face => TEH RISK
  • Try to start a string with something like st.LP: maybe hit him, maybe eat an SPD, maybe even punish a random U2 **=> moderate risk **(mostly because there is a very good outcome for it)
  • Walk back: LP SPD bitches. Or sweep from gief sending you back to the same situation) => moderate risk
  • Raw raida: punish any SPD attempt (should I say that Gief players tend to use a lot SPD? ^^ ), let random U2 whiff and punish it, can be hit by a normal (why not), can be blocked to SPD => moderate risk

I think I covered anything rational you can think about (I mean, you can still go for EX Hien or command dash but lolol).
So basically you have exactly the same outcomes if you do a raw raida than if you just block or hit a button, and pretty much the same risk of getting hit by something.

Since at this point you have to guess, trying a Raida does not seem that stupid IMHO.

I also like Raida as an anti air which will send my opponent to the corner. Or if I’m cornered, for the classic EX Kazegiri FADC raida.
And to catch Adon’s Jaguar Tooth :stuck_out_tongue:

Solution: Pick Sagat.

But I can see where you’re coming from. This is one hell of an annoying matchup. Not only is it boring to play, but Ibuki has to work pretty hard to land damage on Zangief before he lands a hit on you and equalises out on the life lead.

I despise Dota/Lol/Hon/Moba/etc. because at the time, I was playing WC3 ladder. And when my friends introduced me to Dota, I was like, “this must be for noobs who can’t micro more than one hero, or more than one unit for that matter.”

Still playing CS:GO as well and dominating “casuals” with awp. GO still apparently has retarded hitboxes/registration like Source, to the point where I think awp shots can be just as random as spraying with a rifle, even if your target is standing still and you’re already scoped in.

b+MP works just fine for me.

I doubt he can do it on reaction. Chances are, you’re just being predictable.

I still believe that there is no way Gief can force you to stand still. Air 720 is like impossible to option select, so he’s most likely just going to have to make a read (guess), in which you can do a big Tsumuji loop punish if he guesses wrong.

Yes you’re taking a risk, but so is Gief. Don’t overlook how much damage Ibuki can do even meterless.

+1 on the playing each game as thoroughly as possible. I’ll never forget the 100+ hours I put into Pokemon Red making my bomb squad of a team all level 100, or the 100-200+ hours I put into FFX maxing stats to 255 on all of my characters, getting 99 of every item and trying desparately to get all the celestial weapons.

That was a pretty common attitude among RTS players. And it’s also a highly accurate depiction of this MOBA genre (when the fuck did it get their own name?) I’m admittedly terrible at RTS games, I greatly enjoy SC2’s single player experience, but I don’t have 120 apm like those freak Korean cyborgs. MOBA is a much easier game to manage, has interesting aspects of levelling up and item management, and plus it’s insanely fun to troll people with you and 4 other friends on that game.

But by far, the LoL/HoN/Dota2 community has got to be some of the most immature and hostile communities I’ve ever seen. It’s like they were braised in salt.

Oh lovely, so CS:GO is a mixed bag of good and bad. Honestly I don’t mind the accuracy and power of the AWP, but I do wish they would make it so that you would have to stand still longer in order to get an accurate shot, or at least make the zooms slower.

I love playing each game as thoroughly as possible, but Christ, that gets harder to do the older you get. Real life tends to get in the way of them video games. I’ve put countless hours into a variety of games, especially on the SNES and PC in my younger days and teen days.

Life was lovely when all you worried about was high school (easy), girls (never easy), and playing Half Life 1 and Quake 3:Arena.

awp is as strong as it was in 1.6. you need better opponents!

dota2 is the best of those gameplay wise. the only reason why LoL is so popular is because it has a leveling system like CoD.

ive seen high level LoL play and that shit is retarded. they are so slow and dont take advantage of situations. horrible team synergy.
LoL is extremely forgiving compared to HoN/dota2.

i have really tried to like dota/HoN/dota2 but the whole concept is not my style.
ive probably played 500+ hours because alot of my friends played dota.

  • Raida is style points + stun + possibly send him back to corner + “omg she did something awesome!”. Not that practical, but fun
  • Aquasilk will. I’ve honestly never seen a guy able to pull out this air 720 motion that fast. If you jump or overhead he’ll most likely get you, if you backdash he may get you out of randomness.
  • What I was implying here is you have nothing safe in this position, neither does he. You basically have to take a guess, and a guessed Raida can be useful =D

I know the AWP is as strong as it was in cs1.6, but it was quite powerful in that game. I don’t mind the accuracy and damage of the AWP, but I do mind how easy it is to quick scope and jump stop to land hits. Personally I would like to see corrections to zoom speed and higher stability requirements to fire the perfect shot, similar to how the Scout fires.

I completely hate the idea of having to level up in LoL in order to get access to superior runes and shit. Has anybody ever calculated how much money it would take in order to get complete access to all heroes and items? I personally dislike the new business strategy of making things FTP with a higher ceiling for how much money hardcore gamers are willing to spend for a game. I’d just rather pay to have access to a complete package, with a FTP trial period or so to really explore the depth of the game.

HoN and Dota1 stick more closely to the original Dota…especially HoN. Certain individual heroes have the ability to completely destroy another team once they’re fed, and they’re much more threatening. Very few LoL characters have this ability, especially at low levels.

^ Precisely what I hate about F2P games. I want to pay one package, and then enjoy it as much as I can (and later, why not, extend it with actual legit DLCs, like Mass Effect, Red Dead…). I don’t like having to choose what to buy to actually enjoy the game, this actually ruins the gaming experience imho. If I enter the game, I want to get to play with everything inside. Otherwise I’d feel like I’m in real life “oh this concert looks cool… But come on 150$ is too expensive I won’t go there”.
