Hello ibuki community I’m currently a freebuki trying to level up to advanced play. So far I got most of her link combos but I’m struggling with her sjc combos. I know you guys probably get this a million times (and yes I know that tiger kneeing is the best way to to sjc) but what are some setups that I should learn to slowly transcend to advanced play
Setups? Or you just mean certain combos to practice SJC?
Thx for replying and my question is what are Ibuki’s staple setups that she has?
Well, assuming you mean setups you’ll be using all the time, top three would be:
Safe jump: Neckbreaker , b+MP , j.HP
Basic vortex: Neckbreaker , pause , sj LP kunai
Kara tick throw: st.MP , kara throw
I agree with his top 3 setups, except personally I would prefer to learn a basic frame trap over her kara throw.
cr.lp, brief pause, st.lk x st.mk xx tsumuji, neckbreaker, or command dash.
You can time the pause after a neckbreaker with a st.LP.
Oh, and if you don’t know safe jumps, don’t bother yet learning SJC combos. You need the basics first =)
thx and I heard that after a back throw do lk cd and sj mk. Is that a safe jump?
It’s probably character specific, because it’s definitely not a traditional safe jump in the sense that you can land and recover in time to block a reversal. It’s a hitbox safe jump because you’re either stuffing your opponent’s reversal or making it whiff.
ooo that makes sense because noticed that it doesn’t work on ryu
It actually works on Ryu with sj.LK as long as he does a reversal DP. Non-reversal DPs will beat you unfortunately
That’s why I said reversal dp’s and not autocorrect dp’s.
You didn’t mention it was against Ryu =)
(BTW it does not work on Cammy, her reversal DP will beat you anyway)

Considering playing Ibuki, I tried Viper but damn executions. I’ve been told Ibuki is good if you wanna rush down but your execution is too bad for Viper. Also, how often do people ever use target combos? Except for, lp, mp, hp.
Ibuki doesn’t quite play the same as CViper. The closest resemblance is that they both have Super Jumps, except with CViper you’ll be doing SJCs at a rate of 10 per second on the fly, whereas with Ibuki most of her SJC stuff is canned. CViper is by far the better rush down character, simply because she can do it against nearly everybody (teleport > Ibuki) and it can be very hard to keep a good CViper out. On the other hand, Ibuki has little to none get-in tools.
I use target combos all the time, especially air target combos given the advent of players figuring out that they can FA dash out of vortex.

Thanks. That’s pretty much everything I needed to know. I’m a Bison player but what a secondary, not sure if I want a rush down or a turtle.
If you want to give rush down style a try, try playing either Rufus or Yun, both requiring relatively low execution and are true rushdown characters, in the sense that if they’re not in your face pushing buttons, then they’re probably losing.
Also make sure you don’t confuse “rush down” with “good offensive/pressure game”. I define “rush down” as the ability to keep constant pressure on your opponent until the defending player makes an exceptional read (reversal dp, tech throw, backdash, etc.). And I define good pressure as basically safe pressure, preferably with low risk/medium to high reward.
Okay, I’m try to get better with Ibuki, but there’s so much to learn with her, what should I focus on first? Unblockables, safe-jumps, OS?
Well there go some posts I overlooked… Thanks
