I live near Cross Creek Mall in the Water’s Edge/Devonwood area.
I live in cliffdale forest off raeford road. I’m trying to look for some more local comp, you interested?
I am. As soon as I am able to establish Internet connection for my Wii in my dorm room (I am currently attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke), I will message you with my Brawl’s friend code.
Yeah, well I don’t have my Wifi setup either. I’m trying to record matches of local players to post on youtube, I just want my town to have some representation.
EDIT:
Sorry for throwing this thread off track.
For the record galatic: Link has been my main since 64…and he has always sucked. I don’t know where you got him as EVER being high tier. He was arguably the worst character in 64. His basic design is flawed and keeps him from possibly ever being top tier in any smash game now or in the future.
The only reason I could see him being better this time is because of Brawl’s rules seem to favor projectile spammers and high priority hitters. Link is that…but others just seem to do it better than he does. (dedede)
But I’m seriously unimpressed with him so far. At best I’d can see him ending up in the middle of the mid tier. Oh well, my Link is still going to hit Snake in his mouth and make him cry.
On another note: you guys are seriously overrating the spin attack nerf. It is there, but the new spin is not by any means useless. I ko with an uncharged spin quite often.

lol
Ok, did some playing around.
D+air is your main kill move. once they get at a high “%” base your entire mid-stage strategy around landing this move.
Been playing a bit more with Link, (He’s been my main since Melee, just cuz I like him, not cuz he’s top tier or anything, and I haven’t played the 64 one much, wasn’t a big fan of it then.) and though I still believe his standing up+b has been terribly (and COMPLETELY unneccesarily) nerfed, it’s not as “useless” as I originally stated. It’s still a good “GTFO OFF ME” and spacing move, the range is pretty wide, hits both sides, has good priority and it’s tricky to roll past.
Spamming it is a bad idea, but spamming ANYTHING with Link is a bad idea. I figure the key with Link is to be unpredictable. Don’t be a “projectile spammer” like most people try to be with Link, because most top tier chars like Metaknight, Pit, Falco, Toon Link will fuck that shit up or can spam you back much more effectively. Just because Link HAS 3 different projectiles doesn’t mean you should be tossing them around willy nilly without any strategy, considering one of those projectiles is PURE GIMMICK now and another one of them can hurt you as well.
The key to success with Link is to play defensively on the ground, try to bring the fight to the air, (the only place where Link has some superior priority with his Fair and Dair) and play mindgames with projectiles. (Much different from “spamming” them.)
Be creative and experiment a lot. A cool gimmick I’ve found (extremely situational) is when you f-smash someone who’s on the very edge of a stage and they block it, falling off the side, you can hit them with the second strike of your f-smash before they grab the ledge. Found this out playing a my friend’s Falco.
That said, his Dair is a good smash move (Tho it’s also been nerfed since Melee, wtf?) but his Fair is a tad better IMO, faster, larger hit box and doesn’t leave you completely vulnerable on both sides if you miss.
Of course, all of this is IMO and I’ve only been playing for a week, (Extensively with Link, Falco, and Lucas) so if you guys disagree with this I’m open to suggestions. I’m still holding on to the idea that he’s been nerfed though. I hope to enter some SSB tourneys in NYC when I have time. I was way too late (And didn’t have much spare time) in getting into SSM to play competetively, but maybe SSB won’t pass me by.

UR WELCUM
Seriously though, it’s got no landing lag and naturally combos into an usmash or fsmash(!). Pretty safe move, yup yup.
his spin got terribly nerfed because in melee it had its sick pseudo spike properties and you could gimp anyone with an easy to guard recovery with it decently if they botch their sweetspot(which was actually possible in melee).
Yes but given the fact that even WITH THAT he wasn’t a top tier char in Melee, why not let him keep that, as he’s pretty much stuck in low-mid tier in Brawl?
^_-;
Link did not get as super nerfed as you guys make it seem.
He did get nerfed, but… he got less nerfed than others, making him better off in this one… I guess.
He’s really only worse because they fixed all the glitches from melee.
Fuck that, Link is tight. He can space good with his variety of projectiles, has good smashes, and has decent aerials. I currently love his bair. I think its better in this one. Seems like the second hit is guarenteed and it has better reach. Its a good edge follow up too. And his main K.O. move is dair like tiger said. Runners up are f smash, fair, and his utilt isnt to shabby either. He has good Edge Guarding game, tight projectile spacing, and pretty good air game. I think hes one of the most fun characters in the game IMO. Plus TP Link looks to good.
Honestly, I gotta apologize about my sarcastic reply earlier, I actually HAVEN’T been using his hook that much in the air, and I just found out about the no landing lag last night. Gonna try to combo that into a fsmash when I get home tonight.
Thanks for that protip, for real this time lol!

Thanks to this thread, I actually re-picked up good ol Link.
Thanks alot, you fucks:lol:
In Melee I played around with the Bombs, so much shit you could do. Well Brawl’s system I originally thought was worthless for them, but thats cause I was trying to play Melee Link in Brawl, which resulted in EPIC FAIL!
thing is, old skool just throwing the bomb at the enemy is ALOT risky-er now thanks to how much easier it is to actually CATCH items. So as I’ve messed with Link I find I can do all kinds of bomb play/parlor tricks, many of which being new. Since its so much easier to catch the bombs now, tossing one above my head, pulling another, jump forward, throw that one, jump back, catch cooked bomb, throw it/dodge bomb/sheild bomb/SHDBD/let it explode to give my UpB back.
I digg that Boomerang too. That whirlwind has great potiential. Love the fact on the way back, I don’t believe it counts as a hit. So it has that potiential for added ledge harassment.
Now I never used to use Arrows to much in melee, but since uncharged ones fire so much quicker now. They are now staple. I wonder, do they still stop lasers/fireballs/charged shots when they are stuck in the ground? hmmmm…
For the record, SH hookshot is RETARDED. Completely lagless.
i like link as an average character…when i want a little bit of a break from using snake and ike i think he can win against anyone but at times it can be a real pain…i’m new to this game and the terminology so i don’t understand some of it…but does his u+a ever knock out anyone? the last hit seems to have all the power but sometimes the first two juggle too high for the last one to hit
You probably mean his up smash, and yeah, it does kill. I don’t know what you’re doing wrong if only the first two hit. What are you playing, Melee?
I play this guy too. I haven’t played him a whole lot lately, but my recent style with him has been to use bombs and arrows for my main offense. I’ll only use the sword to defend from an attack. Hookshot’s great to attack with imo. The boomerang… I don’t know about it’s windwhirl properties, but it’s still great to use if you don’t have a bomb. Arrows are great to use to attack someone from afar. as far as the B-up move goes… I don’t care if it’s nerfed or not, even its melee counterpart was mediocre. sure it’s a great move — IF you hit with it… this is by no means a shoryuken-type attack, there are very easy ways to punish it.
I’m not sure where he’d land on a tier list but… who gives a fuck, playing this guy is fun.
oh, for those who’re having problems with enemies catching your bombs, try this: take out a bomb and make it totally obvious that you’re going to throw it at them. Do it, but then immediately run up and use hookshot. Fuck them up for catching your bomb. If you do it long enough, they won’t get to throw it and you’ll get to land even more hits. Another trick is to just throw the bomb up into the air (light toss) and walk forward. If they move towards you, grab them and U-throw If they don’t do anything, disregard the fact that you threw the bomb and fuck them up. Bombs are better in SSBB than in melee, so you should use as many tricks as you can.
You can catch items mid-attack in brawl.
i don’t know if this is common knowledge but i’ll throw it out there anyway…whenever link has a bomb plucked they have to account for 3 projectile options so i severely abuse this tactic…of just pulling a bomb holding it using arrows to make them block when i want to be stationary or using the 'rang when i want to be mobile throwing the bomb on the way in or out depending on the situation …or just throwing it straight up i think someone brought it up in another thread or this one…using the hookshot if they are catching your bombs is pretty safe as well…in one on one fights i think link has a harder time because his attacks are pretty easy to see coming when i play him at least he fairs better in 4 player brawl
