Level Up Your Game

I have both PS3/XBOX360 sticks and tried them both with GGPO. It feels like the XBOX360 stick is a bit more responsive than the PS3 stick. PS3 version feels like its got some delay or something to the inputs shrug

I know the MvsC2 fight stick TE I bought before had HORRIBLE input delay or NO INPUTS being counted at all sometimes. Definitely took that bitch back after 1 day of using it. =P.

I played ST on GGPO once and TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH someone you actually want to play challenges you to a match TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH TOM HANKS CHALLENGES YOU TO A MATCH

…damn you, Tom Hanks. Why can’t I mute/avoid your ass? This is way more annoying than RQing Akumas, I think I’m going to play some HDR now.

There is a build of the GGPO client that allows you to ignore a player. Ignoring them will prevent them from challenging you, and also will prevent you from seeing what they type in the chatroom. I can never remember where the link is to download it, but if you hop on #SRK IRC channel someone should be able to help you.

If there is ever an update to GGPO, the ignore feature should definitely be included.

Before I quit playing on xbox live, its absolutely true that the sub-par netcode had made me a worse player. Stuff that I would do all day before, like flashkick headstomps, or hitconfirm combos… I was missing frequently. After this went on long enough I totally lost confidence that I could even do those things and it affected my offline game. Now Im playing on ggpo and Ive gotten my skills mostly back to where they were before. Funny thing is Ive never had a consistent setting to play offline, so I wonder if someone who does is thinking to themselves that even on ggpo they cant reach their full potential.

Idk. Ever since I got on GGPO I never went to back to HDR. I kinda like the precise inputs on ST(sometimes). Especially since I just started playing on a stick it’s just a new beginning for me all around. But I won’t know how much I improved in HDR until I’m fully confident and fee more comfortable with playing on a stick. So my only guess is adapting to the latency from GGPO to PSN HDR.

GGs last night!

I can see how ST will tighten up the screws in HDR, but the netcode is an issue. If you are going from GGPO to offline HDR then it may not really impact your performance.

Speaking of leveling up your game: I was playing Jodim last night on GGPO and it was a pretty humbling beatdown. I always knew shoto opponents are his specialty – he destroys them and eats them for breakfast. I use Ryu sometimes, and I often lose to mid-level Zangiefs. Why I then decided to use Ryu against him, I have no idea. But I didn’t win a game and lost over 30 in a row.

Now, I’ve spectated his matches for a long time and I’m (I think) a pretty realistic evaluator of skill, and I know my level and his so I knew going in that if I won more than 1/10 matches, I’d be doing OK. But it wasn’t even close; his footsies against Ryu are amazing, he was just toying with me for the most part. This might be 5.5-4.5 in Gief’s favor in ST, but playing him it felt 9-1, it was that hopeless. It’s made me completely rethink the matchup.

Finally I switched to Boxer and after a few attempts managed to win (this is after 30+ losses with Ryu). Surprisingly, I was expecting just as much of a beatdown but I immediately felt a pressure lift when using Rog against him. It cemented the notion for me that Rog is an equal or superior character to Ryu in every matchup except for Honda, at least for me. It’s like I instantly upped my damage/threat level by +30% when using Rog compared to Ryu, where I couldn’t land enough damage per round. Anyway it was probably 10-4 for Jodim after I switched to Rog, which was less humiliating.

Jodim is an amazing Gief player, he embodies the “One Knockdown Rule” – get knocked down once, and you lose the round. When I used Boxer against him, I didn’t feel he was doing anything special or particularly scary. It’s just when he did manage to land a knockdown, the round was completely sealed in his favor. That’s a level of skill and execution that you rarely see from lesser Gief’s.
