Welcome to competitive gaming. Where there are fans, there are hecklers too. One of the experiences in tournaments are ‘distractions and nuisances’ in the competitive environment. Try not to see them as a negative, look at them as extra incentive to shut both your opponent down and his friends. Kobe vs any NBA team is the best example =). Casual players wont share this experience since, ‘its not real’ or ‘nothing on the line’.

Spartan:
I’m with you 100% about hype and ‘this is how we do’. However, no need to extend the aggravation to someone that is unaware/brand new to the scene. If we have learned in anything the past, dissuading enough people like this will prevent the community from growing.

Now having said that, I completely hear you where you are coming from. A little background info about me for those who don’t know. I actually just moved to SoCal from the East Coast. My first real competitive games were TTT and Marvel 1. I dropped TTT cause there was just more hype in the Marvel 1 arcade scene at the time. As Marvel 2 came about a couple years later I came to witness some of the greatest trash talking/insulting moments in my life. This behavior shows up sometimes in 3rd S, CVS2 and other slow paced games, but it’s really the bloodline of Marvel. Look up the Duc Do/Sanford Kelly Marvel 2 mm for example<<hype at its best!

As a new player I can see how this could look crazy but I assure you that no “big black guy” or his “mexican friends” would ever do any real harm. I would NEVER EVER let that shit go down!!! EVER!!! Like I if I see somebody swinging you can rest assure I’m jumping in there and fucking shit up! no matter how big or black or mexican the guy is! I may be ass in fictional video games, but I’ll fuck some real life fighting up! Whats good!!
Sure maybe a little trash talking but to be honest the West Coast needs it. Ya’ll are a bunch of soft sissies when it comes to hype. We (NYC/East Coast) are the founders of Marvel hype (look up the yipes Pringles/fuck the knicks and countless moments for proof of this)

So I say all that I guess to kinda apollogize to you but that’s just how it is. It’s like sports fans and how they get roudy when team wins or loses I mean look at Lakers fans, they are fucking nuts!
I hope you are not discouraged from coming, I would just recomend to grow a thicker skin and bring some friends to trash talk too, it never gets phisical I promise.

I actually had a very similar experience last night at WNF. My first match was against RIP a Tekken 6 player that is learning the ropes. Now I know I can beat RIP but I got owned… why?? …simple… When you play in a tourney it’s more than just playing the game with perfect execution and correct guesses. You also have to have the right mentality and keep it strong. Look at Daigo and why he bought noise cancelling headphones to block out shitt talkers.
Anyways, needless to say Mike Ross wanted me to lose and heckled the shit outta my match. Told RIP how to beat my team on both matches with the Sentinel and I cought the L. Sure I could have got mad at Mike but whats the point??.. its just a fugging video games… IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS!!

Also I recently put Mike Ross on blast so I’m not mad at him for getting back at me! :'D

@valle-i know watcha mean new comer coming out and gets discouraged cuz of hype. but im a nobody as well so it was more fun, i mean who cares if i or my friends talk shit cuz im NOBODY! i could understand if a top player ran his mouth like that not welcoming newcomers than i would understand no need for that shit. but im sorry the event was a good turnout but WOW was it fucking boring. not boring as in comp sucks, but boring as in NO shit talk NO hype i mean this is MARVEL!!

Give it time, nobody knows how to play Marvel3 except for a handful of people. We’re also getting used to WNF at the new venue and running 2 tourneys simultaneously. So players most likely wont be bragging about their shitty skills haha.

If you want, you can schedule some 1v1 tournaments winner take all (if you know what I mean) to build more hype.

Yeah, i actually had the issue with the screaming entourage as well - heckling is fine, but having 5 dudes screaming at the top of their lungs 3 feet away was literally painful for my ears. when i told them that it was extremely irritating, they told me that i made their day - they were pleased that they partially succeeded in ruining my experience.
Thoroughly disappointing example of our species.
Its not gonna stop me from coming, but it was rather…displeasing.

I was the guy who actually got pissed and chewed them out. For two reasons:

  1. I was mad salty.
  2. They were kind of doing it out of nowhere, and kind of making something out of nothing. Like getting hype over absolutely nothing. OMG! WHIFFED A NORMAL AND DIDN’T GET PUNISHED! “YEAH MOTHERFUCKER THAT’S HOW WE DO!”

The thing is though, when you’re salty you’re salty. I get a lot of sodium in me when people heckle. They weren’t really wrong in what they did tbh, and I apologized after wards for getting pissed. Because it’s all hype man. I forget that sometimes when I’m on the losing end of things, but shit talk is what’ breeds the community. I asked Mike Ross after how to deal with it, and the only thing he said was “Prove em wrong” which is all you can do. Which is true.

Or talk shit back. Which you’ll bet I’ll fucking do next time.
