if richard can win with sagat now, people might actually think he is good
it is kind of like what happens in rpgs when you get into a boss fight with a really bad dude, and he’s super strong and shit and has massive amounts of hp and almost annihilates your entire party single handedly, then he becomes friends with the hero and joins the party but all his stats get nerfed and he ends up being not so great
