Let's talk about money - The Finance Thread

I’m interested in putting some cash into minds.com, especially since youtube seems intent on burning itself to the ground. Honestly I have no idea why so many companies rise to the top and then have to start messing around with the formula that took them to the top in the first place. When google bought youtube they should have just left it as it was instead of trying to socially engineer everyone into a communist or whatever the fuck they are trying to do now.

Yea…that yt monetary policy update six months+ ago is still causing all sort of butthurt. It is harder now for up-and-coming youtuber to earn dat $$ and the popular ones need to monitor their uploaded vids because YT can disable the ad-$$ flag anytime.

@Richter 36 months.

Anyone here self employed & has a retirement plan? I would like to have additional options to my Roth IRA for retirement.

nasdaq breaches 6k for the first time ever. weve had 2 days in a row now with a super strong rally, french election just gave us the boost to continue the bull market.

I hope some of you guys entertained the idea of crypto currency trading. When I first suggested it Bitcoin was at 1200-ish mark. Right now its sitting at 1600 USD.
Other coins like Litecoin (LTC) was at 7, now 30.
Etherium (ETH) was at 50, now 90.

Now the big coins to look at now are XRP, LTC, XMR, ETH, ETC, DASH for a long term play. Right now I think all the cryptos are on highs cause of news of other countries looking to adopt them into exchanging them as if they are money.
Looking to buy into them once people take profits and a dip forms then hording them for the long term.

Other thing to note that this isnt a bubble as Bitcoin is losing its market dominance as these other lower end coins are giving Bitcoin a run for its money as they have better algorithms, transfers, security, etc.
The biggest one to take over Bitcoin would be ETH.

I might grab some ETH and hold it for a while and see what happens, thanks for the tip. Are there penalties for transferring it back to cash?

Only “penalties” would be taxes. So w/e your capital gains tax is what it will be taxed at. But in terms of gaining liquidity (More Crypto) you dont have to claim it on taxes.
After that, depends on the site. I believe selling the coins to Coinbase they take a 7% fee.
Other alternative is just transferring funds to your own personal crypto wallet and sell it to local buyers. (Maybe have your own “service” fee attached too.)

I’d agree with buying Ethereum and a few other crytocurrencies (steemit, auscoin) as speculation.

However, I have never trusted and may never trust bitcoin. I think most of bitcoin is hoarded, not used for commerce, and I think it rises at the nadir of China’s economy. In fact, I’m pretty sure it is going parabolic because China is falling apart (behind closed doors) and people are getting their money out through any method possible.

Plus, with the invention of goldmoney (my preferred alternative “currency”), the entire idea behind bitcoin is increasingly ridiculous. The 2 main draws are 1) decentralized currency, and 2) blockchain technology.

With bitcoin increasingly being dominated by just a few people (the original miners, the creator, some wealthy people) and with tons of coins being lost between 2009 and 2015, the first benefit is dwindling. It’s also increasingly hard to mine, which means big miners have an overwhelming advantage in creating them.

As to the blockchain, other cryptocurrencies have already added it (ethereum), and there’s no reason that goldmoney and even national currencies couldn’t add it later. I’m a bubble-watcher, but I’m an equal opportunity bubble watcher, and bitcoin seems like one. Just my 2 cents.

*My buddy was going to invest in Bitcoin at the end of 2016 because he thought the price would raise due to China and other countries shifting stance on it. However, my uneducated opinion on cryptocurrency is that the money will ultimately be in the technology and not the currency. *

Bitcoin is like gold and Magic cards

Grabbed some LTC and XRP this morning, been meaning to jump into crypto too long and hoping it’s not too late!

It’s now 12:03:AM on Thursday. As per the deal, I can now release this to all of you.

Minds is about to go public. Take a look and see what you think.

What’s Minds…

Sounds intriguing… youtube/facebook are doing everything they can to screw themselves as a company.

Figure it’s worth $1k. Better than most videogame kickstarters

lol. This is one of those situations where I should be spamming the gif, but I’m not sure for whom the gif spams. you for not knowing after all my plugging, or me for coming face to face that all my plugging has been for naught. either way, here’s their site.

it’s one of those new sites that are popping up in the wake of YouTube’s adpocalypse. I like them and they have a few new things that are making them technically different from the others, but the reason I’m posting here is because…well, we talk about money and here’s a chance to jump in at the proverbial bottom floor of this company’s development. If we make moolah (sorry. I’m old af. ) then all the better. Check it out and see if you’re down.

Good luck!

I just booked my week long vacation so currently out of expendable $$ to dump into anything else.

Thread requires a Cryme Tyme video… Money, money, yeah, yeah…

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/invested-amazon-ipo-millionaire-today-222717783.html

If you invested $5,000 during Amazon’s IPO debut 20 years ago it’d be worth 2.4m+ today.

I’m speculating that LTC should get to 50 USD. XRP is a deflationary currency, meaning it cant be mined anymore and Japan uses it as an alternative to their currency.

First article is just showing that crypto is still a small market.
Second is more speculation that we could see Ripple being a 1-3 dollar (.32 cents atm!) coin in a year or 2. All in all, any of the big alt coins are safe plays in the long term.

The bubble’s about to pop:

VIX, VXN, VXD, and VXV all gained like 30% or more in gains. VIX went up by 46%. If you know how to bet against the markets, then you could be really rich. Too bad I don’t know what’s going on…
