Let's See if We Can Do Something About Our Boredom~ Q&A Thread

I should also mention I have trouble doing cr.lp cr.lp cr.lk xx CU (or just cr.lk xx CU). It’s the same problem, the CU just doesn’t want to come out. Maybe I’m doing the same thing wrong for both of them? Any ideas what it might be?

It sounds like your trying to cancel the cu easy too fast. When I was starting out, I had this problem with cr LK xx PW as Juri.

Curious if there is any advantage/disadvantage to doing a st. LP over a cr. LP after a Criminal Upper FADC. I can’t recall too many people not doing cr. LP, which is why I ask.

I find that timing and executing st. LP > st. cl. MP is easier after a FADC. There’s one less active frame on st. LP than cr. LP (it also has one more frame advantage on block). With a plink on the st. MP, it seems very hard to miss. Sometimes if I do cr. LP > st. cl. MP (with a plink) I’ll get a st. LP. Don’t have this problem with st. LP > st. cl. MP

The only disadvantage I could see to st. LP is that maybe it causes more push back which would cause st. cl. MP to become st. far MP on certain characters.

cr.lp to st.mp is a 2 frame trap. While st.lp to st.mp is a 3 frame trap. So I think the first one would be a better frame trap if you drop the combo.

Also does anyone know if the lp CU FADC cr.lp is a 1 frame or 2 frame link? Because if it’s a 1 framer? wouldn’t double tapping the cr.lp be pointless?

Speaking of frame traps,

How exactly do they work? I know they are leaving an intentional gap to get a counter hit but above it’s said that cr.lp to st.mp is a 2 frame gap, but on the frame data it says cr.lp is +2 on block while st.mp has 6 frames of startup. Wouldn’t that make it a 4 frame gap?

Lol oh crap I read the frame data wrong last night :frowning: you are right it’s a 4 frame gap. I got nothing

Oh ok lol I felt really stupid like “Why is it 2 frames?” I thought there was something I was missing.

you know the setup momochi does to ryu in the corner? ex ruffian dash 2x jumping hp. i was wondering, is it an unblockable or just a really ambiguous jump in?

If I remember it’s a fake xup. Switch it up with a j.mk for a true xup. Not unblockable.

Edit : Question, I don’t know if this requires it’s own thread or not, but I was curious as to who you guys secondary to complement Cody whether it’s to cover up his bad MU’s or to practice a certain aspect of Cody’s gameplay (EX: Pocketing Chun to become fundamentally stronger in the footsie game with Cody) Just asking because I’ve been using Adon lately and wondering who you all 2nd.

If you use j.mk it’s an unblockable against yun and dhalism

I alt akuma. But I don’t really use him for counter picking. But it helps against guile, cammy, sagat, and rog.

How should I play Cody? I pretty much picked up this game recently just to finally play it and I always wanted to pick up either Cody or Evil Ryu because they are my two favorite characters in this game. I’m going to stick to Cody but like I asked, how should I play him? I played Ermac in MK9 and he is generally known as a pure zoning character. Can Cody be played the same way? Or will I have to mix in rushdown with zoning?

what are somethings I should work on?

Cody is balanced enough that you can choose your own style. 90% of online cody warriors rely on pressing buttons in your face and, due to his slow walkspeed, use jumps, focus attacks and dashes to get in.

I’m personally a very defensive player (unfortunately), i usually let the other guy hang himself and cody does amazingly at this as well. He has very good zoning with normals, but since you’re not the one dealing the cards, there’s a lot less room for error and it can bite you in the end.

It also depends a lot on the matchup, but the best cody player would mesh these two styles and mix rushdown with zoning to throw the opponent off.

I’m not familiar with mk, but if ermac is the most zoning oriented character in that game, he’d relate to guile, dhalsim and sagat way more than cody, so to your question i’d answer “not really”.

No, Ermac is not the most zoning oriented character, but his game revolves more around the opponent’s mistakes. He’s like the ultimate wait and react character if I were to describe him.

Is there a list of crack kick > U1 punishes anywhere? I know about Blanka’s U1 and Cammy’s DP. Are there others?

Off topic, but GGs to Canadian Skater. It was nice to play a fellow Cody from the forum. I’ve only done a few games with melovegames. Good stuff Skater…was a nice long proper set too.

Ya ggs to you too. Had a lot of fun and hopefully improved my game.

Also against a blocked blanka ultra 1. Cody can do ultra 2 right after you block the first low attack as he jumps in the air. It saves you a ton of chip damage and makes punishing a lot easier because timing is a lot more strict if you block the full thing

@Canadian_sk8ter I’m going to add you, we should run some sets too! Hopefully our connections go together well.

Aaaaaand, does anyone here have huge trouble against Adon? I just got off playing a set against a reallllly good Adon and it’s pretty tough, how do you guys deal with it personally? (I’m familiar with this forums MU knowledge of Adon, just seeing if there’s anyone here who’s got more tech/info concerning the MU.)

@Sk8ter, yeah man was a lot of fun. Was nice to mix in Juri vs you as well.

GGs today Seikano. Was a bit laggy causing errors in some matches, but still a lot of fun. I’ve really enjoyed playing you and Sk8ter. Hope to play both of you again soon. Would be pretty sweet if we could do a 3 man lobby of Cody and alts and do some cool analyzing. Definitely learned a trick or two from both of you.

As for Adon, I don’t mind this match at all. Not sure how much advice I can give because I sort of just “play the match”. I approach him from more of a zoning stand point until I have him in a good position to pressure. Almost all Adon’s are going to be trying to get you off them after the first or 2nd knock down, so I usually go for stuff to reversal stuff their DP the first few knock downs. I tend to focus more on being on the ready for anti airs than playing footsies with him because the inevitable jaguar kick is on the way. I really like cr. MK in this match (kinda like with Guy too). Can go under jaguar kicks for punish and if I remember correctly, will beat it as well. Of course, use it on reaction and such. Be ready to anti-air Adon after he knocks you down. Even good Adon’s like to nj attack, then nj attack again on Cody off a knockdown to mix in that cancel into air jaguar-kick or bait EX Zonk.

Zonk is great for beating jaguar kick.

Maybe post a replay or two.

Out of curiosity, does anyone ever use Cody’s kara throw? I know it’s nothing special.

I think since the range is nothing compared to Ken and he doesn’t have the speed to back it up like Vega it’s not worth using at all imo.

Btw, Idk if anyone saw my post or not in the MU thread but, I’m having serious trouble against Yun, I’ve played a FT10 against Julio if any of you know him, really good Yun, search him up if you don’t know him. But I’m having trouble AA’ing his divekicks to get in and shoulder pressure. It’s -3 on block and c.lk is able to punish it but sometimes the shoulder is out of range to be hit and it’s fairly difficult to punish with c.lk on block. It sucks cause where I’m from there are no good Yuns and I have no Yun friends on XBL. :frowning: halp
