Much better! I look forward to seeing you at one of Zach’s meets.
Mandel if anyone gave you shit for playing chun or ken that is fucking rediculous. I wouldn’t like to think the 3s crew is that lame. If we ever plan to play serious we have to know how to fight these characters. Playing ltb is a blast when he shows and you may remember I played yun pretty ok at tim’s house.
I mention this just about at every moment but I cannot use the sticks like I can a d-pad. Other wise I would play yun more often. I do try every once in a while but I can’t do shit really.
I personally totally welcome you playing chun on our side of things if the marvel rotation gets too long. (or anybody else who wants to play top tier).
I’m not opposed to top tier I just play makoto because she is how I think so to speak and I am more comfortable with her then other characters.
Sadly I do a lot better with my terrible ken just because too many people random parry my makoto.
anyhow, long rant short, if someone wants to play top-tier and feels like we are holding them back, sorry it’s not my intention at least.
I moved back to the TC so I won’t be coming out to GW anymore. Thanks again Gray Fox and umbrellastyle for the card swipes and GG’s to everyone I played while I lived there.
That’s pretty lame that people would actually oppose high-tier use. I play Chun, too. I just play Necro and Elena when I don’t give a damn about losing. I’d be whoring high-tier left and right at GW. If someone plays MSS/Row/etc at GW, do people get pissed? I think not. Why should 3s be any different? :arazz:
Get on those stick skills, fox! Makoto will work a lot better for ya, I guarantee it. But the PDX peeps will parry everything :wasted:. DAMN, there are some insane players down there. I just watched through all their youtube vids finally
IM IN THIS NOW!! Who wants to play some smash brothers/Soul Calibur/Tekken? I need some comp, not that i’m omega beast or anything, I have a few decent characters in each game.
What about Scanzo?
Best hype man evar.
Okay i went 2 gw last nite and i went 2 play some MVc2 its official the 2p side’s Hp button is screwed :wasted: my team worked half ass thanks 2 that man what a drag
and Kuenai may i ask when zachs meets are ? Cause if there the thursdays im S.O.L
SSJxX, I play smash. I’m in Issaquah if you’re down.
I’m down, just dont have a way out there =P
If you got to the gameworks thread, obviously you’ve been on the Northwest: Discussion and Matchmaking board. It’s the thread near the top that says “Preppy’s Monthly Poker/Games night:___”
Preppy is Zach, and although it says monthly, it sometimes goes bi-weekly. I don’t go there very often, being up where I am  It’s hella worth the effort to get out there, though. You’ll be destroyed by JMar, Kuan, Row, Mandel, Preppy, Cody, and some of the other guys. Maybe Keith and I can give you some equal comp, though.
Switch your team for something a little more fun. You’re using a mid-tier runaway team. At least go SSC or something if you’re playing runaway. Otherwise your matches will be VERY short-lived.
Where do you live?
I agree completely. Nothing would make me happier than to have more top tier at GW. I find that I get absolutely stomped by Chuns, so it’d be nice to have more practice against them
Shit, it’s wednesday already? Man…
See you all tomorrow, then!
Nobody necessarily gave me shit for it, but I definitely don’t feel like it would be received well if I did walk up with Chun or Ken. Which is one of the main reasons why I don’t play that game anymore. I don’t play enough to maintain a good level of play with Dudley, so that means I’d have to play a top tier due to the amount of time I put into the game along with how I can at least be somewhat competitive. I myself (dunno if anyone else feels this way) feel that the lack of top tiers is what’s keepin people here back from improving on a grand scale. But I’m so into Marvel now that I may just be talkin out my ass. Dunno…
Which is why we need YOU, Deezo! Play some top tier tomorrow, for the good of the land!
I honestly dont think anyone cares if you play top tier at GW, and if they do then they need to grow up. Before I got really into Elena and other characters, I played a lot of Ken and Chun at GW on the weekends and nobody seemed to say anything or act differently than they would if I picked someone else. In reality, unless it’s a match between beasts in 3S, then tiers don’t really matter. Look how Jason destroys everyone at GW with Oro. It’s not like Marvel where top tier rapes low/mid tier when the two players are equally skilled, or a bad player can potentially beat a decent/good player if they use top tier and the good player doesn’t. Character effectiveness gets exponentially better in Marvel as you go up in tier where 3S its far more linear with far smaller delta between the top and bottom characters.
Given that, I disagree that not playing against top tiers stunts improvement. If your competition is good then you can only grow in skill in any game (Marvel, 3S, Poker, Chess, almost anything that involves interaction between two or more people). The only thing you lose is experience in matchups with your character against [X], but [X] can also be in the wide variety of other characters you play against which might come in handy in a tournament. Not only that, but so many people play top tier that its hard not to get those matches in anyway, and for that same reason you might already have that experience if you’ve played the game long enough.
We’ll have to agree to disagree and here’s why…
-As far as the whole tiers thing go I definitely disagree. Sure somebody can beast with the high mid/mid/low tier characters, we’ve all seen it time and time again. Those characters are even really fun as well, but in the end of it all, the meat and potatoes is always Yun/Chun/Ken. Jason is a 3S beast, I’d venture to say he’s the best right now, no disrespect, but what exactly does it say about a scene when an Oro player is the best player? Either he’s leaps and bounds beyond everyone else, or people don’t really understand the matchups. I’d say it’s some of both. I have (once every blue moon) seen him play Chun. So I suppose there’s that. And besides all that, over 100 genei jin activations last Evo? Trust me, I’d really rather hear about 100 brave dances than 100 genei jins, even discounting how much I hate Yun.
-Here’s why I believe not playing against top tiers stunt growth. What do you do against them? Do you go about your daily strategy or do you keep the minor details in mind for your character against theirs? I played that one guy from PDX last 3S tourney at Zach’s(I can’t remember his name but he’s Mexican) and he played Ken. I played Ken, and midway through that match (oh yeah his name is Anthony or somethin) I realized that I DON’T REMEMBER HOW TO FIGHT KEN! Silly isn’t it? But I realized that I can’t remember the last time I fought a Ken before I fought his. And I got SCRAPED! And I’m not gonna attest his pwnage to me not remembering how to fight Ken, he’s definitely a hella better 3S player than I am, but my lack of knowledge definitely didn’t help. Not one bit. I have no idea how to fight two bar Chun Li in the 3rd round. Do I know how to fight Chun without a super? Fuck yeah. Exactly the same as fighting Storm before she gets two bars. Rush her the fuck down, it’s just common sense. I couldn’t tell you how to fight a Yun as Dudley except to cause wakeup situations while he doesn’t have a super. I think off the top of my head, there’s maybe 2,3 Kens, 2 Chuns, and 1 Yun up here.
But yeah, 3S! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
:looney: :arazz:
I agree on some notes, and disagree with some others.
Not playing high-tier DOES stunt your skill development. Very much. Because Paul and I play so much high tier, we get good at the games we play pretty quick. I played Ken from the beginning, and I gotta say, between Chun and Ken, I know I can compete in a tourney, given I get an hour of competitive casual play in with different people beforehand. I’m a little rusty at the moment. Marvel owns me now.
Oro is an extremely good character if you know how to use him. There was a (now retired) Jap player who consistently beat Daigo in Daigo’s prime. Can’t remember the name, but when you think about it, some players just know how to use their character better than the others. Because of that, they make their char top-tier. Some of the big things about the top-tier chars is that they’re easy to play ('cept Yun). Think about it. Safe pokes, damaging supers, easy meter… they start out good, but only have so much room to grow through strategy. Look at characters like Hugo, Urien, and Oro, on the other hand. With Urien, you’ve got unblockables and GREAT punish charge moves, with Hugo, one parry is all it takes to rape your opponent out of 1/4-1/2 of their life. Oro’s got a super-chip super with unblockable options on some (which is even more damaging than Genei-jin if done well) and another that forces the opponent to run away and block while he closes in on you for a throw or massive combo. Your choice. Point is, expertise makes all the difference. Imagine what it would be like if the same people who laughed the FFA guys out of SBO actually came over here to play their Goukis and Yangs, etc.
Tip: Don’t rush down a Chun without a super bar unless you plan on going airborne or slowing down outside of kick range. She’ll c.mk your behind right back to where you started. If she’s at the right spacing, she’ll b.HP your ass, and if she’s got her meter part-way built up, there’s a free super.
Ummm…You want to annoy the opponent with Chun.
And her long-range pokes ARE annoying. But then again, ever watched Ohnuki? He plays a rushdown Chun. It’s scary :wasted:
I remember dreaming that I was practicing charge partitioning… Man, I really should practive that way more (AKA play more) and stop playing Urien like such a scrub.
Ohnuki, I’ve heard of him. Rushdown Chun…just sounds unorthodox…
