Learning how to solder!

I get mine here.
http://www.hobbyengineering.com/SectionSP.html

Could I ask how would you wire up a JLF with a custom pcb? And what pcb’s I need.

At this point you should probably use the search function. Most of what you’re asking has been covered in extensive detail in other threads.

Yeah just seeing if I do get replies, not like I’m going to sit here and wait for answers to be fed to me if nothing is said or as I’m waiting. =P

I understand that I’ll need the madcatz fight pad and the chimp to dual mod, Now I’ll need to research on soldering them and how to wire them up with my 360 TE. And if I am correct assembled ChImps mean I don’t need to do any soldering on them? Due to screw terminals?

I have something better then a weller;however, if you have any remote interest in soldering, spend simply $40, get a Weller soldering station (or something comparable) and keep it for life. They are solid soldering irons that will WORK, like a soldering iron should. Unlike some other professions that say “only a poor craftsman blames his tools” or some BS like that, soldering does not fall under that statement. Radioshack irons will only get you so far, and will give you hours and hours upon headaches.

This goes for anyone else, if you feel like you are bad at soldering (solder isn’t sticking, pads lifting, etc), buy a new iron with temperature control, like a Weller soldering station, and give it another go. You will certainly be pleasantly surprised, and have a new found/first enjoyment in the hobby. I know how it sounds, but my personal experiences were hours spent with a radio shack 15w iron, and piss poor quality work to show. I picked up a new iron, and everything just worked. The iron stayed heated, so I created a solid bond with the metal I was working with, it started up fast, and my iron would finally clean up when I attempted to clean it.

I thought you just did not know how to solder.
Laugh.

I always use stranded wire.
Solid, like rtdzign said, will put stress to contact pads if wire bent.

Stranded is cooler and better for Quick Disconnect.
Especially for Open Barrel Terminals, which I don’t see how work with solid.

Crimping tool is a tool that crimps.
Not all of them have the cutter and stripper like you say.

I like to use 22 AWG, because that is size of wire in Wire Harness from Sanwa and Seimitsu.
Some people use smaller, like 24 or 26 AWG.
EJM and Gummowned even use 30 AWG.

Work does sometimes call for higher gauge wire though.

.187" or .110" Quick Disconnect depend of what you use for.

ChImp with Cthulhu and Imp together, and has Auto-detect.
Cthulhu is just a PCB that does PlayStation 3 and PC.
Imp is switchless switch; no need DPDT Switch.

Use ChImp or Cthulhu or Multi-Console Chthulhu you want for Dual Mod.
It does not matter because those only take care of PlayStation 3 side, not Xbox 360.

Since Cthulhu and its variants only do PS3, you need something taking care of Xbox 360.
Will need Common Ground Xbox 360 Controller PCB, like a Mad Catz Controller, Mad Catz FightPad, Mad Catz FightStick.

You will use USB of whatever PCB you use.
Cthulhu does not come with USB, so that means you use USB from Xbox 360 PCB.

Why would you remove TE PCB?
That is the support for Xbox 360!
Unless the TE PCB is PS3, but why replace that with Cthulhu?
Unless is to get Auto-detect from the ChImp or adding other Consoles with Multi-Console.

.110" for Microwitches that you see in standard Japanese Buttons.
.187" for Microswitches you see in Joystick and Happ Buttons and some Japanese Buttons (Sanwa OBS-30, Sanwa Illuminated).

Follow the diagram?
Connect Input (Directions, Action Buttons) of each PCB together.
Also connect the VCC and Ground together.

One USB.

Follow diagram?
Wire Harness go to Directionals on PCB.

What PCB you need?
Whatever PCB you are using that is Common Ground.

I’m answering these questions not really understanding what.

Yes, I have high-end soldering stations.

Oh yeah, I was quoting you for truth. Weller is solid, I emphasized on that too. Sorry about not being clear.

Diagrams… Time to search!

So I’m guessing this is the chimp/cthulhu only? Time to find pad hacking.

http://arkadesticks.com/hackedpads/Xbox360wired.jpg and this is the xbox 360 madkatz pcb?

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=184787 imp?

Man I need to find a thread with a 360 pcb + chimp dual mod…

Now your thread isn’t about soldering anymore and you are asking questions that are already answered in Sticky Thread:

Intro, Rules, Tutorials & Info (Read Before Posting!)

You will find a whole lot of answers there. Just try reading up on everything in there. He lists the slagcoin.com site as well. Hope that helps.

oh sweet thanks.

Man, I really thought you know things already.
Laugh.

What is?
I don’t see anything.

No, that is a Microsoft.

And Imp is used in that mod.

You have an Xbox 360 TE?
There are many Threads on this.

First Page, First Post.

You want this.
http://www.donovanmyers.com/2010/02/dual-mod-a-mad-catz-fightstick-tournament-edition-using-toodles-chimp/

I’ve only been on here for a little bit =( Taught me how to use photoshop quite a bit though! Thanks a lot JDM. Hmm I’ll probably have to look at 2 different diagrams to process all of this into my tiny brain.

So this is the padhack http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=197388

So how come you replacing your TE PCB with a Mad Catz Xbox 360 Controller PCB?

Oh, is this Dual Mod for a Custom?
But you mentioned TE PCB on Second Page.

I am confuse.
