Oh and here’s another trick that I use, try it out and maybe you’ll like it.

Jump in with a Crane normal, usually fierce or roundhouse or forward, then do Crane Cr. Jab 1x or 2x, Crane Cr. Strong -> Oga. You can pick which side to go to, or even drop straight down on their heads!

I find sliding is way too easy to do pianoing. I can do them both with ease, but sliding is just way way too easy not to.

I immediately don’t like this, you’re throwing out 1 or 2 normals which are both negative on block :frowning: This will work against people with no experience against Gen, but anyone who knows Crane stance (and let’s face it, people are catching on) they can just push a button and beat this string with ease. Plus you’re throwing away a much better mixup for an unsafe Oga… Why would you encourage someone to do this in competitive play? :frowning:

If I’m eager for an Oga mixup I stance change through mantis to Crane. Mantis Cr.lk Cr.lp Crane Cr.lp xx Oga.

Nice play against F. Champ.

Sim is a tough and frustrating match-up. You did a great job keeping composure even when you were behind. I am impressed

I agree, I used to do that to ppl, but anyone that knows Gen and his oga will block that 100% of the time, works well for ppl with no gen knowledge. instead of that try crane jump roundhouse crane crouch strong into oga, though still unsafe, its much tighter that the above. but why do that instead of more safe poke options

Even more agreeing lol, why would you throw away a mix-up for a REALLY bad gimmick!!! I think Oga’s should have their use without a doubt, but not like that at all. Sneaky metre build, bait, ambiguous cross up, chip out etc

I haven’t posted or been active in AGES, super sad.

Its not like I said throw it out at every opportunity. It is situational, if I’m losing a round really badly sometimes I’ll go for it and if the oga lands, well you know how much damage oga -> ultra does.

@azndude108 Its just that Crane *(KKK) cr wp can be reversaled on block by specials with DP speed. Vs high level play, a blocked Oga can also be countered in the same manner. As you grow as a player you’ll start to understand. Do what works until it doesn’t.

That sounds so patronising lol, but I do agree with you obviously. Azndude, if a round is going hard, do better things, not worse things. If you get a jump in, you can throw out cr.lk’s to catch them mashing throw then style change through one of the kicks and go for an overhead and mixup from there. If you think they’re going to just sit there and block, kara throw… MUCH better than doing something which is negative on block, followed by something that ALSO leaves you negative on block.

I know this isn’t the right place to post for it but while I’m posting I’ll just add I’d really like to learn the Gen vs Gen matchup so if anyone wants to give it a go, I’m on XBL Sylverwerewolf and I’m from the south of England.

Well I’m going to a tournament tonight and I’ll try to get some footage =D

If you get a throw… whoop dee do. If I’m losing a round badly, say I have 10% and my opponent has 50% and momentum, I would rather go for the oga that if it works, I win. If it doesnt work, well I would have lost the round anyway. I don’t do this often though, its sort of like a hail mary pass.

Throw setups a lot of things.

i agree. IMO gens throw game is very important. for one you setup the safe jump, empty jump low, cross up oga, unblockables against some characters, and whatever other mixups you can think of.

on the flip side you can work in gens frame traps which dont work well if the opponent isnt afraid of the throw

It just keeps the pressure on. Gen is - on frames unless you hit their feet I think. But still even if you don’t know how to do a lot of safe jump or OS’s, just do a cross up and work frame traps. Going into s.Strong, right away can be really good instead of going into c.Short, c.Jab. Even Cross up, TC2 can be nice. That way at least you are keeping safe pressure. I only do tick oga’s if I know I can get away with them. Other than that. I try to play with a more solid game plan.

hmmm… really feeling all you guys are saying. but one thing I dont Get with Gen is how to stay in your opponents face, if I try mp the pushback is too much to keep up the pressure and hands is even worse. any tips of safe pressure options that lasts for like ten seconds or more?

dunno if youre going to get 10 seconds lol, but you can get 3-4 attempts at hit confirming into something sometimes if you use the hp/mk target combo to move you back in, mixed with st.mp.

i usually steer clear of hands on block unless im fishing for super

Thanks a million

s.Strong, forward, s.Strong. All day baby. Unless you are playing vs a masher.

10 seconds of pressure? I think not even Bison can… anyway once ver.2012 is out and done I’d like to gather all informations regarding setups, cross ups and so on… and put them in a good pdf for print. Like a sort of Gen advanced guide to carry around. Because (for me at least) that’d be the only way to memorize them all… And I guess that with the help of some of you we can make a nice work

If you’d like we could get a free domain, get a Mobile phone script and make it a website, so people can go to it on their phone and we could make it mobile friendly. maybe something in the future, but makes it easier.

This will be helpful because I am currently working up a project where I’m going to do a video broadcast on youtube with Rhyllis(possibly) to give insight into match-ups. This will be a video recorded on my guests and me. While showing game play. We will be talking about match-ups and tips that will help other players.
