Laura Combo/Tech Thread

Desk is at it again:

Seems like a Laura could make good use of this with some practice.

Not sure if anyone has realized this but the first part of Twist Barrage whiff animation is deceptive.
You can actually purposely whiff f+HP and go for a LK command grab.

When you whiff f+HP Laura takes another step forward but before the forward step comes out Laura is already recovered from f+HP.

This actually leads into what I presume is an OS which uses this tech.

F+HP > HP > LK Command Grab > HP Bolt Charge

If the F+HP whiffs, you go for the command grab
If it connects then you do the full combo of Twist Barrage into HP Bolt Charge

Caveats:
F+HP is pretty easy to interrupt
If Twist Barrage is blocked - you eat a punish unless activate VT which makes you at least +3.
If both f+HP and LK Command grab whiffs then you eat a punish.

This OS isn’t that great but its good for whiff punishing opponents with long recoveries like Zangiefs charged fierce.

I might make a video of this later

So I’m watching Wolfkrone Laura and he’s really good but I think where he shines is with his ex fb setups, however I barely use them. There are no past broadcasts on Wolfkrone twitch so I can’t study his videos, could anyone pls share some of the best ex fb setups?

Hi, i did this last tournament: https://clips.twitch.tv/electronicdojo/InexpensiveZebraBleedPurple

Just wanna say a few thing bout this setup:
First it’s dependant of your spacing, that mean you cannot do it everytime.
Second there is a hole between the second and the third hit of the hp clap. So if you move quickly your opponent hurtbox forward you can reset the opponent.
Third and last; MOST LEGIT SETUP for this reset + 2 mixups:

…Ex Clap XX Sweep (stun on sweep) XX Charge lvl3 hp clap XX fwd hp XX hp bolt…
…Ex Clap XX Sweep (stun on sweep) XX Charge lvl3 hp clap XX fwd hp XX Ex cmd grab or dash fwd cmd grab
…Ex Clap XX Sweep (stun on sweep) XX Charge lvl3 hp clap XX fwd hp XX dash fwd XX Neutral Jump

P.S. Watch out its harder to do when you’re in vtrigger but its possible
(btw i’ll try to post some of my matches on this forum  )

Really good stuff Akram. If I didn’t hate the mirror I would have asked you to play some sets

In this vid at 1:13 you see wolfkrone doing cr.mp, qcf.lp on block, and a few seconds later he does cr.mp, ex qcf p on hit. This looks like a OS since it’s really weird to use cr.mp, ex.qcf p as is, but i can’t get my mind around what he’s doing exactly, any ideas?

He really just did MP xx EX bolt without any OS. I think he just went for the guaranteed damage since the slide is very negative on block.
I found the replay ID if you wanna see the inputs: 4AB161CC5

still he could just have done cr.mp into qcf mp for the same punish so it’s really weird, feels like an execution error if there’s no OS inputs, thanks for checking it out.

Not sure if this is well known I’ve found that after backthrow, command throw or qcf.mp, k (normal and vtrigger) into stun you can do:

BVS cancel into charged hp fb x3, j.mk, fb hits, nj. hp… your favourite punish, minimum 400dmg at max scaling and more than 500 if canceled into vtrigger, hp, ex fb qcf.hp.

j.hp is less consistent than j.mk afaik. The problem is that they can probably quick escape stun by mashing commands but I don’t know how to test it, can anyone help?

Still even if it can be escaped it could be useful when fighting someone that doesn’t mash out of stun.

Hi, i found this a few weeks ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_5Q-rjjc1w

It’s easy to do on reaction. Dont do it too early tho.
Thanks to Fuudo for showing at evo that mika’s v-reversal makes the last ex moonsault hits whiffs

Edit: Oblivioner, it’s too risky to do that combo because your opponent can escape from it. Too risky in tournament at least. GinoDaCampo has all the stun optimal combo on his twitter. Other than this; if you just want swag stun combo be creative man :).

Damn, if we continue like this Laura vs Nash will become a 7-3

So, I literally never ever use the VS back-VS forward quick succession. It’s limiting my shenanigans so I’m asking for some of your favorite surprise setups using this mechanic. Thanks in advance.

I use it mostly in st.hp, BVS, FVS, command throw / backthrow. You can condition them with st.hp, BVS, qcf.p / BVS overhead so that once they are used to block they fail for the command throw.

Also another classic setup is ex.fb and when the fb is getting closer to them, dash, cr.mp cancelled into BVS-FVS command throw before the fb hits.

Can anyone pls explain what’s happening in this anti throw tech OS?

It seems like he always buffers qcf after cr. MP, if they block he does nothing, in the other cases he presses MP and then again qcf+PPP either to confirm the hit into MP Bolt + follow-up or to catch the backjump with an EX bolt. Not a great OS I’d say.

So you have to hit confirm Cr. Mp no less, indeed not very useful, thanks for the reply.

Nice video of fireball vortex:

I dont see this in the combo section, J. Lk cross up combos into st. Lk, cr. Lp, st. Lk, qcf. Lp. It doesn’t work non crossup, overall it gives 150 dmg, 200 if comboed into ex qcf p. It’s character specific since it works with Chun or Alex but doesn’t with ryu for example.

what are the benefits of using lk instead of mk as a crossup? I mean you have better options after you land the mk instead of the lk?

afaik it’s faster and has more active frames so it’s better to interrupt attacks, and less hit stun makes it great for command throw setups that are hard to react. Besides it’s more ambiguous than j.mk which is easier to guess if it’s a crossup.

I do agree though that most of the time it’s better to do j.mk, st.mp into combo for 225 damage, j.lk combos barely gives 130 damage which means nothing in this game.

Ok guyz, let’s talk about normal xx VSB xx CA and why you should start to love it:

  • it works with a lot of special cancellable normals (more specifically: 5MP, 2MP, 5MK, 5HP, 2HP)
  • it works on CH too
  • it’s a legit combo, so they won’t be able to escape it if your normal hit
  • it works from pretty far away, even if not at max distance
  • it’s probably the safest way to fish for CA
  • it’s easier to confirm than st. HK xx CA or than fireball xx CA
If you happen to have full meter at the end of a round this is probably the best way to burn it.
