As far as “non-dancing” fight scenes, I think Jackie did really well in Gorgeous. His first fight with the hired fighter he gets his ass beat the fuck down. The fighter was toying with him and kicked the fuck outta him. The next time around, after a period of training in the movie, it’s a lot more even… but that hired fighter is still unbelievable. He does a fucking bicycle kick. I’ve never seen a kick like that in real life. At the end of that fight scene, even though Jackie barely wins, he admits that he really lost, because the hired fighter was nowhere near his weight class, and if he was, Jackie would have gotten raped.
The two actors that Jackie made a lot of movies with are Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. The three think of each other as brothers and you see them with cameo appearances in each other’s movies all the time. Sammo was really impressive in his older movies, I was shocked to see him struggle so much in the American market. His english is horrible, and even though he is a really good actor in his HK films, his trouble with the language completely destroyed his acting ability. Yuen Biao hasn’t tried to make a splash into the American market, but he was pretty kickass, even though Sammo and Jackie were more popular and made more movies.
What’s up late night? Me, it’s resting and being relived that my best friend is going to be okay. He was pretty sick earlier, but it seems to have been a stomach virus. It should be over with by tomorrow. Back to resting for me then…
9:10 in my area, still a good while from l8 night. I suppose that I’ll take my generic Benadryl medicine to knock me out, since I don’t have work tomorrow. I started thinking that surely, at some point in time, there must have been a sex olympics. Or, just some kind of sex competition where men and women could determine who is the best. I started thinking about how it’d go down, and I had quite a bracket/quarterfinals system worked out too, complete with a somewhat fair and balanced system of judging.
The only real shame would be if this kind of thing actually didn’t exist.
It’s the movie where Jackie focuses more on acting than fighting, as there aren’t really any fight scenes in the movie. It’s a love story. He get’s his ass whupped pretty hard by the hired guy, who was toying with him the whole time. The rematch has some great parts (you would remember that one kick if you seen it… you’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen it before). I liked the movie because it was really clean as far as the fighting. There are some funny parts in the fight scene, just because Jackie Chan is like that, but it’s still bomb IMO.
Actually, there is a kind of sex competition… they have the American Cocksucking Championship, which came out with a line of DVDs. I don’t know if that qualifies, but it’s pretty funny to watch, even though I’ve only seen one. That’s a championship title that I’d love to see a girl tell her parents… “Daddy, Mommy, I’m the reigning American Cocksucking Champion!”
Sadly, I already put Jackie under the “inferior” category in my book, which doesn’t really allow me to fully enjoy any of his good work. I mean, how can I get into the film if I am bias against the star?

I just watched a documentary on HBO called “Live from Baghdad”. It was ok I guess, about some newspeople who decided to to stay in the capital during the Gulf War bombings in '91. The other night I watched another documentary about children around one of the large cities with a lot of Iraqi resistance. IMO it was better. One boy was the target for the show, and the American/British newspeople followed him around on his everyday activites, which included going to school, making explosives, and keeping lookout for some men in the area in charge of resistance. The boy was only like 13, and he knew how to hold and fire anti-tank weapons and rifles. Near the end, a British camera man was shot by gunfire when he raised a white flag. After all of this, the boy eventually stops helping the resistance and wants to learn more about cameras and journalism. Man, I just can’t imagine what’s going on all over the middle east. I hope that there will soon be a less violent outcome for both sides (or all sides)
