Late night at SRK, version 0, champion edition!

I would scout this thread, but it’s always ending up on like, page 3 after the latest post. It’s good to know Slide thinks of me halfway across the world. No homo.

How are things going out there, Slide? You seem to be sneaking in some posts here and there. A lot more often before your current situation.

By the way Slide, I just saw this sneak preview of Transformers, and this giant robot was running wild in Qater, blowing shit up. You got any huge robotic scorpions out there?

The obvious answer, of course, is porn.

that was my first suspicion.

what’s up monbaby, hows life.

I saw transformers…

It was pretty good…

I kinda fell asleep though…

At the moment i’m livin with my uncle workin 6 days a week painting…

Illegal immagrants FTW!..

you fell asleep during tf?? i haven’t seen it yet.

Just the middle part…

It started of really good…

Then around the middle i kinda dozed off…

It was a good movie though…

I’m surprised you remembered me.

I remember someone had a complaint in here, about how the TOLs moved too fast.
This thread actually has a bit more control, cause it goes so slow now people could post up and go at a decent speed. It’s not uncontrollably fast paced where you spend your hour or so reading to catch up and then come back the next day and have to do it again missing out on newer things you mightve wanted to speak on.

Everything’s ok over here, got a few personal problems I’m trying to deal with and accept, that came out of nowhere yesterday.

Yeah I’ve been posting more than I’ve usually done over the past year. Mainly cause we got wireless commercial internet in this building. So I can browse away, instead of actually doing work. I remember when I was doing tactical(combat arms) stuff I wanted to do this “behind the desk” type stuff instead, but now that I’m actually doing that i’d much rather do tactical. But all in all, i’d rather not do either one.

It’s like the military somehow makes being safer, suck. How does that work?

Any word on the vf5 360 release date?
Oh also, have you tried that GGPO thing? How’s that?
And btw, what’s up with the sudden acceptance of online play? I remember years ago that shit was looked waaaaaay down upon. Had to act like you didn’t play online and stuff(as long as you could make it to an occasional tourneys offline though). There was this one guy named Viet Cong that used to be all about the future of the genre being online play and he was flamed to hell back in 03. Now everyone is speaking like that though. Maybe everyone should just do both, in whichever is accessible at the time.

Yep, we do. Just rammed the SUV into it’s left leg on monday and made it kneel. Right now people are in the process of throwing rocks at it’s face to make it cry oily tears.:cybot: <- a cyber smiley. there’s your use for that.

j/k obviously. The transformers movie? To be honest I’m not excited about it, or really care about it. Even when I was younger I didn’t really care too much about Transformers, i liked GI Joe better, but even with all that I was outside running around more than i was watching cartoons. I saw on Amazon though they got the generation 1 boxset with the old movie in it too.

And speaking of DVDs and boxsets, House season 3 is coming out in August! I haven’t seen any of season 3 yet, and i purposely avoided that House thread on here cause people just throw around spoilers like combo tips.

I have my “collections” to consider.

that’s on drive 7. Ext drives FTW.

Dang, this thread is still going! :looney:

I’ve been up since 7PM Thursday so I figure this should count as late night for me, yeah?

9 HDs are completely nuts… I have an 80GB drive which skisonic considers absolutely tiny, considering the amount of downloading I do… I guess i’m just efficient with keeping only the necessaries on my HD that’s kept me from ever hitting the “lol ur out of space” line. I mean shit, I keep my program downloads/installers in “c:\fun”, like i’m still using DOS prompts.

Also, hey monbaby, what happened to the Chii avatar I liked that one… took me a second to realize it was you, since I am really used to Chii in your AV.

In more other news, I’m learning CvS2 again, and my fingers on the right hand are kind of in pain, it’s settled now that I stopped for a bit, and my left wrist hurts. Totally not cool, but I guess it’ll be worth it when I can actually play CvS2 casually at Evo World, and attempt to keep up.

Back to the coal mines (my affectionate name for CvS2 learning)

9 drives is nuts? I guess the doctors were right. I’m a nut. :looney: not like I didn’t know that already. only 80 gb? Get on that external drive train!!! Don’t make me come over there!!! I just can’t seem to toss anything that I download or scan into my computers. sooner or later I’ll come back to it so I keep everything. as far as games go, I’m still working on shooters right now. in particular, one called E.S.P.Ra De. Freaking bullets everywhere and you have to dodge them all and somehow fire back. I’ll get back to CvS2 sometime later.

PHAE!

Hardly. I don’t even have that much space on all my HD’s combined anymore to house my porn collection… after you break the 1TB mark you gotta start having spindles of DVD’s/CD’s around.

I dunno if its totally accepted. I don’t browse FGD much, but it seems like there was some sort of offline vs online civil war brewing.

With arcades quickly becoming a dinosaur of the past, online may have to become the norm if you want to challenge someone in a game. I believe s-kill or someone said once that there are better ways around lag, but most developers just haven’t put the time or effort into fixing it. I guess the Cannons have answered the call themselves with GGPO.

It’s like how we’re also shifting away from arcade standard, to home standard. Not necessarily because we want to, but because we have no other choice.

I think I’ll try that out when the PC I’m using at home (the one that replaces this one) isn’t an ancient POS.

Til then, I’ll keep on with the arcades even if I have to go to the cities 1-2 hours away to do so.

Yeah, that’s kind of where I was bringing it up on. I just thought it was kind of weird, it used to just be completely one sided.

Here’s that thread for anyone that mightve missed it: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=133394

I made a couple posts in there myself.

Yeah you’re right on that. When I used to play online, i would get people to play in private servers cause that was the best way to go about it that i knew of at the time. I wonder how GGPO is, cause there’s nothing but praise about it right now. Be cool if a3 makes it’s way to it.

Ha, it might get to that point you’re talking about, where online might be the only thing left to set up offline events. Hopefully technology will make it so playing online actually becomes more viable or relevant. Cause it IS easier, and convenient, no matter how you slice it.

Personally i hate online gaming…

Too many cheaters and it just don’t feel the same crushing someone next to you…

Just to see the emotion of just complete disgust and silence can’t be beaten…

Combine that with shit talklin and you jused crushed a spirt…

with that being said online can only be good when you play against someone you know…

It’s supposed to be out by the end of the summer. But, I think they’re gonna push it back. I haven’t been keeping up with the news. All I know is that there are rumors about online play. It may not be actual online play at all. Probably downloadable content like T5DR on the PSP with the downloadable ghosts and whatnot.

It’s like your private server, but much much better. No input lag at all with my converter. The lag exists in the game itself. But, when it’s lagless it’s VERY good. Everything works for me online. Tick throws and whatnot. Here’s hoping ST gets on that shit soon. You’ll love it. A3 will be a lot better, too.

A2 CCs come out flawlessly on GGPO. Like butter.

It’s only becoming a LOT more acceptible due to GGPO. You have your Kaillera scrubs that want to stir up shit, but they don’t play on GGPO for obvious reasons(i.e. lag tactics not being abusable on GGPO).

The netcoding on GGPO is too fucking ridiculous. It’s basically what Kaillera should have been by this point in time. And yeah, everyone should do both. If you’re not attending a tourney, get in some games online to level up a bit and vice versa.

lol @ you not wanting to work at all. The countdown to Operation: Free Slide '08 is nearing it’s end(I hope).

As for me, it’s time to start prepping hardcore for EVO World. I have to get good in CvS2 by August. Wish me luck. I added the following characters to my ST character selection:

Boxer
O.Sagat
Chun
Ryu

Next up is Sim.

It needs to hurry up. Damn.

Nice it’s better? Oh yeh tick throws are very nice in A2, especially when playing Guy, sometimes that’s all he’s got in that game.

Agreed.

So? is that so wrong?

And yeah, OPN FREE SLIDE 08 is in gear.
Based on some recent circumstances though, I wish it was right now this instant. But I have no choice but to wait it out.

Why so many characters?

I just play Chun in ST. The O.Sagat and Sim matches are really tough though.
I do use a lil Guile/Ken/Ryu though, but just some shenanigans.

By your selection, you might aswell put Vega in there too

True. We all look back fondly on the arcades, but the truth is that they weren’t perfect. They were cramped and smelly. It meant long hours standing on your feet. Broken controls and owners who were slow to fix them. Machine ate your quarter. Having to get there, back, and depend on the arcades schedule. Etc.

Having good online play would let people play each other no matter where they are. You could always find good comp when you wanted it, how you wanted it. No more standing around for hours. Play on your specific pad or stick or whatever you like.

The biggest drawback of online is the atmosphere - which was the thing arcades excelled at. Standing around with a group of guys who had a similar interest. Pulling off an awesome combo, or comeback win, and knowing there was a crowd to witness it. Watching a more skilled player show you how it’s done. The atmosphere was awesome, but with arcades dying anyway, it’s just something that can’t be helped.

Everything is (slowly) shifting to consoles anyway - net play is just the next step from there.

When I first came to Japan, I developed the one-character mindset. I kind of had to - all these guys were bringing A-game, and I couldn’t bring anything less.

I think though its good to play as other characters. Add some variety to your arsenal - if your rushdown character isn’t working, then switch up to your defensive char. Also, I think that there’s no better way to know how a character works than to actually use them - helps when you’re fighting against said character if you how the player is thinking.

You know what, I think this can actually apply to other aspects of everyday living, too. Stuff is just not going to be the same as it was. Is it better? I can’t even tell anymore, cause sometimes convenience outweighs many things.

To add on to what you’re saying about the arcade atmosphere; playing in a friend’s basement or something similar to that is the same way. I mean as far as the pos/neg points you brought up about arcade play. One thing is that say Friend A is sick and can’t come out to play or come over to play or whatever, if online play was made to a great standard then you could still get those games in with Friend A now, even though he’s too ill to leave his home that day.

But to continue on to what I was saying about how it can actually apply to other parts of living besides gaming. I mean, one of the best aspects of arcade play etc. was the social atmosphere, can’t really top that. Now days though, people don’t even go out to meet people, they meet them over myspace or facebook or whatever and then go from there. Who are we to say that going out to meet someone or meeting them on the internet is better than the other? It’s another thing where convenience makes an appearance.

Take it to another category, like education. People can take college courses and actually get a degree online. I see a big positive with something like this now(before, i didn’t), cause now you can bypass some social hierarchy and racial biases, due to the anonymity of schooling online. But just like with gaming, there’s the opportunity for cheaters to be really successful cause it’s hard for people to catch them.

All in all though, stuff like this is kind of one of those things that’s difficult for people to accept, cause maybe they’re used to one way and can’t handle the other, or nostalgia takes place or maybe the opposite of that.

I’m starting to think that nowdays it’s getting to the point where both need to coexist no matter what though, in order for both to thrive. I don’t really see one making the other obsolete now, and technology has also made it so you can’t live without stuff we didn’t have before. Look at cell phones, can’t really function properly with today’s standards without them now? They’ve become far to important now.

I guess bottom line is, in today’s standards, the internet/online is a complement, especially in today’s standards. In the end though, if you neglect real life you’ve got or will have a problem, shit is foundation. <- kind of funny how all of that lead to an already known bottom line. Oh well.

Couldn’t agree more.
For me though, I just have my main primary that i try to handle any and everything with. But when you hit that glass ceiling you need that other character that can handle those problems.

Speaking of that though, I remember there was always that guy that always had a problem with someone picking the same character over and over again.
