I sort of realized its my fate to rank 2nd place in SRK BP’s. So I’m taking the year off. Don’t really have the time anyway.
I think it’s a good idea for SRK to have some sort of lounge thread. When TOL works, it works well. Stuff you want to post about, but doesn’t really make for its own thread. And other people can jump in and continue the conversation and what not.
The big problem with TOL is that some people tend to think of it as a personal spam thread, and just post junk. And then Kimjong using it as his PUA LJ. And when you have enough users constantly posting irrevalent one-liners, then it becomes crap-heavy.
I would love to see a good lounge thread here on SRK, but it just depends on the people who post in it, and how mods will deal with spam posts.
heh. good thing most of the posters don’t know about the late night thread huh? :tup: this is probably as good a lounge thread as you’ll get and mainly because most of the “tards” don’t know about it or stay up long enough to reach it. that’s a good thing.

I was just thinking about our beloved L8 night thread the other night.
I had actually went back a good bit of pages for it, but didn’t see it.
I just bought a new car: the first car I’ve ever bought by myself. It’s a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. It looks pretty nice, and I am happy with it. I have free XM radio for three months, which I’m digging too.
How is everyone else doing?
:Edit: Oh and I go on a carrier det Friday. One of our jets is going out to the USS Truman and a handful of us are going with it. We are going to “trap” on the boat and come back in to Norfolk on it.
^Grats on the new car. My dad had an Elantra, 99/00-ish. You’ll never hear me speak badly of one - I crashed my dad’s into a tree, went airborne, flipped over a few times, then landed upside down. The car kept me alive.* So, I’ll always be a Hyundai Elantra fan in some way until I die. …Of course, I don’t recommend trying this for yourself.
*Either the car, or the hand of God came down and held me as the car crashed.
I’m open to suggestions for how it should be handled.
^I remember in the early days of the Girl Thread, Koop laid down his specific guidelines for what he wanted from the thread. At one point, he purged a bunch of Kimjong’s posts, and warned him to cut the LJ nonsense or he’d be banned.
The difficult thing with TOL though, is being objective about which posts are spam and which aren’t. I might make a one-line post about Nightcrawler being broken in ROA, but that could actually start discussion about the game, the comics, the X-Men franchise, whatever. Whereas Kimjong might write a 1000 word post on his latest pickup, but as usual nobody in the thread cares. How do you make the judgement call on that kind of stuff? Not to mention stuff like CL and Retro’s internet basketball challenge. Ephidel bragging about his post count/rep. Silent Ness doing pushups. Which fast food restaurant TheSix is going to eat at tonight. Etc. Not to mention its more work for the mod that ends up getting stuck with that duty.
I originally wanted to say that there’s no rule against posting meaningless drivel, but I checked, and actually there are two. :razzy: I’m guessing it’s one of those more lax rules.
It would be cool if we could somehow draft the better TOL posters to come into this thread.
