Last Bronx.

I remember playing the demo on PC with my MS Sidewinder game pad. I’m pretty sure it was the first 3D fighter I ever saw running on a PC and it blew me away at the time. Neat -O dudes. Way to bring back them teenage memories for me.

Dude this game was beast. I had the PC version, maybe the fastest 3d fighter ever.

When I first played Last Bronx in the arcade I didn’t really appreciate the game as all I did was pick kurosawa (whom I still play to this day) and mash p (same with Zaimoku actually).

Then fast forward about 12 years later and I got hold of the sega ages game because I was curious about the game and to my suprise I throughly enjoyed it(ps2 is broke so I can’t play it anymore). It is one of the most original games that sega have come up with and yet they chose to not expand on it or develop the game further in anyway. It is certainly a hell of a lot more interesting (and a much better game) than Fighting Vipers that’s for sure.

Anyways, what makes this game interesting?

-Guard Cancelling

Has been done before in VF but not to this level. Almost any move in the game can be guard cancelled (until I looked at the faq I had not idea it worked with down attacks as well!). This level of g-cancelling allows for some really creative offense. Hell even the slow Zaimoku (hammer guy) can RTSD.

-Wall game

Well, kind of. You can juggle an opponent better against the wall and because the game moves on a 2-D plane, RTSD on a cornered opp becomes more potent.

It’s such a shame that Sega didn’t make a sequel because this game would have really benefitted from an expanded movelist, more characters, actual 3-D movement etc.

[edit] I forgot to mention that the music is really good as well

An old commercial for it.

^ What the heck did any of that have to do with Last Bronx?! lol:looney:

I’m guessing they wanted to differentiate it as a weapon based fighter rather than Hand to Hand.

The game intro was pretty awesome (see that it was posted in OP).

It would be nice to see this an XBLA release or something, but the Saturn is a nightmare to port from I hear.

When I picked up my Saturn in December and was looking at the games in the mom & pop shop I had to get Last Bronx, just for the title, was cracking me up

Game is surprisingly good, lots of hours of fun from this one

When I was eleven I thought it took place in the Bronx:confused:

I managed to get ahold of the Soundtrack for the game.

Is it okay if i link it ?
I’m unsure if they sell it anymore. I highly doubt it though.

If not PM me if you are interested in being pointed in the right direction.

I went digging in the closet and found my Sega Ages copy of the game. I just played through Arcade Mode just to get a feel of the game and I think I understand the game a lot more now than I ever had.

Last Bronx is FUCKING RUTHLESS. If you even think about making a mistake, the game will make you regret it. I’ll say this now, Soul Calibur this isn’t. Without this game having a sidestep and the Roll being all but useless, you really have to pick your spots and be psychic all at the same time.

You’re pretty much a walking hitbox waiting for the rape. And on top of that, the throws come out instant if they connect and you look like a reaching dumbass if you miss and you can be thrown if you whiff a throw, which was kind of weird.

I haven’t played enough of the game to start tiering it but it seems like it doesn’t skewer as much but it’s hard to pick Top Tier because the matchups tend to balance because every character has something nasty they can do. All you can really do is know your character’s range and work that shit. I’m gonna dig deeper into this one just for fun.

Is anyone still interested in this game?
I have the PC version and I’ve been playing it for years. I found out quite a lot about the game, so much in fact that I can beat hardest mode without too much trouble. I’ve desperately wanted to play it with someone. Does anybody know if it’s possible to play online with hamachi?
Please let me know!
