Lag tactics and how to deal with them

I find this thread extremely entertaining.

I like what I see.

louis is an undefeated monster, no one can stand up to his power.

Hate fight Urien online, glad to read i’m not alone.

What exactly is the deal about online Urien? All the crappy Uriens I faced during my “test” of ranked were using SA2, spammed sweeps, mk or hk tackles and predictable full screen ex tackles, knee drops or tried the age old flowchart of first shooting an lp sphere and then immidietly either mp or hp sphere. Never once do I remember seeing normals like mp, hp, c.mk, etc. except if it was an accident or exectution failure relating to the above stuff, no headbutts, and always mash throw or either some ex move on wakeup. Sure, I can understand that the with general shittyness of 3so online play can cause frustration, but if your isp isn’t fisherprice and you stick to yellow-green connections, these kinds of Uriens won’t be a problem to anybody who can do something else except stomps with Alex. So please, enlighten me.

Uriens can use online hiccups(lag, input delay, “teleporting”) to their advantage for Tackles and Aegis setups.

Urien’s dash online is basically a teleport

Renic put it best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=HyGCP8Akg98#t=59s

Careful dude, Aku will use your example to show that online doesn’t change strategy…

Louiscipher either has bad memory or changed his words around on purpose to take a weak little jab at me.

Now, I will admit that the only time I’ve ever played through super bad ping was on pre-Supercade 2DF. I’ve never played any game of online OE, neither have I played anyone with really high ping on GGPO(I had a good connection in Japan and only played against them). I had to deal with monitor delay and occasional lag on GGPO, but never to the extremes that I’ve seen on OE. I’ll admit I’ve experienced “teleports”, but never to the extreme that I couldn’t tell that what they did was a dash. This is why I said “the mechanics don’t change but tactics/strategies do”.

Other than that, my gripes with GGPO were mostly the same as Renic’s. I gave it up after a few weeks of playing because said occasional lag and monitor delay crippling my roster selection, not to mention throwing hitconfirms out the window and being forced to guess more, were too much for me to bear at that point(not to mention it fucked with my arcade timing for a good while).

nods affirmingly

Fact of the matter is pretty much anything that is quick or marginally hard to punish offline will become godlike online. This goes for any fighter, not just 3s. There is no cure or answer for that beyond anticipation.

Offline play = Reactions
Online play = Anticipation

That’s the reason why online makes such bad habits. You should only play by reaction not by anticipation. If you played by reaction when ken does cr lk and you block you should be able to see if he will walk up and throw or walk up and cr lk x2 into super. Can’t do that online. You guess block or guess throw.

Anticipation = guessing. Online=guessing. Guessing=bad player. Alot of things that you could normally react to offline are 50/50’s online and alot of things that are normally 50/50 turn into 100’s because you can’t stop them.

I’m going to address this because frankly I’m pissed at 3SOE being dog shit. I’m pissed that some people claim to love 3S and will defend this dog shit. I’m pissed that if you’re into 3S than you’re stuck talking about it on SRK because there’s no other 3S communities online and you have to put up with usual SRK trolling. So I’ll reply very honestly, because I stopped caring how I’m perceived on SRK. I could respond in a polite, well-informed and helpful manner, but nope, some guy (mostly you, Tebbo, or some other troll like Womble) will read it and immediately try to discredit me. I would PM you, but I want this to be public.

Let me state a few things here, even though this probably isn’t the right forum and that would be the 3SOE general thread, but this would seem an appropriate place to respond.

I love 3S. It to me is the perfect fighter, Chun Li bullshit aside but I do pretty all things considered against her. I come to the 3S SRK subsection because -as stated above- there sadly is no solid 3S online community. Gamefaqs is… yeah. And Eventhubs is not much better. And I come here because I’m always looking for new info, or try to figure out something. I come back more frequently to see if there’s any more horrible things discovered in 3SOE and once again, patch notes because it seems like almost every day something is discovered and we’re not just ranting -such as EX inputs dropping-.

Those are my reasons for coming here and I think I’ve made myself crystal clear.

People don’t act like you, Metric, or Tebbo, or whoever in other communities or other message boards for that matter. I’ve been on film boards (aside from IMDB) and people don’t act like this. For example; I post somewhere how much I love the Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times and how I enjoy this and that and the other. 9.9 times out of 10, some dude is not going to write and tell me how wrong I am for liking this film and insult me. I hope you have enough intelligence to understand that. And this is why I refer to this place as 4chan as much as I do. Because people don’t care about what they’re posting, how they come off, and show some respect to another intelligent human being.

Have I trolled? Yes. But only when the topic has already been de-railed, or it’s a Dander post, or someone is saying patently wrong. To say that 3SOE is a good port and this is acceptable is utterly insulting. It’s like say A Clockwork Orange has finally come out on DVD, but it’s the cut R version and it’s unlikely to be released uncut on DVD. Or you could apply this argument to the original Star Wars films. You know where I’m going with this. It is not acceptable. End of story.

To address something specific that you said: Is using Viscant as an example of an online warrior a bad example? Maybe. I wanted to use someone different than say Wolfkrone. My point -and I thought I made it clear enough but once again, you wanted to find something to discredit me- was that one can learn from playing online, and sometimes this is the only choice for a majority of people who give a fuck about the game. Even if you disagree with my example, you could still easily understand what I’m saying, there is no need to try and take me down a peg for no reason at all and for that I called you a cunt.

Tebbo of all people has complained that the attitude on SRK 3S is what drove away all the top players who would sometimes visit. Then surely acting abrasively to new people or just anyone that thinks slightly different than you is not helpful either. Picking apart everything someone say’s and seemingly visiting every post they’ve made and again, picking them apart is not going to help. Let’s say for example that Pyrolee shows up and the discussion is Chun and how he hates the character, I’m not going to tell him he’s wrong, I’m going to give my posts context and go over my experiences in the matchup and maybe learn something from him. I’m not going to be an asshole like you guys and say ‘Deal with it’ and be dismissive about the whole thing. And here’s an idea; if you don’t like the 3S community on SRK, why don’t you do something about it instead of trolling? Why not form a new 3S site and forum? Right now there’s 3 sites, two of which are hopelessly incomplete due to real life issues, and Renic’s doesn’t seem to get a lot in traffic and offer much more than his blog or the random YT video. Surely, if you all claim to be good at 3S and know so and so people, one would think you guys could put something together…

I think a small number of you have some mental problems. Particular Tebbo and Metric. I’ll say this again and you could think whatever you want; I had a decent set with Metric on GGPO, we went back and fourth in wins, I asked him to use Chun so I could get better at the matchup, he starts streaking me, and I point out that it’s hard to tech throws online and he freaked out and still acts like I said the worst thing in the world and every chance he gets he will take to insult me. That’s pretty psychotic, like Chris Chan levels of psychotic. If I play someone who’s bad at 3S on GGPO and playing like it’s SF4, I may trash talk and say ‘go back to SF4’ but you know what? I let it go. I don’t stalk the dude or any weird shit. I don’t know what Tebbo’s deal is. I honestly couldn’t tell you. Sometimes he comes off as a normal human being, and other times not so much.

Please, I’m not trying to derail, I brought that up just to hear what Aku thinks of that. I didn’t bring it up just to hear what joe blow has to say about it.

This isn’t a farewell post but I wanted to make my point clear, and I’m frankly just sick of everything. 3SOE killed the community.

I actually ctrl+f’d my name.

The 3S community already exists and it isn’t found here on SRK. Anyone who is at all involved with that community doesn’t really care much about SRK. You can be the new-school leader if you want to-- you seem to want to.

In my naivety I thought helping people might grow the game. How stupid of me. People don’t post wanting guidance on how to improve. They just want to be told what to do to win.

The people who are either good or improving in the game don’t actively post much because there’s no point. It’s the same with every other game on SRK also. assuming viscant still posts he’s one of very few top players in any game who care about SRK to actively post and discuss things.

You get to a point and realize people aren’t interested in improving.
I can only repeat myself about practicing normals and spacing so many times before I just really do not give a fuck anymore.

People are not interested in putting in the required time to become a good player in 3S. Why bother? No competition really, no money involved, can’t play on proper setups (in most places), difficult to catch up to players who have been playing for 5+ years. If you do actually find the game and really love it you’ll use SRK to find people nearby to play with and improve with. Anything else is just a waste of time.

Know what? Go fuck your community. The majority of people involved are horrible and shallow human beings.

 Alright dude. Alright.

You’ve called me an “Asian snob” quite a few times before, and you claim that my actions and words are based on some silly racial stereotype and try to enforce it with an old Japanese war crime.

You’re the only person to have ever brought up my race.

In a negative light.

And you’re the one calling ME a racist.

Also, I’m Korean.

I stand corrected and you have my apologies.

I still regard you as a snob however.

Just to set things straight, Viscant has a lot of history in the fighting game scene. Say what you want about him regarding 3rd Strike(because he’s said plenty as well), but it’s hard not to recognize him for his own accomplishments; not just tourney wins but also being one of the driving forces behind making the Marvel games competitive in the US. That is why I found it really weird to have him of all people be known as an “online warrior”. I mean yeah, I do know what you’re talking about when you said he’s ranked #1 online on MvC3. It was just a weird example is all, and I would’ve accepted someone like Wolfkrone or whoever else without any complaints.

Also, I don’t disagree with everything you say. It’s true, online is the only way for some people to learn the game and have some type of competition. And I encourage people to play online to get a feel for the basics. It’s just there will come a point where they need to graduate from that and go to offline events. They’re gonna have to try, if they seriously want to get better at this game and/or support the community.

Hint use a hex editor for the message(too lazy to put in binary).
