I knew it! Goddamit, I KNEW it!! points at ps3 copy You bargain-priced sonofabeesh!!
Yeah, they need to have Tekken 6:BR. This thread is filled with niggas acting like SF4 is the top game in japan when it has never been.
I’m sure sponsorship plays a role, but I don’t think its the sole reason a game is put on the lineup.
Than why else was Shit Basara X at the tournament this year?
It was put there by a outcry from the fighting game community and its competitive merits?
I don’t think it’s that unreasonable to think some games would need more sway from sponsors than others.
Why do companies choose such expensive equipment and technologies for their newer arcade titles when they know the scene is dying? It doesn’t make sense.
^^ Simple, push out the smaller arcades so the large corporate-owned arcades will get all the business.
Sponsorship only plays a role for some games, a minority of games. Namco certainly does not need to sponsor Arcadia to get T6BR into SBO. Same with Sega and VF5FS, Capcom and 3S, and most of the rest of the games that were at SBO2010. Yes, SBX was most likely included because Capcom made an effort to promote the big three SF games (ST, 3S, SFIV) for Tougeki. But most games that are at SBO are the popular ones with large scenes so it only makes sense for Arcadia to include them. There are so many games being played in 2010 in arcades that Arcadia had to expand SBO.
Anyone saying that 3S was included because Capcom bought its way in simply has no idea. The SBO committee loves 3S, it is the only game that has been at SBO every year unchanged. Not only that but 3S usually has some of the best moments at SBO every year so the demand is usually high from competitive players to see it played again. Lastly 3S is having a major renaissance in Japan with events like Danisen and Kuroda Kumite battles every week bringing in high interest.
3S is to SBO like Superman is to the Super Friends: indispensable.
Because major arcade companies (100Yen) want to drive independent arcades (50Yen) out of business. Expensive boards, expensive cabinets, ruthless distribution systems, and other controlling mechanisms on costs, will rapidly wipe out the smaller arcades leaving only major companies around. And once it is only major arcades they can price fix per-play costs at 100Yen (which has happened in the past). And for the remaining smaller arcades who survive, that still try to charge 50Yen, the major companies can gouge them with new distribution models or absurdly high prices for hardware until they die.
Going by Arcadia’s fairytale data maybe you might think that T6BR has been #1 forever, but SFIV was the most popular arcade game for months following its debut. Just because Arcadia’s ridiculous sample biasing indicates that SFIV was never #1 means almost nothing. At SBO2009 the entire auditorium practically cleared out after SFIV. There were not nearly as many spectators for other games. I still don’t quite understand how Arcadia gets its data for game popularity but everyone I know in Japan said that SFIV was dominating for months on end when it came out.
Questionnaire so people can say they like AH3 as a joke. It’s like voting for Sanjaya that one season of American Idol.
My point was who asked for SBX at all from the playerbase? The shittiness of the game aside, I didn’t know there was any active play for it and the decision to include it seemed completely a push from the company’s end.
While it is sad, I hope he has a new plan there.
Terrible news not just for 3S players, but for the fighting game scene. Game Newton may have started the Ranbat concept, but GVision made it popular. KSK has done more for the scenes than many others, and while he may get picked on a lot, he is definitely someone who has to be respected.
RIP Vision. I wish I could have visited at least once during my stay here.
Console events only?
I am very sad to see this happen. He was worked hard at keeping his arcade and has done a lot for the community at the arcade. Best of luck to KSK,hope things get better for him.
It isn’t. It is the same price.
Of course, operators now have the option getting “upgrade” kits which consist of a new HDD+dongle… which still costs around 60% of the price of a “full kit” (4 pcs) and ~$2000 more than the price of 2pcbs if you were to buy a “full kit” of 4pcbs and split them 2x2.
Guess you gotta milk a dying market for all it is worth…
