[KS2 Productions] NORCAL REGIONALS 2009 11/21 - 11/22

i rather see a cvs2 5on5 norcal vs socal random select drunk exhibition.

Marvel is dead lol, but I will take any MM =]

So does this make the chances of vanilla ST diminish? What about breakers? Breakers=Super serious. Cmon choi, I know you’ve had to play an SNK game and liked it

Hyper Fighting…I’m dead serious.

Doesn’t HDR have a vanilla ST mode…or is that all fucked up?

Real talk, Breakers Revenge where you at? I’ll make us run the USA finals at Jared’s one day

We can run them at NCR! Someone bring a laptop, I’ll bring two TE’s.

I can supply a laptop and stick.

PM me, dude.

Hype

Wait, so HD Remix is really being run on PS3 still? The only reason Evolution did that is because they happened to have PS3s, even though it’s the worse choice. Bad to compound Evolution’s bad choice with further bad choices at more tournaments. We’ll try to get 360s next time for Evolution, btw.

The people who actually play SF HD Remix play on 360 (look at top Evo finishers for example, they are all 360 except Choi who I think doesn’t really play, not sure). PS3 has worse online play, worse scaling of sprites so it doesn’t look as good, delays in menus, a bug in button config that wastes lots of time at events. The button config problem added 1 or 2 hours to the team tournament at Evo (SweetJohnny V can confirm that, ha.) These factors contribute to no one playing it on PS3 (not to mention it having half the marketshare to begin with), so it’s bad to have an event on the version that isn’t actually used for practice. The last time I borrowed a PS3 stick, it didn’t even work properly on certain PS3s, but even without that issue it’s got like nothing going for it. Though I assume NCR is using the same PS3s Evolution has laying around and that’s the only reason.

If you say how many 360s you need, the community could probably come up with them.

I don’t quite like the fact that HDR is being run on PS3 either. I’ve encountered nothing but problems with this version everytime I’ve played it, even at tournaments.

Its a hassle, its a waste of time and overall it is not the tournament standard. I’m sure if you guys requested people to bring 360s you’d have MORE then enough systems. Pretty much every game that is on the PS3 that is at this tournament is also available on the 360.

PS3 is a pretty terrible system, and yes do actually own one. Hell, I’d bring two 360s with HDR if you asked me to. I’m primarily concerned with HDR and as of now I don’t think really think PS3 is the way to go for that game. Almost the entire HDR playerbase is on 360, help us all out!

I’ll be there! And thanks for changing your mind on Remix John.

Sirlin, FWIW, there are button config issues on 360 as well. But the experience is much better on 360.

I’ll happily supply my 360 for the Remix tournament as would SweetJohnnyV I’m guessing. Also if you need help with recording equipment we can help with that too.

NCR is using all PS3s due to several reasons. Main ones being:

  1. SRK donated official EVO equipment for use at NCR which happen to be PS3s.
  2. This made it easier to secure sponsorship from Namco for the TK6 tournament. TK6 is currently not available on 360.
  3. Made sense logistically. All the consoles, monitors, and games basically come from a single source. Asking multiple members of the community to each bring in personal systems makes things difficult to manage and increases our liability. It also adds more confusion for players as they must prepare for multiple standards. Initially there was discussion of having mixed PS3/360s to accommodate everyone but this introduces new problems.

Sticking to PS3s allows us to run SF4, Remix, and TK6 all on 1 format. Hence we chose to go with that option.

I don’t see how any of that is relevant if players bring the 360’s for you. Evo North did that and they had to turn away 360 consoles because too many people brought them. I doubt Tekken6 cares at all which system some other games are on.

It is easier to run everything on only ps3, yes, but at some point you have to give the players what they want, which includes running games on the best system for the game. Seems kind of not worth it to even go to a PS3 hd remix tournament, unfortunately, after all the troubles Evolution had with it, plus all the troubles Blicen reports from St.Louis tournaments trying that version. But luckily there is no real problem here because within like 30 minutes of my post there were already 4 360’s available to you. If you have the equipment, if Tekken6 doesn’t care about other games, and if the actual players of the games want it, I’d think you wouldn’t turn away the community’s help. Seems good all around when people pitch in like that. Perhaps you’ll reconsider.

Thanks EA Megaman, SweetJohnnyV, and Blicen for appearing almost instantly with help, ha.

Please dont associate yourself with Evolution. You may have “helped” out many many many moons ago, but you are no longer part of the Evo Staff.

You do not speak for Evo, or its affiliates.

Capcom sponsorship

:u: Ouch

Noticing that NCR got sponsorship by Namco, it got me wondering - was Capcom approached for sponsorship? Since they are only in San Mateo, it wouldn’t be too much trouble. If they declined, could anybody comment as to why they didn’t want to get involved?

minus the button config bug in HDR, i dont notice any other problem playing on PS3 for HDR offline play.

I’m looking forward to NCR this year and excited for the potential of having a vanilla ST side tourney or event as well. Good job Choi and co.

I have faith that this tourney will turn out awesome. It will be nice to see some competition going on for all of the games, but I’m guessing most people are going to enter SF4 or T6, the two games with the most hype come tourney time.

Korngo, hit me up again nigga!

Happy Belated Birthday Choi =D!

Mr. Wizard: that was harsh and kind of strange. Some beef I should know about? Anyway, take my statement as “the community will see what they can do about getting enough xbox’s next year.”

If you were referring to my statement about why Evolution used PS3 version last time for HD Remix, I was quoting what Tony Cannon told me when I asked him. He said there was no reason other than having PS3s on hand and if 360s had been on hand, then that would be used. If that statement is inaccurate, you could correct it.

Yes it’s a lot easier to run everything on 1 system. We also avoid any liability from theft/damage on borrowed personal systems. You mention extra time needed on menu configs as a drawback. Well extra time and resources will be needed to switch out our stations from PS3 to Xbox then back to PS3 again.

This also gives extra burden on other players that play more than just Remix as they must prepare 2 different controllers. This won’t affect you because you only play Xbox Remix but the majority of players there will be playing SF4 and other games.

Despite your statments about Xbox being superior to PS3, bottom line is that is your personal preference. Other players prefer PS3, other players do not notice the difference between the two. A compromise must be made between what is practical for the overall event and what all the players of various gaming interests actually want. Arguments for vanilla ST over Remix, Marvel, and Blaz Blue have all come up numerous times in this thread. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to accommodate everyone.

There also doesn’t seem to be clear cut proof that gameplay is any different from PS3 and Xbox. Hence it seems like a fair compromise to stick to the same standard as the rest of the event. But since you were one of the developers, maybe you can shed some insight into gameplay differences that would make the PS3 version not viable? If you can provide some proof, then it may be worth while to make the change to Xbox.

Also, you stated that it is not worth it to show up to a PS3 Remix tournament. Well, you have a choice to attend or not, no one is forcing you. I encourage you to organize your own event with Xbox systems that will be worth it to attend.
