[KS2 Productions] NORCAL REGIONALS 2009 11/21 - 11/22

Apparently someone didnt like my post so they deleted it. Will there be places where we can hook up a laptop?

Choi, ok. It’s true that even lost time from button config bug is offset by time of switching systems, as you said. And liability of using borrowed systems, while it hasn’t really been a problem at other tournaments I know of, it’s still a plus to avoid that issue entirely, sure.

Regarding SF4, I heard that its online play and (US) user base is bigger then PS3 also, but I don’t know for myself if that’s true. I only mention that because if that is true, it’s not that HD Remix would be the only game that would use xbox were the systems available. It would make sense for both games.

But anyway, you’ve considered things and made a decision. Ok, thanks for considering it.

Edit: oh I just noticed the line about it being “my personal preference.” The more laggy, buggy, disconnecty online has been widely reported (causing people to practice on the other platform). The button config bug is a concrete difference. The 2 second pause on every menu screen is minor, but a difference. And the top players playing the xbox version (for these reasons and others) also seems not really opinion-based by looking at the top 8 Evolution finishes. I only bother to point out these are not really opinions so that at future events we might try it another way.

Don’t forget TK6 that can only be run on PS3.

Anyway, there is a little over a month until NCR. Let’s stick to the PS3 standard for this time. Hopefully this gives enough time for players to prepare.

Thank you for your input. Next time around we’ll reconsider Xbox along with additional tournament games.

How does any of this besides the 2 seconds lost at the button config screen affect an offline tournament. Pretty much every Xbox player has come to terms with the PS3 tournament standard and bought sticks (or at least, a stick that is shared between a group of 2-3 people).

Not to put down the 360 in anyway, But why should choi have to switch just to avoid a 2 second pause? Not to mention alot of people have old mas sticks that need converters. I dunno if old ps1->USB converters work for the 360 but they work for the ps3. >.>

wtf you mean “blame norcal”?? nigga, we all norcal. if we were blaming “norcal” we would be blaming ourselves, right?

durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

marvel marvel marvel marvel

sf4 sf4 sf4 sf4

best games period.

Thanks for considering it. I’m just happy to hear that HDR will be one of the games at NCR. If, for some reason, you do end up changing your mind about using Xbox, then just let me know. I’d be happy to let you borrow mine for the event.

Yezzur. Well I cant really hate on marvel

3s??? :crybaby:

i dont even know if i am attending this tournament yet, but all i know is that everytime i go to svgl, theres usually at least 3-4 people on 3s and marvel, and… black rob playing the cpu on cvs2.

with dedicated online (ggpo, psn, xbl) and arcade communities still in existence for 3s and marvel, i would assume they would draw a reasonable amount of people.

all is insignificant in the face of sf4 though so who cares. :smokin:

Its unfortunate the PS3 is being used, hopefully tournaments will transition to 360 as the standard sometime in the near future (or they could start now)

Most players here locally actually have dual modded sticks due to the divide in player base, its pretty awkward to see PS3 stations being used and seeing the people on them using dual modded 360 sticks, thats just how things are around here. Some of the players here even have dual modded 360 sticks but don’t even own a PS3.

Also mystic, there are now converters that do PS2 -> 360 so that problem really isn’t an issue anymore.

Tekken 6 also comes out the same day on 360 as it does on PS3, but I assume since Namco is dealing with all of this they’re probably only giving you guys PS3 copies or something.

I can understand the whole liability issue with having people bring in their setups, but most tournaments are run this way anyway. I just always assumed it was something a lot of players have come to accept, getting enough setups definitely wouldn’t be an issue here either since you’d probably get more then you actually need if you asked for them.

I just find it frustrating to have to cater to the PS3 player at tournaments even though it seems an overwhelming amount of players play on 360. Also, HDR has always felt like its always played better on the 360 over the PS3 version but that could just be me getting butthurt about the fact that I don’t like the PS3 to begin with, or there is something very very wrong with the PS3 version of HDR.

Anyway, thats my two cents. My opinions sure as hell won’t change anything about the tournament format probably but thats okay, I’ll roll with a PS3 stick for this tournament but I definitely won’t be too happy playing HDR on PS3.

Dude its sunnyvale. We have to play on the ps3 :3

About sticks: There’s nothing strange about having a dual mod stick. It’s being half-assed serious about playing the game and keeping your own equipment straight. There’s an analogy about bowling balls somewhere in this.

For real. SF4 console release has been out for how long? We have how many people in the Bay willing to mod your stick for a reasonable price? Dual mod your shit already. You have at least a month left to get your shit straight for PS3. GOGOGO

My vote is for Xbox 360 for HDR as well

i agree with having it all on 1 console.

ncr staff definitely want to eliminate the risk of any hindrance that may occur with xbox 360 that could potentially ruin it for the tourney. take for example, someone volunteers to bring the xbox’s and a couple of them happen to have issues during the tourney. that forces ncr staff to choose whether to run the tourney slower, causing everyone to go home later, or to force participants to do a last minute chance back to ps3 causing it a problem for xbox biased participants who took the time to come out for xbox hdr only.

eliminating potentially bad situations > 2 second lag on menus/inferior online connectivity.

Dear IFC_John Choi,

Thanks for answering a lot of our questions concerning NCR. I understand you have multiple predicaments to address to make this tournament fun and exciting for everyone. Regardless of marvel or not, I understand its not easy to run a big tournament, therefore, efficiency was considered. Also, the game choices along with deducing as many consoles as possible make perfect sense.

Therefore, we shall all be thankful keystone is putting on NCR. It sounds like you are short staffed? Not sure but if so I wouldnt mind donating my time.

When I heard this was going to be on PS3s only I was like oh no, how am I going to play Tekken when I only have a 360 and a 360 stick.

Then I decided to dual mod my shit instead of cry about it.

And damn Mystic wtf did you post? Haha.

Dear IFC_JOHN CHOI aka daddy,

I wouldnt mind donating myself to the pretty ladies
