Korea Thread - SF, Chicken, and Beer

Here is another flyer that i made using some pics given to me by backtolifting. Let me know what you guys think. We also need to come up with some mottos/themes like “fight nights” “salty sundays” “holiday beat downs” I’m open for more.

Hey all, just dropping in to say hello. Did the whole ESL teacher thing and I just moved to Anseong three days ago. Guessing no one’s really close to me, but I figured I’d post up anyways. Probably be willing to travel and whatnot once I get a little more acquainted with my surroundings. Anyways, hope to meet up with some of you sometime soon!

I like that second flyer, even if it is just for SSF4. “Salty Sundays” is good. Or maybe “Sodium Sundays” if you want something slightly different.

the posters look good. I’m ready to get this started! I also like the satly sundays idea.

i really need to go to those fight night things at some point, been here 4 n hal fmonths and ive only been to a bunch of arcades.

so when is ultimate marvel coming out here? anyone got it? they sell games out where im at but i dunno if itll be here or not

Well I’m pretty sure you can get a hold of games pretty close to NA release dates, but you’d have to buy them online. But I guess it depends on where you are exactly. I know the shops that sell games around my area don’t really get games when they release (tbh I was surprised they had like black ops and medal of honor…I didn’t think they’d have “western” type fps). So i just hop on gmarket.

How about that for motivation? XD

also, Nov. is coming to an end soon,we should probably start getting a move on. If we’re still waiting on translations or something, maybe we can set a date to head downtown to try and start talking with the owner with or without…juuuust a suggestion.

As far as I know, we’re still looking to get it touch with the manager so we can run some tournies. Does anyone in the area (Daegu) know someone who could help us out with some translations? It also looks like we’ll be running this after the 13th. Playing with a fresh patch xD

Already done. I had a teacher friend of mine go in with me to the restaurant to speak to the owner. The meeting was a success, and the owner is on the bandwagon with the idea of having tournaments. We will have another meeting soon so that we can discuss how much of the pot he will get and other minor issues. My friend told me that you have to take it slow with koreans, so we will email him the two flyers that i did later this weekend. Once he gives us his input i will tailor it to his liking. I want him to feel like he is also a part of this, and not just providing the space. Stay tune for more to come =)

oh nice. well hopefully we can win this guy over.

So I am from Austin and visiting Korea for vacation… Where can I play SSF4AE… possibly with Japanese style arcade sticks and not the Korean peg things…?

If only the peg things exist, can someone point me to any arcade with SSF4 AE?

How long will you be here? And primarily what city will you be staying in? There is a nice big arcade in Busan and there are a few in Seoul as well as a Cafe ID which is like a gaming cafe with consoles and such.

O yeah sorry. So I will be staying in Seoul, but I am not sure which subway stop I will be at. I am visiting family from the 25th to the 30th, then I have to go to Yong-In to teach some English at an English camp for two weeks before flying back to Dallas.

There is an arcade at the Sinchon stop that is decent. Only one SF4 vs setup but they have other/older games. I haven’t been to Cafe ID yet as I live 4 hours from Seoul. It’s in Heungdae, I believe. Hopefullly someone more knowledgeable will come in and give you directions. This is the facebook for Cafe ID http://ko-kr.facebook.com/pages/Cafe-id/213263075399905

also you should try contacting Laugh directly on this site. He’s a pretty nice dude and I 'm sure he’d help you out if he isn’t busy.

I think that I have actually been to that one last winter around Dec 2010. At the time it only had vanilla, but not sure if it is the same on you are talking about… could be mistaken…

Does anyone know how to go to “Cafe Id”? I’m visiting (Seoul)South Korea for 3 weeks in one week, and want to play KoF13 at there. However, facebook link of Cafe Id is not working at the moment and search results do not show Cafe Id.

Can anyone please give me detailed directions to Cafe Id?
For example,

  1. name of subway station and number of the subway station exit.
  2. how long I should walk or etc from the subway station.
  3. landmarks.

Regards.

I’ve never been there myself so I can’t be of any help, sorry. The activity in this thread has really died down lately. Again, I encourage you to contact Laugh directly on this site, or anyone else you might know here that is in or has been to Korea.

I’m in Seoul until this wed. I might hit up cafe id if i get some time.

Right now, everyone’s playing KoF XIII there. Someone posted directions on how to get there on this thread, but I’m making my own how-to guide [w/ more recent pictures] this weekend. If you can wait til Monday [or if you get the info earlier], then we’re all set!

Things have definitely slowed down and now with all this talk about the north, I’m sure ppl are distracted. If train tickets weren’t so steep, I’d hit up CafeID like every weekend. But an up-to-date guide there would be awesome, since I may be heading up to Seoul sometime in January.
